Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous and shown in a random order.

  • Although the game does fit the theme of the game jam i dont think the twist aspect was covered as well. I rated experience the lowest because it had general flaws and bugs that hurt the gameplay like being able to destroy your own helipad.
  • Standard survival game, but nothing really stands out. Controls were a bit weird with the delay on the attack and being unable to access items with number keys. Also was able to destroy the heli pad which makes you lose instantly

Tell us about your game!
The game is a co-op tower defense survival game with fully made multiplayer and rooms. You need to protect the helipad from zombie attacks, build barricades and replenish supplies. Every day a helicopter will bring you supplies and pray that it will be something useful.

Hey!

How are you? It's Ilias again. I have some new questions for you.

What do you think about game jams in general, and this game jam in particular? What do you think could have been better, and do you have any suggestions?

What were your favorite video games?

Where do you think the strength of video games resides? What do you believe a video game should have to be a successful video game?

If you would like, you can tell me a little bit more about yourself and your background, if you have any information you would like to share.

Thank you in advance,

Ilias.

Hey  vadym123, want_pizza !

How are you? My name is Ilias.

I tested your game, " Zombie Helipad Wars "

_______________________________________________________________

Smooth controls can be a  nice plus when properly executed ! Simplistic and well crafted visuals can also be the start of really good content results !

_______________________________________________________________

At the begining the loading screen takes to much time  , i think it's a unity bug ( if you have used unity ) , many other jammer had it too on their game entries .

Fun Games can be cool adventurous and nice memories !!

Questions:

Did you implement any optimization techniques, or did you choose to use only in-engine optimizations?

What engine and tools did you use to create your game, including the graphics?

How challenging was it to develop your game? Did you face any significant obstacles?

What inspired your game idea and gameplay? Could you share the story behind the game's name?

How did you get into video game development?

_______________________________________________________________

Note: It would mean a great deal to me if you could rate my game. If you haven't already, feedbacks from friends and fellow gamers is valuable to me. Thank you in advance for your consideration and your time.

Thanks!

Ilias.

Multiplayer implementation alone deserves a round of applause šŸ‘I didn't see the helicopter as a companion until I read the description & then thought that's a cool interpretation! unfortunately, There are game breaking bugs but when there are none, the gameplay is nice - the world gives a good survival feel even though its quite simple. šŸ˜ (Honestly, pat yourselves on the back for a multiplayer survival game in such a short timie)

We are very glad that you liked the game))

great game! i didn't get to play it in multiplayer, but i found it interesting to explore and try to gather as much wood as possible before night time

Super cool entry, absolutely love how you guys went for a multiplayer survival game in such a short time frame.

Graphics are simple but clear enough. I had some trouble understanding that zombies were dropping bullets and not spray cans. Other than that it's pretty neat, barricads are easy to place, guns are responsive, it's a solid start to an even better game.

I had some trouble during night 2 however, where the game placed me in an endless "wait for respawn" timer despite me having a full health bar (thanks to heavy apple consumption). I think you may have a bug on that end.

Developer

There are indeed some bugs in the mu revival function that we did not have time to fix. Thank you for your nice review and for playing our game :)

I give it mostly credit for the innovative style of such a low quality game combined with a random zombie infested drop zone starting the player's experience. Other than that, it was impossible to play for more than a few seconds. There's not in-game description for controls. Looking at the post, I see what the controls are, yet I can't deal any damage as LMB does not do anything to the enemy zombies. It was a bit annoying to have to type the name for a server in even if you want to just play single-player offline. It would be nice for instance if there was a button to play offline singleplayer or to join a random room or to create a room automatically for the player so they don't have to type anything, just click a button and start playing. The scoring wasn't clear at all and neither was the win or lose condition for the game. I'm not sure how the ally theme applies here? I'm sure there was an intention there, but also wasn't clear as to how an ally theme is employed in this game. The enemies themselves were difficult to deal with even without being able to deal damage. Maybe being able to configure enemy speed or damage would be ideal instead of having it default to being overly difficult. The sounds were also really loud. Without a way to pause the game and turn the volume down in-game it means you have to use to web browser, which for some reason isn't as easy to find on the itch.io browser (compared for example to the Unity WebGL browser). The game didn't display any tension or desire to captivate the player into wanting to continue playing. The low quality art style is a lot to have to deal with in terms of looking at, so you'd want the gameloop to at least be enjoyable.

Thank you for describing your survey in such detail, and for playing a fun game. Unfortunately, we ourselves notice the low level of the graphics. I did it without having any experience in drawing, but we thought that it was better than graphics from the asset.

The fact that you couldnā€™t beat zombies may be due to the fact that we didnā€™t have time to fix a bug related to revival, every time a player is revived he loses the ability to eat, build, shoot, throw out objects. You need to either restart the game after death or try not to die:)

The controls are described in the game description, is there something missing? (we understand that it should also be in the game menu, but we didnā€™t have time)

The main goal is to survive as many nights as possible, after each night your companion flies to you by helicopter, drops off supplies (unfortunately, the possibility of dialogue or trade with him was not added due to time restrictions and the fact that a multiplayer game is much more difficult to do than a regular one )

I agree that the pause menu where you could adjust the sound and music is missing

I really liked the game, it has an atmosphere of tension.  A countdown can be added at the beginning of the game. Sometimes I start taking damage as soon as I start the game. The day duration can also be extended slightly. I love the building mechanic, it is nice. Overall it is a good game.

Thank you for playing our game. It's very nice to hear something like this. Thank you :)

I really enjoyed the game, it was a fun experience and I must admit I got a little scared when it got dark, the lighting effects were really good, but I found the zombies to be too aggressive. A small map would be really helpful for us to locate ourselves, at some points it's crucial for our survival

Developer

Minimaps were definitely not superfluous. I sometimes got lost and couldn't find the base. Glad you liked the day and night changes. Monsters really get very aggressive at night:]

Submitted(+1)

If you will update game minimap can be helpful

Developer

Agree. We planned to add a mini map, but making a game with working multiplayer turned out to be more difficult than we thought, so we had to abandon many ideas :(

Submitted(+1)

Yes, multiplayer adds x10 to difficulty in development

The game has the theme... but it can be improved.
It is hard to get your supplies after the helicopter leaves once you have protected the helipad, because when destroying the logs, you can damage it and lose. Also, for some reason I wasn't able to eat the apples when my health was low šŸ˜”

Developer(+1)

I agree, the ability to cause damage to the helipad should have been removed. You cannot eat apples after spawn. Unfortunately, we didnā€™t have time to fix this bug :( If you donā€™t die at all, then the bug doesnā€™t happen, but this is just an excuse. Thank you for playing our game
