I wish I had thought of this. Great game!

I've been meaning to run this kind of game for a long time. Thanks for this!

Really reminds me of this ps2 game https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disaster_Report

Developer(+1)

Disaster games (the PS2 you mentioned and the Wii: Disaster: Day of Crisis) were some of the original inspiration for Endure (next to This War of Mine).

My next one shot should be this one! Thanks again for this game! love Goon Jam and love Endure!

Developer(+1)

I am really glad!

Let me know how it goes when you get it to the table!

I like how you could play this game with a party of non-lethal PCs and not feel like you are missing out on anything mechanically. I could see using this in a bunch of different settings - from hyper realistic to oddball fantasy. The booklet design is top-notch, too. Rules are written in a very accessible way.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words!

Yeah, I didn't want for combat to be the main focus for the game. I think a non-combat character in the party would reinforce that even more - because they would be coming up with non-combat solutions :)

On the other hand, just ran a short 1-on-1 session inspired by Dark Souls and it still worked pretty well. Endurance almost doubled as stamina in Dark Souls combat, but after a while (and few wounds), the player took much more sneaky approach :D

I love that it can flex between settings, the crisis creation section is brilliant and i really love that the players contribute to creating the setting. The hand crafted aesthetic really makes it feel like an artifact a character might have cobbled together as a sort of survival guide. So solid, saving this to use for a horror setting once Halloween rolls around.

Developer

Thanks Shane!

I was going for an artifact that could exist in the game world feel. I am glad it reads this way! Awesome to hear you will give it a shot! Let me know how it goes when you do :)

Simple but effective mechanics. Endure as a resource for actions and HP sounds scary in gameplay. Attrition is never a good idea, and wants you to be smart or be quick about your actions.

Great theme and mechanics!

Developer

Thanks!

I am glad it seems scary - I want the players to feel tense and uncertain about their survival. Also, the way I run it, characters can die at any moment - if you get shot in the head, you die. Having Endurance to spend might help you avoid being shot in the head, but once it hits, the character's gone :P

The graphic design/layout is amazing. I wonder about Endurance as a mechanical pool, since you lose it both when you spend up to improve a roll and when you take damage. Seems like it will go too fast. But maybe when I play I'll see my fears are groundless. So many different things you could do with this setup! Cool.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, Endurance can go fast, but can also be recovered pretty easily (spend 10min resting and having old canned beans or a swing of whiskey). I wanted to encourage players to always scavange for food and drink so they can recover Endurance quickly. Also, I want the players to consider how they tackle the problem. Going head on might require a Hard roll, and some players (especially when low on Endurance), will try to find alternative approaches.

Let me know if your group runs into problems if you play it. The only time it was played so far was with me running it, so I kept giving players some advice. So I am up for all feedback from other groups :)

Submitted(+1)

Ah! I missed how quickly you recover it. Yeah. I get it. The grind of constantly looking for sources to replenish it.

Awesome read. I am looking forward to trying this out asap!

Developer

Thanks! Let me know how it goes when you do!

This is gonna be my go-to system for my next zombie apocalypse game. Very cool.

Developer(+1)

Yep, I have run a zombie game with it - if you remind players that they don't need to kill each zombie, they will do fine ;)

My "house rule" was that when facing agaist zombies, as long as you beat the DS you are safe for time being from it (it is pushed away or otherwise hindered, giving you time to move away from it). You don't need to get its DS all the way down to 0, unless you want to actually kill it. It worked well for my game, with players mostly running from zombies, instead of mowing them down.

This is fantastic, great job!

Developer

Thank you!

I feel compelled to single out how great the scavenging rules are in this.

Developer

Hehe. Yeah, I couldn't stop myself from sneaking in a PbtA style rule ;)

Submitted(+1)

This is so superb! Cant wait to try.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Let me know how it goes if you do run it :)

Knockout layout and premise. Looks great!

Developer

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I might have gone a little crazy with layout - but it felt so right for the theme, that I gladly spent the time tweaking it :)

Submitted(+1)

Evocatively captures the theme of survival in both mechanics and style. I want a hardcopy on my shelf.

Developer(+2)

Hardcopies will happen - if everything goes well, they will be available within a month :)

The Tunnel Goons base is a good fit for a game about barely scraping by, and I suspect the endurance rules here push it even further in the right (desperate, tense) direction. Also, damn fine graphic design! Looking forward to running this.

Developer

Thanks!

Yeah, the Endurance idea is from an unfinished survival game and was collecting dust. When I discovered Tunnel Goons I fell in love. Its rules were a perfect match, and so much cleaner than my old dice pool rules. It was a perfect storm for me!

Let me know how it goes if you get a game going!

Really interesting design! Nice stuff!

Developer

Thanks!

This is really great work and a refreshing look at the genre. Very nicely done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I am glad you like it!
