How does your game fit the theme?
Environmental hazards in the form of gusting winds and lightning strikes become more dangerous as you progress.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
No. The music and some UI was sourced from outside. We did the rest, though.

Really enjoyed the strategy/deckbuilder combo. Cool use of the theme as well. Great work! Congrats and good luck!

Cool tactical battle game! One of the best games of the jam for me.

  • I like grid battle and also card games. Nice combination here.
  • Having all actions cost the same simplifies things and makes it easier to plan.
  • Being able to discard and redraw really helps.
  • Good variations of terrain that create different contexts for battle.
  • Neat that you can execute actions in any order for your team, and even interleave actions.
  • Would be good to show enemy HP somewhere.
  • Friendly fire is a nice feature that you need to plan around.
  • Some cards are clearly more powerful than others? Eg: Bulwark (4 defense) vs Shield (2 defense)
  • Nice range indicators on the cards for cell where ability can apply. (Side Slash, Shadow Whip, etc.)
  • How much does the defense go down each turn? Does it reduce by half?
  • Sometimes I felt that my characters would lose HP even with defense.
  • Upgrade system is cool. Allows you to nudge your characters into specific builds that complement each other. Melee, ranged etc.
  • Got to the Mage, but couldn't defeat him. Forgot to account for the winds, and was suddenly wondering why everyone shifted up!
  • The gameplay reminds me of Into the Breach with a square grid and team of warriors on either side. Of course, the card actions are new here, and add a lot of variety to the battle.
  • For reference, you may also want to look at Alina of the Arena for a mix of spatial battle with card abilities. But this game seems closer to Into the Breach, as (1) this is a team battle, Alina is solo, and (2) this game manages to keep the feeling of tactical grid battle intact, in Alina the focus is more on the cards and deck (like Slay the Spire).
  • There is a bit of learning curve to this game, but felt good when I got the hang of it and found myself clearing levels.

Overall this is a fun game with good gameplay. A great entry for the jam, and a lot of potential to take further. All the best!

The gameplay got stale after a while (lack of things that felt unique) but other than that the game was very good. The sprites were well done and the story was pretty fun. If I had to change one thing it would be the ability to upgrade cards to stack up damage/effects and give the player more choice behind their playstyle. The audio feedback behind actions ingame were good and the bgm was not obnoxious. UI is a bit of a challenge to comprehend but knowing how to read college level essays helped me. So the game was pretty great until...

Until this happened on the second level with thunderbolts...

We discovered the problem behind this, unfortunately our game has a memory leak! The game can render approximately 200k frames before reaching this point. It will be fixed as soon as we can publish updates to the game, but in the meantime, if you have a worse computer you can run the game on it will take longer to crash :D

Very balanced game, i love the art style, and the strategy needed, i really appreciate the fast mode, thanks for create a very good game!

amazing concept with both the combat and deckbuilding, i played for a really long time!

one minor thing is that i found kinda of hard to tell who turn it was between my characters, who'd start next turn, if I could go back between characters (like in bg3) etc

overall very fun game!

Thanks for playing!  Yeah, I forgot to add a bunch of stuff to the tutorial (one day I'll remember to add everything).  At any time during your turn you can click on your other character to switch to them (if they have energy left).

I enjoyed myself. The variety of card effects and need to strategize made it pretty fun. Overall I thought it was really well balanced.

Very interesting idea and mechanics, I'm bad at these types of game for sure!

A real cool game idk if the shield card works or not?? Cause I felt like it worked more on the enemy than on myself.

Overall it's a nice polished game already well done!

Developer(+1)

The guards and goblins have an attack that can go through block, but the UI isn't setup in a way that makes it easy to notice.  I'll be improving the tutorial as soon as I can.  Thanks for the feedback!

I liked the idea of using grapples to manipulate positions and enemies! In general it was really well built and fun to play. I did think the interface was just a little bit cluttered though - I think it would have benefitted from having some elements hide contextually, or maybe made subtler somehow. Overall a lovely and fun experience, and I loved the challenge too!

The game is fun. The diffuculty is well set. However, the third character had terrible cards.

Unfortunately, I ran into a bug. I got a 'Runtime error: memory access out of bounds' at the beginning of the level with the storm things (dialog mentioned moving away from something) when the decks where being shuffled or just right after it. In the browser console was the following message: 'Could not allocate memory: System out of memory!'. I did not copy the seed before playing, so I can't share it.

Developer

Thanks for sharing the error.

Very cool, unique, and comprehensive game. Many of the design choices were very cool, like the enemies could hit each other, and you could pull and push them into holes to kill them. The mechanics reward you for playing in a smart way, and I really liked that. The only negative thing I'd point out is the UI, which is a little hard to parse in my opinion. But in general I was very impressed by the game, good work!

Developer(+1)

We think we've come up with some ways to fix the UI.  Time will tell.  Thanks for the feedback!

Really impressive work in just one week. Even if a found it a bit challenging it's a nice game!

Submitted(+2)

It's impressive how complete this game is in such a short span of time. You have managed to make a full card system as well as character/positioning game in a week, great work!

Haven't played it enough, but the gameplay is promising and I'm sure people who like strategy are gonna love it

The difficulty did seem a bit hard at first, not everything was understandable right away since there is no tutorial, and I think the start of the game could benefit from it not being random

Also, the volume gets reset between each round, which wasn't really good for my ears haha

Developer(+1)

I think I'll make the first few levels linear tutorial and then open it up to randomness.  Good feedback Progzyy

Great game, i love the combination of turn based game with cards.

Nice work! Love me some tactics and deck building. The push mechanics and different attack shapes made for some interesting setups for attacks. The one issue I was having was that it felt like the block didn't protect me from any damage, but that might have just been due to rounding. Either way, the fun look and mechanics of the game really shine here.

Ah good to know.  I'm saving a few to play more of on my flight tomorrow - this is definitely one of them.

Developer

I don't think there's a bigger compliment

you did it again. good card game, i wish i didn’t have tech issues playing this but i think that’s more of a me thing than a game thing. good game, well done!

glad to see a deckbuilder in this jam; definitely one of my favourite genres, and this is a super interesting take on it; very impressive for a week timeframe! the gravity kills made the game a lot more fun, and i enjoyed the variety with interactions. awesome stuff!!
