i love the map and the 2.5d art!

Thanks! Hmm, I haven't encountered that bug before but I'll see if I can fix it for the next version!

Thanks! Yeah, there wasn't time to add a proper ending to the game; although, you can restart to talk to any characters that you missed!

it's great, thank you!

thanks for fixing the bugs! ive still only managed to reach a score of 4 with the new game; my only request would be to make the bones spawn faster. there have been a lot of times where im left without a bone for 10 seconds or more, and lots of enemies continue to spawn making it impossible to survive!

(1 edit)

hello, im curmpet, thank you for the game!

i really enjoyed the idea of passing the ball away so that i could move through the enemies! i think it was very unique; and i can imagine that if you made it into a multiplayer game, you could position each player very strategically to keep the ball away from the enemies

i also really liked that there were different types of enemies; some of them staying in the same place and others moving around. the highest score i managed to reach was 4, but then the cloud enemies always caught me really fast!

also, i found a bug which was quite funny: if you don't have a bone and you jump into the dog and press Z, it counts as a goal. using this method, i was able to reach a score of 26! it's up to you if you want to fix it, i really liked discovering this so maybe it can just be a secret strategy

thanks so much for making this game!

most of the games in this jam used that implementation of rivalry. i chose a gladiator theme because i think it's a good representation of rivalry, and i tried to give the player a grudge against the soldiers through my story, as short as it might have been

i shouldnt need to explain to you the difference between me talking about my game and you talking about my game

you've made it clear that you don't think i deserve to be high up; saying that other games were clearly high quality as opposed to mine. but yes it was mostly the other person commenting that said my game "sticks out like a sore thumb". maybe that's your account too though seeing as it was created today, and you never posted at the same time as them

i agree that i think it should be up to the judges, it makes the most sense because they are giving out the prizes

of course there is rivalry, what do you define as rivalry? the game is about gladiator combat

the story was simple yes, but ive seen many games not include any story at all. there were plenty of games with better stories than mine i agree

well as i understood from the discord, these ratings are not the "final results", and there will be an announcement of the winners later on. so surely this means that it's up to the judges who wins. i will be sad if my game doesn't make it after being ranked 2nd, but i agree with you that there are many better games. that doesn't mean you have to call my game bad though or say that i dont deserve my ratings

surely the results are just up to the judges though, they can do what they want and don't have to respect the community vote? i dont understand what you think i can do to influence that, are you saying that the whole thing is rigged?

from what it sounds like in the discord, the results might not be final anyway. but i feel like im getting hate just because you didnt like my game. it isnt up to me where my game gets placed, what am i supposed to do about it

hey, that was my entry that came 2nd. i think i voted pretty fairly on all of the games that i played, and i doubt my votes would be enough to make a difference anyway? i know my game is simple but i was happy with how it turned out. i agree some games were more fun, but there were also points for storyline and theme, so maybe that had a impact

thanks! yeah, i originally wanted the eagle to have more abilities, it's something i might add in the future!

great game, its interesting how similar our ideas were!

i really liked the crowd animation and the different types of enemies!

thanks! ill be sure to try out your game as well!

thanks! im glad you enjoyed the eagle, i was quite happy with how it turned out!

don't worry, ive rated it already! good luck!

haha thanks for playing it!

thanks! i originally wanted the eagle to have more uses likes pinging enemies or bringing you their weapons, but i just didn't have time. i actually like the way it turned out though so i might even keep it that way, maybe with a more interesting movement pattern

great simple game! i liked how it got more difficult over time, whilst also giving you more rockets to shoot

thanks!

great looking artwork and fun combat! the archer companion was a little strong at first, but once the bigger enemies arrived it balanced out

great simple game, reminded me a little of bomberman. i found just buying a bunch of normal grenades to work out pretty well! it would be nice to have a way to get more grenades after running out, because often i was left settling for a tie

that makes sense, i think a magnetic effect on the cards would be great!

great game, i liked how quickly it sped up, and smashing through the glass was fun!

maybe the bird is a bit overpowered; as far as i could tell you were able to just hold onto it for a long time? maybe a cooldown would be good, and that would also allow it to be out of view most of the time like other people have said

overall, a good entry especially for 2 days of work!

really cool and innovative idea to have you train your AI that plays for you, and the game was a lot of fun!

the gameplay could be a bit more complicated, or maybe the bases could be further apart, because i found that the margin for aiming was very small and it was almost guaranteed to land some kind of hit

it was really addictive, even though i think i was quite bad at it!

really great game, i liked kneading the dough to fit the different sizes, and trying to manage cooking the pizzas at the same time as making new ones. ive also weirdly worked on a cat pizza game in the past as well, so this brought back some memories!

i had a lot of fun just collecting the cards, and i think the art style was very nice and unique! maybe the hitbox for the cards could be a little smaller; i found that i didn't have to go very near them to pick them up. you could also maybe add some platforming elements to make some of the cards harder to reach. overall a really fun game, i hope you keep working on it!

really great idea for a use of companions, hitting them at the enemies rather than attacking them directly was really unique and fun!

a great game with a really impressive level of polish for one person in a game jam

i think the balancing was really quite good for the short amount of time there was for testing

well done!

great game! i didn't get to play it in multiplayer, but i found it interesting to explore and try to gather as much wood as possible before night time

thanks! yeah i considered adding different weapons, although with different hitboxes and attack rates (damage would depend on if i added health or not). the enemies actually do have three different weapons which work in that way, i just didn't have time to get them to drop them for the player to use

yeah, i like the pacing for a first playthrough and i think it builds the right atmosphere. its just that if you want to replay and improve your score, you have to play through the easy section every time. i guess the fact that you can die very easily still keeps it tense from the start though

great score! i think it's the best ive seen so far!

thanks! yeah id like to add upgrades; something that helps you to improve across each playthrough

nice! im glad you kept playing and managed to improve each time!

thanks! yeah i thought about having lives, but i wanted it to be an equal fight between the player and the enemies, and i wanted it to be fast paced. maybe the spawn rate of the enemies prevented that though

if i had more time i would still 100% consider adding lives or some kind of blocking / parrying to make it less punishing

hi, could you let me know what specifically you wanted to know about the enemy AI / spawns? is it the spawn locations, amount of enemies etc.? or the way the enemies behave?

i created all of the pixel art in Affinity Photo 2; it's quite similar to Photoshop but cheaper and has a perpetual license. the artwork for the story section was generated using Stable Diffusion
