Let's create an unusual organisms!

Developer

Awesome, good work!

(1 edit) (+2)

I present to you one of my latest creatures: Greed. On the left side of the picture you see a healthy Greed, unable to absorb any more nutrients but storing them inside of its body anyway. As a consequence, it is a normal occurrence for Greed to have misshapen body, deformed by the amount of undigested food stored within. Some of the little green fellas might even be alive in there.

Whenever Greed receives any damage, some of the nutrients are absorbed immediately and used to heal the wound, giving it great regenerative ability as long as its belly has any food in it.

Other creatures often get confused about Greed and won't see it as an enemy but rather as a source of food: instead of attacking it they would rather rub against it in hope to get some of the nutrients inside. Ironically, that usually means they are chewed to pieces and added to the Greed's food storage. However, sometimes a small creature makes its way inside while remaining alive, occupying one of the two stomachs (pic on the right). That creature then has an opportunity to feed on whatever Greed can't absorb and grow within like a parasite. Because of above-mentioned confused reaction, parasite creature will not attack Greed even if it grows some combat parts. That relationship, however, doesn't need to be parasitical: as the inner creature grows through the Greed's body, its combat parts can stick outwards and later used against enemies, giving Greed additional protection.

(+1)

Very interesting creature you have there! There seems to be one glaring issue, though: Its core is quite unprotected, and even though most species will fit into its stomachs just fine, having an Advena with its spikes stuck in there would be rather risky, no?

Seems that this creature (nicknamed by myself as Gluttony, akin to your creature's name) here has found a solution: Not only has it reduced its stomach count to 1, but it's also decked out with stunning-type eaters (presumably to attract more nutrients and neutralize enemy weapons) and inward-pointing claws (perhaps a primitive form of digestion for emergencies?). These creatures sure can produce the most interesting of results when left to their own devices...*

* Creature did not actually evolve into this form through natural means. This creature is made by yours truly. Credit goes to you for the idea and concept behind Greed.

Very unique! in the pic on the right i wish i was that little Buginis creature because... Friendship

(+1)

On the topic of unusual creatures, here's one of my more unorthodox creatures:

It's a living Poison Mine shotgun.

It operates by stockpiling Poison Mines within its "chamber", before spewing out all the mines at its target. The mines travel a surprisingly long distance, allowing this creature to attack at a range further than any species so far.

It has also covered itself with spikes as a deterrent, as it is rather fragile (a single structure connects the whole "chamber" to the core; deterrence is much needed!) for what it is.

Developer(+1)

Oh wow, these are absolutely amazing! Would love to see them in action :)

(+1)

As a matter of fact...

I converted Gluttony into a Mine Shotgun just to make this gif!

(+1)

Too bad mines don't do impact damage, only poison. I understand it's to make ranged weapons not too op but damn I wish that shotgun creature actually destroyed something on hit...

(1 edit) (+1)

Well, on a brighter note, see those spikeballs?

Let's just say that this shotgun creature doubles as a launcher, if one is cunning enough...

(+1)

Sailor. Did you know you can propel yourself forward by blowing your insides outwards? Neither did I, but apparently you can. (pic on the right is the process of self-propelling, I synchronized both dash and blow abilities by linking them to same key and the speed is spectacular).

Spikes would fit better with this one, but I only had pincers. And I like pincers, in case you didn't notice already.

(2 edits) (+1)

I have noticed this effect for quite awhile now (one of the first creatures I posted here makes use of that concept!). In the meanwhile, have an image of a creature I made a while back that is probably the most risky-looking thing to use this concept:

A basically exposed rear and only a 1-structure-zooid-thick support for the spiky wall of death? It's no wonder that this thing once tore itself in half from the sheer force generated by the pushers and a single enemy spike clipping through the wall! Thankfully, it has only done this once, and that aside, the wall of spikes make very short work of whatever unfortunate creature lies in its path.

On a side note: you're not the only one around here who likes the Claws/Pincers. They are honestly quite overpowered! Oh well, makes it all the more easier to get to Free Roam!

(+1)

Yes, pincers work nicely in close combat when placed together, I guess they deal more damage for that exact reason - you have to go into close combat to use them, alternatively to most other weapons. So it's damage is quite reasonable. First rule of pincers club - never say they are op *cough-cough*

(+1)

Ooh, gotcha. They'll need balancing eventually anyway *cough*

Yea, claws do have their downsides that balance it out; mainly being the fact that they're strictly close-range, which means any creature that's able to out-maneuver and out-range you will be more than just a "little annoyance".

Developer(+2)

Haha! Fun fact - internally we refer to this bug/feature as "Don Quixotting".

(1 edit) (+1)

Here's another unusual creature I made:

This creature has made a very questionable decision during evolution: Inward-pointing Eater zooids? Ones that fire Mines, no less?! This rather strange adaptation allows it to uh...

...do whatever this is supposed to achieve (a minefield, maybe? But...why in this fashion?!).

A lot of further research will need to be done on this peculiar specimen...

Further Research Notes:

1. It definitely seems that this creature is utilizing this strange adaptation as a way of distributing mines unevenly, or perhaps it's something to do with the way it's "storing" the mines within itself...?

2. A breakthrough was discovered: By filling up its form with Poison Mines, enemies will most likely keep away from this creature. Behaviour of enemy creatures recorded point to this mechanism being able to effectively cause attackers to cease all actions and flee...

3. Man, if only I could test this thing against the Advena Boss! That thing was already freaked out by poison mines!

(+1)

This is a new highly organized organism with a number of improvements!  This small coelenterate is extremely tenacious and has a number of beneficial properties such as:
The endoderm is densely covered with spines that protect against most physical attacks.
The structure of the oral ring allows food reserves to be stored for a long time and, most importantly, not to be lost during movement.
The food reserve serves as a bait, entrapping unlucky organisms directly into the beak, one bite of which with no difficulty will rip even a great enemy!
A secure rotary system allows you to quickly rotate in place.

(+1)

Wow, "Greed" sure has evolved a lot!

I've also noticed something you didn't mention: This new creature of yours has stunning eater zooids in its mouth to attract nutrients and to ensure that there's no escape!

(+1)

Do enemies absorb stored nutrients before you kill them? It seems that food storage is a bit too open to prevent nutrients from being stolen as you kill the enemy...

Hi, I wrote to you on 3rd of November

(+1)

(1 edit) (+1)

In case anyone wants a translation:

This new organism is no longer a new structure(?).
Oral devices are maximally simplified, in order to increase the internal cavity of the body.
The large body cavity is filled with nutrients for rapid recovery and masking (The "bait" effect).
The surface of the body is covered with leech zooids that are able to grasp and sever any unfortunate victim that attempts to flank it, all the while helping to regenerate its own health from draining said flankers.

(+2)

I've managed to refine the Don Quixotting method of hunting with this creature here:

Nicknamed "Sledge-Hammerhead", its streamlined body houses 4 Don Quixote-Engine units (each consisting of 3 pusher-type Eater zooids and several Structure zooids) and is lined with rattler-type Swimmer zooids (as a turning mechanism and for smaller movements) and stunner-type Eater zooids (to stun any flanking enemies and to increase energy regeneration due to absurd energy consumption of the 4 aforementioned "Engines"). Its namesake comes from the biological battering ram that shields its head --- a far cry from previous Charger-type creatures that I've made discovered. It is significantly larger than most other charger weapon types, and boasts a unique "spring cushion" design (cushioned by more spikes?!) that acts as a sort of "insurance" for the creature in the event the front of the weapon breaks off. So far, that event has never come to fruition, as the design is thick enough to support itself on its own. Any wondering opponent in this thing's path is sure to experience a painful predicament  --- provided they come out alive.

(+1)

Have you tested if 4 Don Quixote engines give more speed than 3? Or than fewer, larger ones? I'm not sure if it is reasonable to make it so big. Also, how did you stretch the first row slightly further from main zooid?

(+1)

I've yet to do further testing with said engines and how the number of engines affect speed, although that is on my to-do list.

As for the first row being ever-so-slightly further, that is the result of the soft-body handler glitching a little (normally extended connections like that are not possible, but would you know it, the building method for the engines can result in said glitch occurring) due to the symmetry of the creature (the devs did state that the handler hates symmetry).

(1 edit) (+1)

After a bit of testing, I've come to the conclusion that yes, the above creature does need that many engines. Even though its speed matches (or is slightly slower) than a smaller creature with only 2 small engines (pictured below), the greater number of pusher-type Eater zooids means that the engines are able to function for a much longer period of time (since each engine adds more energy regeneration with each Eater). The creature below can also achieve speeds equal-to-or-higher-than the above creature, but it can only do so for a much shorter period of time.

As such, it is actually recommended to build larger creatures if one wants to use the Don Quixotting method of movement, due to energy constraints and the fact that engine size/count negligibly affects the speed of the creature while Don Quixotting.

Also, as you can see, the slightly-larger-than-normal gap between zooids is present here as well. As I've said before, it emerges due to the building method for the engines seemingly screwing up the soft body handler so as to accommodate the pusher-type Eater zooids (which are slightly larger than structure zooids) in-between the structure zooids.

(2 edits) (+1)

Recently, there have been reports that the Big Bad of the "???" species adapting and evolving, so as to suit its sessile nature.

I've decided to capture one specimen and experiment on it (not to worry, there are a few instances of said "Big Bad", commonly referred to as a "Boss". How else does one always seem to encounter one right after C'thal?), however, the process of removing said specimen from the environment did require me to cut out all of the "enclosing" section of the specimen, leaving the "head".

After some tests in a tank with rival species and an automated feeder (i.e. Free Roam), the results were rather worrying...

...

Oh dear.

Here's a small summary of what transpired:

1. The "Head" slowly sprouted movement zooids after sitting still and receiving a lack of prey/nutrients.

2. After gathering enough nutrients and preying on any nearby siphonophores, it began to re-grow its signature enclosing wall of zooids. However, there are visible differences between the sessile variant:

     - The walls are not spaced as far apart as that of a sessile specimen.

     - The outer side of the walls are saturated with Movement and Eater zooids.

     - On the other hand, the inner side of the walls are lined with Leech and more Eater zooids.

     - There are no Spawner-type Eater zooids (distinguished from its Stunner counterpart by their dark-red colour) at all.

     - Finally, of course, the walls are not fully enclosed.

It continues to prey on whatever I can throw at it, as none of the siphonophores even dare to attack it. Unfortunate Advena specimens that accidentally brushed their spikes against it receive immediate retaliation by being torn into shreds by the many Leech zooids on the inner walls. On a side note, this thing can turn surprisingly fast!

In conclusion, the "???" species as a whole appears to have an absurd rate of adaptability, using whatever means necessary to survive if push comes to shove.

As for this monstrosity, I shall give it a fitting nickname:

The Herculean Executioner.

This guy is meant to hoard nutrients in it's gigantic jaws as bait for the trap, and whatever comes in gets chewed up painfully.

The creature doesn't care if any of his hoarded nutrients are stolen, because the smaller creature is still gonna die.

[THIS CONCEPT IS RELATED TO "Gluttony" IN MANY WAYS]
(1 edit)

and who needs Movement zooids when you can f*dolphin noise* Don Quixote your way to victory

the Advena Boss can be easily beaten from within the safezone by This guy.

i call it the Poison Ball.

(2 edits)

don't you hate it when you just came to the Free Roam mode, and you get killed by a

Merciless Motherf*dolphin noise*?

(+1)

It's been awhile.

After a short period of silence (and experimentation), I think I'm ready to showcase something newer.

Making "bullet hell" a reality in Sipho, The Maelstrom Marksman makes its debut.

A proper long-range fighter, any siphonophore worth their salt (and nutrients) would know to stay as far away as possible from this thing's front end.

Furthermore, it appears that this this has taken measures to ensure that flankers would get a nasty surprise: its sides are lined with poison mine emitters and a rather "shocking" armament, to say the least, allowing it to escape from aggressive melee-only attackers with ease. These zooids also happen to provide the creature with the energy it needs to power its weapons, since Sniper and Flak zooids are very energy-hungry.

The most curious thing to come from this specimen has got to be its Sniper zooids, as they are a completely new type of zooid that doesn't seem to belong to any of the 4 known species that live in the current ecosystem. Some older research notes suggest that this zooid is one among a few others that may have originated from a long-extinct species, likely surfacing in today's specimens due to genetic drift.

Looks like I've found my next area of interest...

More research needs to be done...

(8 edits)

Kinda copying the Greed and Gluttony creations, i present to you...

The Gulper!

It has Blowers to force prey down to the Digesters. (Claws).

because the Blowers are arranged in such a way that they all point towards the Digesters,

THIS Can happen!

it's basically a Stasis Field.
but when the Blowers turn on all those nutrients will be forced into the Digesters,
and then absorbed into the creature.

And when the blowers are ON, they double as a giant Don Quixote engine for Reversing.

THIS combination is usually rare in my playthroughs,
but now i have it i can make a f*dolphin noise* mine shotgun
.

or...

THIS GUY!

i call it "The Railgun"

This creature is programmed to charge up, and then launch a mine at godspeed.

I wish the mines actually destroy stuff on hit, given enough force.

The blowers also double as a giant Don Quixote-Engine module.

Speaking of mines, here comes...

the MINEFIELD GENERATOR

it attacks by filling itself up with mines, scaring any nearby creatures away.

Even though said creatures don't see the mines, they feel the mines' presence and stay away from them.

the Minefield Generator then spews out mines unevenly once the four chambers start to bloat and overfill.

When it's ready to perform a deadly attack that can kill an ENTIRE SERVER,

IT SPAMS THE SPACEBAR AND SENDS ALL THE MINES OUT IN RANDOM PATTERNS AT TRUE GODSPEED.

New creature:

The BITE (WARNING THIS IS THE OLD VERSION)

The flak cannons are supposed to make bite marks in enemies, and the claws are there for digestion.

This is the new version.

Added 2 more Buginis Movers on the back, and a door lined with spikes on the front.

What this door is suppose to do is, when an enemy steps inside the trap, i go into Edit mode and shut the door like this.

And when this happens, there's absolutely NO ESCAPE!

This thing has only two weakness.

Being Backstabbed by an Advena like this:

and,

Trying to eat a Wall_Of_Death-type enemy.

You don't want to see THIS THING swiftly eating your face off.

It has 3 don quixote engine modules, but i do plan on adding many more.

Imagine the Third Boss but with this as both of his arms. F*dolphin noise* horrifying!

Oh, and This guy as his head.

Even more horrifying! That boss would be impossible to destroy!

High chances that abomination would never be added into the game anyway.

After the blowers fire, pieces of other creatures can glitch into the back wall of the trap, or get thrown through the wall and out.

I'll create and publish a Mine Shotgun creature if i get the chance

Glitchy and powerful, here comes...

The MINE FIELD GENERATOR!

Not only does it generate minefields by overfilling itself, but also spills them out unevenly!

Also if you spam space while the 4 chambers are crammed with mines,

you can send them ALL out at GODSPEED, killing EVERYTHING

who undeleted all that

(+2)

A rather intriguing specimen has turned up:

This rather wide fellow was spotted roaming around, with plenty of enemy giblets strewn everywhere, so I decided to investigate a little further:

...the "Pusher" zooid seems to have gotten  rather huge boost to its strength.

Utilizing only 3 spikes and a whole load of pushers, this ruthless little fellow is able to launch its spikes absurdly far. Furthermore, due to the constant push provided by the "Pushers", the spikes will move rather erratically after being fully extended, acting as a pseudo-flail which decimates enemy zooids at a speed that's never been seen before.

The only feasible downside has got to be its size and speed: it lumbers along and turns at a rather low speed, potentially allowing enemies to out-run or ambush it, although none have been able to do it so far (this thing has adapted a "kill it before it has a chance to kill you" tactic that leaves none in its wake). Even so, by coating itself in "Pushers", it has sufficient energy to always keep them powered if need be, being able to use said "Pushers" as a force-field of sorts, rendering it untouchable to most enemy breeds.

I have heard of an "Ancient" zooid (similar to the Sniper zooid) capable of doing something similar without the need for "Pushers", I'll see if I can find any specimen that has such a thing...

(4 edits) (+1)

After doing some further exploration, I was unable to find a specimen with the Ancient zooid that I was looking for.

However...

I have managed to get a hold of the DNA sequence of the zooid from an old fossil!

Known as the Grabber, its name alludes to its function: It acts as a biological grappling hook!

With much excitement, I decided to have my first foray into gene-editing, and "injected" the sequencing into an existing specimen that had a remarkably similar attack mechanism to the previous siphonophore I showcased (i.e. the post just above this one), allowing it to grow the zooid.

The above image shows its initial form, moments after the extracted sequence was injected.

A few hours after the gene therapy (and after leaving the specimen in the Free-Roam area), this was what it looked like:

Not only has the specimen grown to a considerable size, but it decided to incorporate the "pusher spike launch" method onto the Grabbers as well!

The grappling distance of this thing is absurd:

Those Grabber hooks can easily reach outside of its field-of-view, allowing it to cause all sorts of chaos: Preventing enemies from escaping, dragging in unexpected obstacles (i.e. spike balls), etc.

Even without the use of the Grabbers, its large array of Pusher-launched Spikes create a large "area of death" around it, and its front-facing array is strong enough to chew up Frakir* specimens with ease!

Of course, this menace needs a nickname, and I've decided to keep it simple this time:

Whiplash.

* The following image shows an approximate reconstruction of a Frakir specimen, which was the result of a mutated Cra'than (the original Frakir is an Advena):

(1 edit) (+2)

After almost a month of silence, I am back, and with somewhat interesting discovery:

What you see above is a ravenous predator, sporting yet another type of "ancient zooid" - the Energy Leech. As its name implies, it is basically the Leech zooid, but it saps energy from opposing siphonophores, dealing next-to-no damage as a trade-off. Due to the similarities to the Leech, the Energy Leech also has the same "latching" effect that allows it to pull enemies that it is attached to closer. The above creature has exploited this by putting a row of spikes in front of its Energy Leeches - lowering the effective range of the Leeches, but making them into close-range grappling hooks that hold on to any enemies attempting to escape from the spikes.

The result is a creature capable of tearing through foes, while making sure that running isn't an option for the enemy. For good measure, the creature also evolved a row of Poison Squirters, in the event the enemy is tough enough to require the use of poison to soften it up.

Finally, the relatively compact size of this creature makes it rather agile - only being out-sped by creatures composed almost entirely of movers, or creatures that are reduced to their "core".

The only thing this predator possibly has to fear is its unfortunately fragile structure zooids being ravaged by ranged weapons...

/!\ ALERT /!\

A rogue specimen has escaped from 3RR0R (Real name classified)'s lab. It was last seen escaping the Free Roam area.

An image of the specimen's last known form is provided below.

WARNING: This specimen is HIGHLY AGGRESSIVE AND DANGEROUS. Do not attempt to dispose of it yourself.

Notes left by 3RR0R on the specimen:

This particular Buginis specimen was rather intelligent as opposed to its usual counterparts, so I've decided to enhance it using the same method I used for the specimen with Grabber DNA, this time with the Sniper zooid. Along with its pre-inherited Pusher, Squirter and Chitin zooids, this creature had the essentials necessary for a long-range pusher-enhanced armament. What I didn't expect, however, was how scarily cunning this thing was...

Despite its large form being supported by only five movement zooids, rendering it terribly slow, it made up for it by being extremely heavily-armed. Mine-producing zooids line almost the whole of this creature, with the exception of the front and back sides, which are lined with Pushers instead. The creature used the all-too-familiar "weapons rack" structure (seen used by another Buginis specimen in my previous post), with one row being used to house movement zooids instead. By placing the Pushers at the front of the rack, not only do the poison mines get flung out, but the range of all its weapons can be boosted using the pushers, allowing for a ridiculous amount of firepower to be concentrated on its front. The rear-end Pushers help somewhat compensate for the enormous pushing power of the front end, and allow this creature to perform a unique maneuver:  emitting mines while activating its pushers , the creature slowly rotates in circular manner, causing two streams of poison mines (which are flung out due to the Pushers) to seemingly emanate from the creature. As if the huge amount of Miner zooids weren't enough for area denial, this maneuver essentially makes the creature nigh-unapproachable, unless one intends to get heavily poisoned.

After laying waste to everything I could throw at it, it eventually managed to find a way to escape via a connection between the Free Roam area and the wild, which is usually a one-way route meant to allow me to see unsuspecting wild specimens (there is a proper exit, but it is usually sealed off when I'm around). This thing just blasted its way through the one-way flap like it was nothing! (Reminder to self: find a way to make a better one-way flap, because rubber ain't cutting it anymore)

My advice to all other fellow researchers: please do not let your creatures get anywhere near that thing. I will find a way to keep it contained once more, and I don't want it hurt, nor do I want it to hurt your specimens either. We all share a common goal after all: to create the most powerful specimen of all. However, as you can see, control over the specimens we make is still crucial, so that incidents like THIS won't happen(I don't want entire ecosystems destroyed just because something got loose)!

UPDATE: Alert is no longer in effect. Specimen retrieved.

After that near-disaster, I've managed to secure the specimen after having to breed a huge amount of small Cra'Thans (consisting of two Turbine zooids and a Sizzler) to incapacitate it. However, the one thing more shocked than the specimen has to be me, as it had rapidly adapted its form to solve some of its previous form's issues. Take a look at this:

As you can see, it has taken on circular form, evenly spreading its Miner and Pusher zooids, using the "instant mine field" tactic when it uses its rotational maneuver. The Sniper zooids now cover the four cardinal directions of the creature, with less zooids per direction, but more coverage overall. Furthermore, it seems to have done away with the Flak and Squirter zooids (perhaps it deemed them ineffective?).

To prevent this thing from breaking out again, and to study it better, I have placed it into a special isolation tank that simulates the Free Roam area (no linkages whatsoever this time!). That should keep it busy enough to study it!

In the meanwhile, I'll be looking for any other intriguing wild specimens, while patiently waiting for my new aquarium set to arrive...

...oh, the fun I'll have when it does...

...Oh, right, I forgot to give this one a nickname.

It shall be henceforth known as:

The Adaptive Annihilator.

(1 edit) (+1)

It's not unuuuuusual to have fun with anyone.

Im too lazy to edit my previous comment so,

Here's this thing!

The rhymingly named Poison Pistol!

This thing has claws on the outside just to deter enemies from randomly attacking it.

It's specialty is firing poison VERY VERY VERY far. However, a Poison Sniper of some sorts may launch poison FASTER and further then the P.P.

How it does this?

It has both the Blowers and Spitter eaters wired to the same key.

And it has to fire that one key on it's keyboard while it's reverseing.

Here's a meme. The red is the enemy creature. The blue is mine.

(+1)

About time I broke my silence here.

It's been awhile. Pardon me for my absence, for the Aquarium has given me the opportunity to create creatures unlike any I've done before. Here's a taste of what I've been up to:

After studying several sessile Cra'than specimens, I went ahead and attempted to create one of my own. The result was The Doomsayer (pictured above), a writhing mass of zooids tethered to the environment (seen here in a simulated Cra'than habitat). This thing originally started out as a core, looking like this before steadily anchoring itself:

As stated earlier, this is but a taste of what I've done. I've been busy creating and re-creating various creatures, and I hope to show more soon.

Developer(+2)

Holy hell this looks really cool. I imagine small Siphos running into that thing and getting eaten. Looks very organic and natural. Even makes me want to add these kind of "obstacles" to the game.

Is this topic dead? I hope not.

(1 edit) (+1)

G u e s s    w h a t ?

I am finally back, again. Long absences from here seem to be a recurring thing for me...

Anywho, let's get right into it.

Ever since the discovery of a new species (The nomadic Vagorus), I have been hard at work studying (read: conducting extensive research on) its various parts, as well as the morphology of typical specimens. What you see above is a theoretical* construction of a "Big Bad" from this new species. Boasting a very symmetrical form evocative of a modern quadcopter, the Drifting Destroyer is well-protected on all sides by its arrangements of Burstopod and Twister zooids. The combined effort of these zooids make this thing nigh-unapproachable:

It hurls vortexes and Burstopod bombs all around, making it difficult to assault it without getting stuck in a vortex with a couple of bombs. Due to its drifting nature, this specimen would theoretically prey only on small organisms. Hence, its method of attack is not well-suited for taking down siphonophores as-large-as or larger-than itself. On the flipside, its method works like a charm against small creatures; rendering them helpless with bomb-laced vortexes.

Finally, let's talk about its movement. This species' movement zooids are extremely versatile: it gives anything it is attached to a turning speed advantage that almost no other movement zooid can offer (a close second is the Turbine of the Cra'than). Despite it's symmetry, the above creature actually has a method of taking advantage of its speedy turning: It can help itself get unstuck from obstacles that it encounters while drifting in the currents!

Welp, that does it from me for now. Look forward to more stuff from me in the future. I'll give you a little hint as to what's coming: I've been tampering with a Frakir specimen in my downtime...

* No specimens of this species ever grew to a large size, possibly for ease of drifting. However, if a specimen ever achieved a large-yet-efficient form, this would most likely be the result. Said theoretical creature above was created using a combination of simulations and genetic manipulation.

(1 edit) (+1)

So...

I did say I was tampering with a Frakir specimen last I left off, no?

But before I dive into the juicy bits of this post, let me first showcase what led to the final result:

On first glance, this appears to be a typical Frakir specimen. However, if one looks closely, one will realize that the zooids have been "segregated" (each "arm" now has zooids strictly from the derivative species)!

This "Segregated Frakir" was originally an experiment to see how a Frakir specimen would perform if its zooids (particularly, its utility zooids) weren't shuffled around for synergies. The verdict? the above form can still perform decently, although the Saenus Beefuorus section lags behind the rest due to its utility zooids (the Pushers) not helping out in combat much.

Now, on to what I did next...

With the discovery of the Vagorus species, some of you may have seen this coming.  As to how I managed to do this, I simply injected the DNA sequences gathered from my prior research of various Vagorus specimens into a modified Frakir (the extended "arms" being the modification, made in anticipation of the formation of a new "arm"), and let it feast from the nutrient dispenser in the aquarium. Just as I predicted: It grew a brand new "arm", made up of Vagorus zooids. The result is a five-pointed Frakir, although improvements can be made to the enormous "void space" between the arms...

...it's still a good killing machine though.

I decided to call this freak-of-science Freikir, for the name is similar yet different from the one that started it all: Just like the specimen itself.

That's all for now, but before I go:

Next time we meet, let's just say that the Cra'than aren't the only ones with sessile specimens anymore...

Oh Vagorus, you surprise me...

As promised, here's the sessile Vagorus specimen I found...

Originally, I mistakenly thought this thing was a gigantic Drifter zooid stuck to a piece of the environment. However, upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a Vagorus specimen with a magnificent morphology!

Named the Quill (based on its similarity in appearance to its namesake), this strange specimen has given up its nomadic lifestyle for something akin to filter feeding:

As you can see in the above illustrated diagram, the Quill anchors itself on the various pieces of detritus found in the Vagorus nesting environment, usually on singular pieces of rock/dead organic matter that are nearby or in the way of a constant current of water. It lies there, waiting for unsuspecting prey to be swept by said current and into the feather-like feeding structure, where it uses a whole array of organic weapons to ensure quick incapacitation and absorption. Meanwhile, the "holdfast" of the creature is itself heavily armored and protected, preventing any sneaky creatures from trying to ambush and dislodge the Quill.

Overnight observation by automatic recording equipment of the specimen also reveals a stunning adaptation:

Apparently, when the Quill deems its current anchoring spot unsustainable (by, and I'm really making a huge assumption here, somehow measuring the amount of prey successfully caught and eaten relative to time), it can un-grow its holdfast and assume the above form (that I dubbed the "locomotive form"). As such, it is able to completely relocate itself should it desire to! However, the "locomotive form" has some glaring issues, particularly in anti-flanking (the rear has no defences now!).

Welp, that's all for now, I'll continue to keep y'all posted if I discover anything remarkable.

I'm back, and with an alarming discovery...

...oh boy.

A sessile Vagorus specimen that is purely Vagorian (unlike the Quill), this gargantuan mess of zooids appears to be hell-bent on assimilating any detritus nearby, utilizing bits of rock and whatnot as a sort of "support". Due to the amount of Twister zooids on it, it is capable of generating a sizable field of strong currents and vortexes around itself, while all its Burstopods shred any siphonophore caught in the maelstrom.

To make matters worse, this specimen also has a remarkable growth pattern: it will grow "tentacles" (technically, pseudopods) that attempt to reach any nearby matter. The "tentacles" will hang loosely by default(as seen from the bottom-center to bottom-right of the above image). However, upon sensing something nearby, the "tentacles" will rapidly grow to entangle its target. It will then proceed to do one of two things, based on the situation:

1. If it grapples a living siphonophore, it will grow as many Burstopods as possible and rapidly kill the entangled target.

2. If it grapples debris, it will grow Peapod zooids to fully encapsulate the debris, before growing Burstopod and Twister zooids to claim the debris as it own.

Interestingly, the core of this specimen is enmeshed in a net of Peapod zooids. I am not too sure of the purpose of this, but I have theorized that it is some primitive form of central nervous system(to allow the "tentacles" to respond accordingly), although this has yet to be confirmed.

This Vagorus specimen has been named "The Mass". It was deemed to be a threat to the Vagorus habitat when it was originally found in the wild, and was thus relocated to an isolation aquarium, where it will be fed and experimented with.

This is super cool, thank you for posting this <3

Well that's just terrifying!

Makes me think of attempting to build one of those with whatever species i can do it with.

Or even a roblox thing where you play as the beast...

But ROBLOX is 3d and Sipho is 2d...

Let's just hope for the best...

Drifter [ i think ]

Peapod

Burstopod

Also, a little typo i found.

what i see: this specimen also ha a remarkable growth pattern

what it's SUPPOSED to show: this specimen also has a remarkable growth pattern

Well, guess I must've been somewhat correct in my assessment of it having some sort of nervous system, as it seems that The Mass has gained sentience and helped me correct a typo!

...jokes aside, thanks for the correction, and I hope you liked my creation! I feel honored to have inspired you with it. And yes, your observations are correct - those were the respective zooids I was referring to. I refer to them by the names given in-game!

Since saved creatures now have codes, I might share some in the future, due to reception they're getting...

Back again...

...and I might have gone way too far with the science this time.

What you just saw was an attempt at modifying yet another Frakir specimen (Can't you tell that I have quite the fascination with this particular species?), which has resulted in...

...erm...

...do I even want to know?

All I know is that its feeding method is as fascinating as its size: it can somehow generate whirlpools (similar to those found in the wild that lead to deeper waters) to pull unsuspecting prey into one of its four, shall we say, "torture chambers". A rather intelligent tactic, due to the fact that its whirlpools are virtually indistinguishable from normal ones.

What's more, similar to normal Frakir specimens, this thing has a lair made of rocks, albeit with no proper entrance. This synergizes well with its whirlpool-generating tendencies, as the lair protects the rather vulnerable "exterior" while it sits there waiting for other siphonophores to take the bait.

I've lovingly (read: reluctantly) called it Inverse Frakir, since it somewhat resembles a Frakir turned sorta-inside-out (ie. rather than being a four-pointed "core" of an arena, this thing is the arena, kinda like Mhajh'tha).

...guess what?

Sorry for my long absence(again), I have been busy with life and the new zooid types discovered...

Presenting: The Hive Series

This set of three creatures were genetically engineered (read: created) by myself to be the toughest of living obstacles (Why? For testing purposes of course!). While all three have extremely limited movement capabilities, their sheer number of Swarmer zooids will make short work of any siphonophore that gets too close. The Swarmer zooids are a recent discovery, and are marvels in their own right - symbiotic hives? Who would've thought!

The three creatures are as follows:

Top Image: Hive Alpha - The first of the Hive Series. Rather simple structure, with nothing special. Capable of self-healing.

Middle Image: Hive Phi - The second of the Hive Series. Significantly more complex structure, so as to accommodate yet another recent discovery: Greaser zooids. The addition of Greaser zooids gives this creature a noticeable range advantage over its predecessor. However, there is a tradeoff: This particular creature is more fragile than the other two, lacking Nervefiber zooids and having many Peapod zooids as connecting zooids. Of the three, this creature moves and turns the fastest.

Bottom Image: Hive Omega - The third and final creature of the Hive Series. Absolutely massive creature that builds on the strengths of its predecessors: Peapod zooids are harder to reach and damage and have increased connectivity, drastically more Swarmer zooids to overpower enemies quickly, Sizzler zooids added for energy regeneration and for protection against creatures that get too close. Be wary when placing one of these into an aquarium.

This is taking new zooids to a another level!

This little guy dreams of becoming a gigantic sessile blob of flesh wrapped around rocks.

Will his dream come true?
Only time will tell...

Edit: He has found a cluster of stones.

Edit x2: He decides that this is the best stone to root on.

Edit x3: He has figured out how to save up nutrition for defense modules while still wrapping himself around the stone.

Edit x4: This is his current method of attack.

He will constantly reposition them to keep hitting his target.

Edit x5: He senses a nearby rock to cling onto and expand his colony.

The mine came from where he is at.

Edit x6:

Due to enemy attack, he has deemed his previous rooting site unusable and picked this one instead. Good pick, because there is a rock right next to him!

Edit x7:
Game over...

It was a nice run though.

Very cool roleplay! If we had some mechanic, maybe through a zooid, which would buff neighboring zooids stats if Sipho has no movers, this kind of play could work. Or a zooid that is like Grabber or Leech, but doesn't let go of objects and doesn't require lots of energy to maintain hold.

I have a suggestion...

Building off of your idea of a "Grabber/Leech that attaches to objects": The Holdfast zooid.

Type: Utility

Max Health: 10 when un-anchored, 15 when anchored

Range: 3 (similar to Leech zooids)

Nutrition Capacity: 4

Energy Regen/Second: 3 when un-anchored, 10 when anchored

Mass: 2

Drag: 10

Ability: Anchor (Energy Cost: 30, Cooldown: 1) - Attaches itself to a nearby object. Doing so greatly increases the energy regeneration and health of the zooid.

Base zooid cost: 4 Nutrients

Great for making sessile creatures, this zooid is able to sprout "roots" to attach itself to any object (yes, even eggs and spike balls, though the latter is risky). Since sacrificing movement is quite a large trade-off, this zooid offers exceptional energy regeneration compared to other utility zooids when anchored, while also making sure it is not easy to destroy. Also, rather than requiring a constant energy cost for the zooid to hold, a better alternative would be to make it be a toggle ability, ie. spend 30 energy to anchor, and another 30 if you wish to un-anchor.

Good idea!

I wonder how it would work with Zooids from other Siphos around - it might be too powerful as a holder. Although we could always say other Zooids are more "slippery" than stationary rocks. Also state as a toggle might get weird, but if we do it as we do with Flail - global for whole Sipho, it should be okay. I will write this down and propose it as a prototype for next potential Zooid drop.

Thanks for considering my idea! You also nailed the method which it will toggle (which I forgot to mention), i.e. global for whole Sipho like flail.

And yeah...it was designed to be a little bit on the overpowered side, but in my mind, it was to balance out the fact that it only becomes powerful when active and anchored. After all, it's fragile dead weight when it isn't anchored! Nevertheless, I'll leave the balance to you guys, since you will be the ones to playtest the prototype if it does come to fruition. I'm just glad that my suggestion helped!

Thx so much for this, infact this is kind of what ive always wanted, like my very own christmas wish.

A rather intelligent specimen has turned up..

Oh HELL no!

This Saenus Beefuorus specimen has made quite an advancement to his strategies.

As well as the obvious spike-propulsion grappling method, look closely at the picture above...

See the spike balls?

Yep, this specimen found out how to utilize spike balls as ammunition.

It appears to be in the shape of those antibody things, or it could just be shaped into a "Y is for for You Suck" to show the other specimens who's the boss...

This thing deserves a name. All of the creatures in this thread do.

Spike Shooter.

The picture below will update with this thing's current stage of evolution.

WHAT THE FRICK IS THAT!?!?

It has "eyes" everywhere on it's body (Chitin zooids) that it uses to sense nearby matter.

Once it senses matter, it will rapidly extend a tentacle to grapple it, surrounding it completely.

Then, 1 of 2 things will happen :

If it grapples a rock, it will go on with life.

If it was about to grapple a creature:

Do you see anything different?

That's right, the specimen appears to have ungrown one of it's anchors and reshaped it into a mouth-like design.

It is constantly growing, seeking to dominate my water tank.

So, in turn, it is constantly craving blood and flesh.

This is going to deserve a much more terrifying name then Spike Shooter at this point...

*types in "The Mass"*
*Computer: "The Mass" is already taken.*
oh

well then...

BLOB OF FLESH.

The specimen has finally been defeated by an Advena...

Oh dear...

...well, I have a potential solution: you might want to (genetically) modify any future versions of the creature such that it has defenses on its anchoring "tentacles"...

...I shudder to think what this could become, given what happened to The Mass...

...which reminds me, I have to go and check on it (among other things), so I'll be on my way for now.

Oh boy, here we go again...

I call this the Stormbringer-Class Carrier.

Could possibly be another creature to add to The Hive Series...

If you want to tamper with it's DNA, here's the cloning code:

Interesting...

I'll look into this at once...

Welp, finally decided to post again.

Have a fashionably late, genetically engineered Christmas Tree.

...the Santa Hat zooid is an evolutionary oddity, but at least it seems that evolution has a sense of holiday spirit...

Here comes yet another sessile specimen...

Nicknamed The Trapper, this thing can use it's Grabber to reach outside it's den and suck somebody in, and then chew them up.

Horrifying...

This abomination will go out of his nest to snatch a Sipho, bring it back, then dissolve it.

Step 1:  Finding a victim

It has a heckton of Drifter zooids to help it do so.

Step 2: Bringing him back

It only has Energy Leeches on the inside, which sticks to his victim and drags him to the nest.

Step 3: Claiming the nutrition

Energy Leeches can actually deal damage, though not as much damage as it's fleshy counterpart.

Step 4: Repeat the process...

Here's the name...

Retriever.

And here's the code if you want to f*dolphin noise* with the DNA of this demon.

Back with another creature...

And I might of had WAY to much fun in Aquarium...

The Chaser rides the strong currents in it's habitat, dissolving anything that gets in it's path.

If you're curious as to why I sometimes vanish for so long,

Let's just say Sipho isn't the ONLY thing I play.

If you want to modify this monster...

Yes, I admit, I copied a boss from another video game.

The energy leeches are just there so that the enemy can't detach her from whatever it is that the hooks have latched onto.

The "Tentacles" in this case would be the Flails, and the Swarmers would be the Spores.

If you want to make her a better killing machine...

Keep in mind this is only her core. If you want to anchor her into the environment, you have to do it yourself.

and THIS is one of the millions of possible results when you let the game construct a creature for you.

Literally just an amalgam of zooids.

After much testing (and, as usual, a long absence), I am pleased to present my findings on an absolutely terrifying new creature:

Bearing the rather uninspired name of Terror, it is a ruthless yet efficient fighter. As you can see, this creature makes use of several Greaser zooids to make its three Claws much larger than normal.

In doing so, it minimizes the amount of nutrition spent on its weapons, instead distributing it to its utility, structure and movement zooids, making Claws lost in battle cheap and easy to re-grow, all the while having about as much firepower as its wall-of-death predecessors.

Furthermore, the lack of multiple types of zooids with Active abilities ensures that this creature is not weighed down by too many energy-generating utility zooids, making it decently maneuverable.

Simple, yet deadly.

Here's its code:

(1 edit)

If there were to be an Anarchy Mode, this would probably be Anarchy Mhaj'tha.

Also, his second phase.

the Organic Buzzsaw has made a cameo appearance in this picture!

The yellow-outlined creature is the boss.

The blue outlined creatures are Support Minions.

The red outlined creatures are Defense Minions.

The green outlined creatures are Offense Minions.

Absolutely horrifying!!!

The Cra'than are evolving at an alarming rate...

Note:

You need to download ALL of the creatures related to this thing in order to have a completed Anarchy Mhaj'tha Pack.

First Phase Behavior:

Stays completely still for most of the time, shaking the arena / rotating it every now and then to screw with the player.

The leeches and sizzlers work just like Normal Mode Mhaj'tha's.

the Sprayers will only turn on every now and then.

Second Phase Behavior:

Movement patterns are just like a Buginis species, After a set amount of time, it will switch to an AI similar to an Advena, and after that same time limit, it will switch back.

How it spawns it's minions in this phase is through the walls of the arena itself, giving a purpose to those holes in the Bone Balls.

But ALSO from it's own head.

And it spawns way more minions than in the first phase.

Minion Behaviors:

Offense Minions:

Will take on an AI similar to angered Buginis.

Defense Minions:

Will stay near Mhaj'tha, only attacking when the player comes too close.
If the player exits the range, the minion will run back to Mhaj'tha.

Support Minions:

1 of these spawn with each Defense minion, 2 for each Offense.
They will stay close to the minion that they spawned with.
If the player swims too close to the minion that they are guarding, All of the minions in the group will immediately attack, Sizzler-ing the player over and over again, buying the other minions time to kill the player.

Upon death:

Summons 100 minions ALL AT ONCE, hoping to completely OBLITERATE even the toughest players.
Boss reward only drops when ALL minions are killed, to prevent nutrition stealing. After all, The player would not like to get even more frustrated when a stupid little sh** takes the nutrition blobs for himself, after the player destroyed an already rage-inducing boss, forcing him to refresh the map and perform it all over again...

This won't be the ONLY time you'll see an Anarchy Mode boss...

P.S, I know you're already like "that's going to be too hard", but THIS IS ANARCHY MODE!!! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT!!!

And now I feel like this entire thing is getting deleted because it flooded the entire page...

                                                                                                             OH HELL NO!   ANOTHER   A N A R C H Y _ M O D E   BOSS!?!?

There's so many creatures to outline in this photo, I almost ran out of colours...

The creature highlighted in pink is The Crown Of Destruction (The Crown Of Thorns Remix)

The creature highlighted in red is called a Cluster Bomb.

The creature highlighted in blue is a Sniper Minion

The creature highlighted in white is a Melee Minion

The following creatures go inside one of the Cluster Bomb's four compartments:
     Black - Poison Bomb
     Purple - Wasp Bomb
     Gray - Muck Bomb
     Yellow - Frag Bomb

the green-outlined creature is what Cluster Bomb will look like after explosion.

Behaviors:

Bombs (including Cluster Bomb pre-explosion)

Any creature that is in this list has the word Bomb in the name.

They will spin around and constantly using abilities.

They have a timer that will cause them to self destruct when it hits zero.

This timer will be disabled if it detects that it is not Cluster Bomb, and that Cluster Bomb is nearby.

Does not drop nutrition upon death.

Sniper Minion

Buginis AI.

Melee Minion

Cra'Than AI.

C.O.D AI:

Switches from keeping it's distance to charging at the player, and then back again, just like Anarchy Mhaj'tha.

summons a minion every now and then.

Has a 50/50 chance to spawn either a Melee or a Sniper.

summons a Bomb every now and then.

has a 25/25/25/25 chance to spawn either:

                                        Muck

                                        Wasp

                                        Poison

                                        Frag

After a huge interval, can spawn a Cluster Bomb.

          Upon explosion:
a Frag will spawn from the 1st compartment.
a Poison will spawn from the 2nd compartment.
a Wasp will spawn from the 3rd compartment.
a Muck will spawn from the 4th compartment.
Note that these settings do not apply if the bomb was spawned from a Supercluster.

Upon death, spawns a Supercluster (mimicks the exact shape of a Cluster Bomb, but is large enough to hold Cluster Bombs in it's compartments.), which explodes into four Cluster Bombs, which then explode into:
If the bomb spawned in the 1st quadrant, it will spawn Frags in all four compartments.

If the bomb spawned in the 2nd quadrant, it will spawn Poisons in all four compartments.

If the bomb spawned in the 3rd quadrant, it will spawn Wasps in all four compartments.

If the bomb spawned in the 4th quadrant, it will spawn Mucks in all four compartments.

After the final layer of bombs have exploded, only THEN will  all of the nutrition that was originally going to be dropped from the bombs and the boss itself appear.

Sounds impossible, but this is anarchy. what do you expect?

Since you're already screaming at me to get you the code, have it!!!
