  • The base for the good platformer was set out in the tutorial, but I think not all these elements were put into the best use. Mechanics such as using the companion as a platform wasn't really needed for the race mode as it would slow the player down and was overshadowed by the grappling hook (as you can hook anything) and isn't really used for the battle mode either. Two game modes also isn't necessarily a bad thing but building upon a single game mode could've made the gameplay more polished

Hey Noodle Meanie !

How are you? It's Ilias again. I have some new questions for you.

Are you a lover of Noodles ? Me too , i eat them like i drink water sometimes  !

The Questions :

What do you think about game jams in general, and this game jam in particular? What do you think could have been better, and do you have any suggestions?

What were your favorite video games?

Where do you think the strength of video games resides? What do you believe a video game should have to be a successful video game?

If you would like, you can tell me a little bit more about yourself and your background, if you have any information you would like to share.

Thank you in advance,

Ilias.

Hey  Noodle Meanie !

How are you? it's Ilias , i got to play and test your game "Ground Gliders" .

Well crafted pixel art and simplistic visuals when properly made can be a beautiful choice for a video game

it's seems challenging to me to create a game with pixel art , and i have a plan to do so too in the future when it's possible to me.

Pixel Art Games can be Fun Games can be cool and can be adventurous and nice memories !!

_______________________________________________________________

Questions:

Did you implement any optimization techniques, or did you choose to use only in-engine optimizations?

What engine and tools did you use to create your game, including the graphics?

How challenging was it to develop your game? Did you face any significant obstacles?

What inspired your game idea and gameplay? Could you share the story behind the game's name?

How did you get into video game development?

_______________________________________________________________

Note: It would mean a great deal to me if you could rate my game. If you haven't already, feedbacks from friends and fellow gamers is valuable to me. Thank you in advance for your consideration and your time.

Thanks!

Ilias.

Thanks for playing! For the game I tried making it with the Godot game engine for the first time. There wasn’t anything too hard to make, but the grappling went through a lot of visual and mechanical iterations. The name Ground Gliders came because you went so fast with different mechanics it was like you gliding. And my brother liked the name. The idea for the game originally came from the idea of an online multiplayer arena game where your goal is to eliminate a specific player.

From your experience is godot easy to learn  ? does it have visual scripting  for non super coders?

Was the 10 days frame for the jam enough for you to develop your game ,  or were you forced to set aside some mechanics that you originally wanted to includ at first ?

I loved the idea of Grappling Hook, congratulations on the work!

I think the rivalry in this game unused. You can make really interesting game like super meat boy with this clinging on LMB!! not on shift!

Developer (1 edit)

Figuring out how to make good controls are a future Noodle Meanie problem lol. I went for PvP rivalry in battle mode and score-board rivalry in race.

I'm glad there is at least one speed running game in the game jam. I did see the game on discord a few times, finally got to playing it. Grappling hook is a really satisfying mechanic & It was well done. Has the skill graph required for speed running game. I almost only used grappling hook to move which is a good intended 'hack' for the player to feel super skilled. Well done as a dev on including that!

(P.S if you break top 3 I would like to see the jar of mayo thing hahaha)

Fun game, but I discovered a bug where if you move really fast and hit a wall you'll go through the wall, probably because of the Box Collider.

Interesting concept. I like controls and the feature to be a Spider-Man xD

The music is a bit annoying :)

Does the leaderboard woks as expected? For the first view I thought that it is full of negative values but maybe its a dash xD

Anyway, it was quite interesting to play :)

Fun speed running game, the grappling hook is very satisfying but as it can reach so far it means i don't really use any of the other controls, don't know if this is intentional but feels like cheating to me :)

The hook system is nice. Maybe the number of levels can be increased. The scoreboard system is also nice. I'm in 3rd place for now xD

Submitted(+1)

Grapling hook was nice! But overall platformer experience was a bit slippery.

I like the race feature, but I think it's bugged with all the current times :D

Submitted(+1)

I definitely like using the hook. Why is the control so slippery (maybe I'm just not used to it :)).

Thanks for playing! If you haven't already a rating would help me out a lot!

Hook makes every game better!

crazy movement, i flew

Nice job! The grappling hook feels very satisfying to use!

The movement mechanics are very nicely implemented too.

One observation: the art for the characters, floors and backgrounds is not very consistent in style. You have different types of outlines and scales, which makes it look like assets from different games placed together. Try to maintain a consistency with the art of the game.

Nicely done! Keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I'm still learning pixel art and Godot backgrounds, so thank you for the observations!

It's a cool game and I love the idea of all the mechanics added in the game but I quickly found myself spamming the grappling hook haha.
