Hey Kezgwarn !!

Seems pretty correct for me !! Thank ou in advance for the gesture !!

Apparently, it's time-consuming for them as they are focused on developing the platform. As mentioned, with so many entries, playing/testing  out all of them and providing feedback and reviews on each, in addition to rating all of the entries, would require time.

Hi guys,

how are you doing?

I'll try to share my insights on the matter.

Basically, I received the most ratings; I believe it was 29 ratings in total, in addition to over 40 comments, I think.

Most of the feedback and comments were positive, with good interactions.

I honestly presumed, without any second thoughts, that I was winning the first place. However, I think the Itchio rating system doesn't work like that.

One of the Biga Arcade team members (BIGA Dev ) mentioned on Discord that the participants of last year's jam wanted ratings instead of judges judging entries.

I honestly think that it's fairer and more professional to have adequate results come from judges judging the entries. But, again, in defense of the Biga Arcade Team ratings were demanded by last year's participants, so Biga Arcade listened to last year's feedbacks and tried to improve their system.

While the idea of the ratings being rigged is understandable, I don't think it can be proved.

If it can be proved, I suggest letting the Biga Arcade team know your point of views and demand an investigation.

But if you want it to be investigated, it should be before the determination of the winners.

If the winners are already selected, it wouldn't be fair to change that. It wouldn't be fair to the winners and wouldn't be fair to the competition and game jam itself .

Thank you in advance for interacting .

-Ilias.

Yes, I do understand, but opinions, especially when they are proper and well-defined, can sometimes accumulate and prove beneficial for more projects.

Hey Andrew, I am good, thank you for asking.

And thank you for answering and interacting; much appreciated. Yes, for some developers, it can be an enriching experience where we can learn new skills and improve old ones. When properly made and worked on, game jams are nice experiences.

I'll be checking that link you sent me, the game jams fan.

So then , good audience targeting is a must-have for a successful game.

Hey,

Thank you for taking the time to play my game; it's much appreciated.

I noticed that the rendering wasn't as it should have been. I found out that HTML5 has some limitations and couldn't render certain key features properly. As a result, the HTML5 version is not quite as satisfying as the Windows version. I use the Unreal Engine.

Regarding the feedback about the mouse sensitivity and the  jumps, I've read them, and I'll do my best to include fixes and polish in the improved version.

Thank you very much for commenting, interacting, and playing my game. It's a pleasure for me, much appreciated.

Can you support my game with ratings if you haven't already?

 Thank you in advance.

-Ilias.

Hey,

Thank you for taking the time to answer the questions; it's much appreciated.

Can you tell me if GameMaker Studio 2 is hard to learn/master? Does it have a visual scripting system for non-coders?

Thanks!

Hey!

Thank you very much for commenting and interacting, and thanks for the ratings – much appreciated.

-Ilias.

Oh, the most detailed answer I got is from you.

Thank you for taking your time and answering and interacting!

_______________

You too? Many didn't get the chance to work on their entries for the ten days jam period; some worked only 3 and 4 days.

Yes, to some developers, game jams can be a productive way to learn new skills, improve older ones, and develop content that can be enriching if properly made.

Yes, trial and error and iterations can be very time-consuming. The thing is to focus on ideas. If well crafted, sticking to them would be smarter.

_______________

Oh, so you were a classic NES fan too. I never played Zelda on the NES. Back then, when I was a kid, most of my playtime was spent on Megaman 3 and 4 and Super Mario Bros 3, among many other games.

_______________

Oh, thank you. You know, I asked a lot of other participants the same questions, and I got many replies, but yours was the most detailed answer. Thank you for our ratings; much appreciated.

_______________

Yeah, immersion problems, puzzle solving, exploration, and discovery captivate many players.

You mean the timing of releasing the game? For some game genres, especially if it's not a crowded niche, it can be successful and rewarding?

Is Godot hard to learn/master? And when you made a project for the browser, did you notice any limitations in terms of rendering features? I used the Unreal Engine, and when I made a game for the browser, not all rendering features worked correctly, like emissive, bloom, fog, and many others that don't match the quality of Windows. Does Godot have a visual scripting system for non-coders? I wasn't able to finish all I wanted for the jam; I was forced to set aside many gameplay features that didn't properly work.

Thank you again for answering the questions and commenting.

Hey!

Sometimes, game jams can be beneficial for those who effectively utilize the jam period and carefully select the content they develop. Game jams are excellent for testing new game ideas and acquiring experience and skills.

I believe the Biga team implemented scoring as a crucial aspect of the game to align with the kind of games they create and target. This ensures that the game jam is beneficial for both the team and developers. I think the Biga team considers this when voting on games, although I'm unsure if other participants had the same consideration in mind while voting. I also observed that one game was disqualified, but I'm not sure about the reasons.

Are you referring to the game where you prepare a pizza and throw it to the companion to keep playing?

Yes, in most cases, gameplay is essential, as visuals alone won't sustain it. There are exceptions for certain game genres that focus on exploration and having a good time.

 I've subscribed to your channel.

Thank you for taking the time to answer the question.

- Ilias.

Hi there,

Thank u for replying ,

Does Unity have a visual scripting system?

From your experience, when you build a game for the browser, do you encounter any limitations in rendering, such as emissive bloom, fog, roughness, refraction, etc.? I have used Unreal Engine, and some rendering features didn't match what I had in the editor.

Thank you again for answering the questions and interacting.

okay sounds good !

-ilias

Oh, you didn't work all 10 days on your game entry; the jam was a 10-day jam.

Oh Unity, I used Unreal.

Does Unity have a visual scripting system for non-coders?

Oh, you do pixel art as well. What program do you use?

I used to use Promotion for pixel art; it's an old software, I think it was open source and free.

Thank you for answering the questions.

Ilias.

Yeah!

Yes, sometimes choosing what to cut and what to set aside for a working project can be a little hard.

Thank you.

Hey evigouroux!

Yes, kind of. It was emulating "Capture the Flag," but in singleplayer. I still need to learn how to implement multiplayer in my games; I've never done it before. I am using Unreal Engine. Thank you for your comments about the graphics. Thank you.

Yeah, I still need to work on the teapot controls and movements; it does need some improvements. You know, actually, at first, the implementation of the rivalry theme and companion was strong enough but had so many bugs. I was forced to simplify the gameplay.

Earlier, some of the rival teapots would follow you in the level; they wouldn't stop until you shoot them. And to be able to win, your companion is the one that needs to collect the rival's card. The companion used to follow you as well. It was like that, but then after testing the game on the browser, I had a problems; sometimes the AI worked, sometimes it doesn't. The actor stays still; they don't move, making it unplayable as the companion that is supposed to collect the card stays still. So, you can't win; you'll only lose.

So, I simplified the game so much to have something playable and had the focus on the scoring system. For the leaderboard, I was intending to have one for other users, but the only method I had in hand didn't work, so I didn't include an online one.

Thank you for commenting and sharing your feedbacks, much appreciated. Thanks again.

-Ilias

Hey evigouroux!

No worries; any time can be good. Answer at your own pace!

No, no, it wasn't a robot or AI.

The thing is, I share most of the questions among users/players to get the most out of them in terms of answers. If I ask a set of questions to only one person and get an answer, that's good. However, if I ask the same questions to multiple users, the answers could be enriching.

-ilias .

Hey again  asimple-dev,

Okay, well, you know, I never played the original Zelda and the Pokemon games. Maybe I tested some Pokemon on old Gameboys once or twice, but I never got to play them fully.

The first zelda i played was Zelda: twilight princess , i think .

I never tried Construct 2, GameMaker Studio 2, Roblox Studio, or GDevelop.

For me, it's been a long time since I've used Unreal. I tried Unity once too, but mostly Unreal.

Thank you for taking your time and answering.

-Ilias.

Oh, okay.

I guess you meant the in-game actors events and the relation between them.

I tried implementing some AI movements towards the player using the Unreal Engine. It worked at first, but now it's inconsistent—sometimes the actors stay still. I still need to figure out a solution for improving the game.

Oh, thank you for answering.

Oh, you only worked on it for 4 days; the jam was about 10 days!!

Did you use Leonardo for the AI, or something else? And was the AI content hard to come up with? I mean, the prompt text choosing?

________

Okay, sounds good. Post some feedbacks and thoughts also; it would be a valuable consideration to me .

Thank you again.

-Ilias's Crafts And Toys .

Yeah, there are cities like Ifrane and Oukaimeden that have a lot of snow in winter. Unfortunately, in the city I live in, which is next to the capital, there is no snow, only occasional rainfalls.

The city i live in is called salé , it was a safe haven for pirates back in the years ( info from history , i am not sure if it's legit, but still it makes for an interesting story )

The African continent has a distinguished variety, from nature and African villages to modernized cities. It's like Africa is no longer Africa in some regions.

Yes, Morocco is kind of a mixture of so many cultures now. It's westernized in some cities, but we don't have cowboys running with guns on their horses, at least not yet!

you know on many other game entries , especially using the unity engine , i noticed the loading screen taking too much time ,

and i think i noticed others having freezes too !

could it be that ;

i used the unreal engine .

Yeah !

Well 30 days it would give room to have some rest on some games, and ensuring all relevent ideas could make it into the final game entries !

Many think Morocco is Hot , but it's not always , at the moment it's a little cold , yeah winter !

probably mountains would maybe be covered with snow

-Ilias.

Hey , i am doing good thank you !

I can relate to the pros and cons you mentioned. In general, I am not a fan of rating systems; I prefer judges evaluating the entries in game jams and competitions. I think it's fairer and more significant.

If I ever organize a game jam or a competition, I don't think I would include ratings. I'll go with judges evaluating entries as an option to determine the winners.

There are jams that last 30 days; that is nice.

Oh, the UK! I am from Morocco; I was born in Germany, spent some years there, and since then, I have been in Morocco.

-ilias

Thank you ChillyField for interacting !

Yeah, Game Jams can be a nice way for some game developers to improve their skills and crafts. I do agree with you about the rating scoring systems, and about ratings in general for competitions. It's not always fair and the proper way to use. I do agree that having judges is a better way.

If I were to organize game jams or competitions in the future , I would set judges for that. It's better and neutral.

Actually, I am new to Discord. This is my email:

Thank you very much ChillyField !!

Thank ou for answering Prugiden !

yeah Game jams can be enriching experiences

Hey!

How are you? It's Ilias again. I have some new questions for you.

What do you think about game jams in general, and this game jam in particular? What do you think could have been better, and do you have any suggestions?

What were your favorite video games?

Where do you think the strength of video games resides? What do you believe a video game should have to be a successful video game?

If you would like, you can tell me a little bit more about yourself and your background, if you have any information you would like to share.

Thank you in advance,

Ilias.
