- This is a really great game. Easily top 10 of the game jam in my view. The theme and twist are both satisfied in multiple ways that ties in with the story line and the gameplay. Everything has really come together in a positive way. My only pet hate with this game is the thick outlines in places look misplaced with the art style. Now this is not all of them but just a few felt out of place which is kind of nit picking. I do understand the style you were going for and why these are present. Overall great submission please send me a link to the updated version if you have done any improvements during the voting process.
- Fun game with a lot of cooking mama nostalgia. The mechanics are well done and make good use of the theme for an extra challenge. Some of the clicking was hard due to the mouse and hand not being completely overlapped but the game felt really polished with a good gameplay loop.

What to say about this game? Well, I never expected to find a cat making a pizza haha, it was really a pleasant surprise. As for the game, the art was excellent, very cute and very, very, very, very beautiful. Very pleasant sound effects, along with the mechanics that brought me nostalgia from my childhood days playing similar games in the browser as well. I just thought that the game's progress was a bit fast since you're learning as you play, but nothing that's too much of a problem. Great job, congratulations on the project!
cute pizza cat and dogs game! , for a moment i didnt know how to spread dough
Thank you for playing!

Hey Redoxeide !
How are you? It's Ilias again. I have some new questions for you.
What do you think about game jams in general, and this game jam in particular? What do you think could have been better, and do you have any suggestions?
What were your favorite video games?
Where do you think the strength of video games resides? What do you believe a video game should have to be a successful video game?
If you would like, you can tell me a little bit more about yourself and your background, if you have any information you would like to share.
Thank you in advance,
Ilias.

Nice spin on the classic restaurant game, the artwork is nice and the overall mechanics are good, felt the paw drops a little off to where i think it should and found it overwhelming at the start whilst working out how to play, but maybe thats a me problem :)
Thank you for playing and for the feedback!
Hey Redoxeide (@redoxeide)!
How are you? My name is Ilias.
I tested your game, "Pizza Rivals."
Tell me, are you planning to open a pizza shop anytime soon?
In the game, I noticed a possible sound (audio) bug, like a glitch in the background music. It was playing normally, but then the glitch occurred. I am using Microsoft Edge.
Games centered around tasty food can be super fun, knowledgeable, and informative for all kinds of audiences, including both elders and little kiddos.

- "Did you implement any optimization techniques, or did you choose to use only in-engine optimizations?"
As far as optimizations, I manually disable the processing of instances that are not in use, such as the player's tools. I also chose to draw circle primitives instead of using a sprite for each "splash" of the pizza sauce. Other than that, the game is very lightweight on calculations and graphical effects (made this way because of the necessity of running the game on web).
- "What engine and tools did you use to create your game, including the graphics?"
Engine: Godot 4.1.2.
Graphics: Made using Aseprite
Sound effects: Recorded with Audacity
Music: Made using lmms
- "How challenging was it to develop your game? Did you face any significant obstacles?"
The game has 5 different steps to the process of making a pizza. Each step presented a challenge on its own since I had to come up with a way to represent each in-game and to calculate a score based on how well the player performed each of them.
I would say coming up with a way to calculate the spread of the pizza sauce and the toppings was a pretty significant challenge. In the end, the solution I came up with was, I think, very satisfying.
- "What inspired your game idea and gameplay? Could you share the story behind the game's name?"
I got the idea by watching someone make tortillas on the second day of the jam. I thought I could make a game about the rivalry of two pizza chefs, where the player would make the pizzas from start to finish and try to gain the favor of their clients over the course of the game. I also thought the idea fit perfectly with the companion since, in some pizzerias, there is usually one person working on the dough, another on the sauce and toppings, and another on the oven. In the game, this is represented by the player controlling two characters, each one in charge of a half of the process.
- "How did you get into video game development?"
I've always liked making games of all kinds; board games, physical games, etc. I've also always liked programming and video games, so I had to try making them myself. I looked for an engine, which at the time I chose Gamemaker Studio, and that's how I started.
Once again, thank you for playing!
Thank you for your response.
So, are you planning on opening a pizza shop, or have you already?
I live in Morocco, and you could have a Moroccan customer, you know. I can also spread the word!!
Thanks again!

Haha, sorry, but I do not have a pizza shop or plan on opening one, but thank you for the interest!
The game looks really sweet. The mysterious companion theme is also used very well. Well done!
Thank you for playing!
Cats & Pizza? Guys will look at this & say 'hell yeah'.
Super polished artstyle, very high res pixel artwork which I haven't seen in the jam so far. Responsive controls as well. Great step-by-step making of pizza too. Honestly I have nothing bad to say about this game haha.
Curious if this was a team game or a solo game (no mention of any members on the page so I assume it is a solo entry? )
I am glad you liked the artstyle!
I watched a lot of pizza restaurant videos to get references for the art and the pizza making steps, so it's good to hear them being well received.
Yes, it is a solo project.
Thank you for playing!
As a solo project, the artwork really is an impressive thing. I forgot to add in the original comment but it also made me crave a good pizza! 😂
Very cute graphic! Gameplay reminds me "Good Pizza, Great Pizza". Well done!
Thank you for playing! I can see the similarities in the topping step. It seems that Good Pizza, Great Pizza focuses mostly on that part of the process, at least from the gameplay I found. Seems like a nice game!
really great game, i liked kneading the dough to fit the different sizes, and trying to manage cooking the pizzas at the same time as making new ones. ive also weirdly worked on a cat pizza game in the past as well, so this brought back some memories!
Thank you for playing! I went to see your pizza game and it's pretty good! The music and the graphics look great and the gameplay is very entertaining!
haha thanks for playing it!
The graphics are very cute. Command responses work very well. I like pizza.
Thank you for playing!
a lil jank, but fun game! mmaybe you can add a switch that can move to have the bot on the right instead of the left, i kinda used wasd on the bot so its a bit misorienting
Thank you for playing! Yeah, I thought about it too, but it felt a little more natural to have the process go left to right. Could be interesting to have it as an option, though. Thank you for the feedback!
Wow this is something else entirely. Excellent entry
Really love how you refined that Papa's pizzeria gameplay, the companions really is a gamechanger. This is so well produces, just a bit more pizza variety and it could easily be a complete game, great work
Thank you for playing! I put a lot of effort into this game, so I am glad you liked it!
Cute game. I like the aesthetics and once I discovered how I had to do all my tasks, it was fun! ( took some time though to get to that point ).
Fits the theme nicely, but it feels it might be even a bit better if there was a bit more interaction during the day between cat and dog.
Overall, this was a very nice entry - good job!
Thank you for playing and for the feedback!
Wow that's cool! I think the game fits the jam theme!
Thank you for playing!
