Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous and shown in a random order.

  • Although i did enjoy the gameplay in this game in some areas it did feel a bit lacking. User experience could drastically improve with some improved ui and maybe more abilities in the game. The game fits the theme well but kind of only ticks the box for the mystery companion.
  • The different characters and attacks is cool but some of the AI health bars were inconsistent it looked like some have same as player, while some weren't visible, and some were rotating with their characters while others didn't. There was also a lot going on in terms on screen space especially with the text on the UI which could be toned down.

Tell us about your game!
Darklight Duel is a rivalry and ally themed game modeled after the idea of older flash style games recreated in a top down Unity approach. Hence, simplicity is the focus. Levels automatically advance based current enemy pathfinding AI. Player allies have a home turf advantage and can stack their pathfinding AI across levels. The player must survive as a knight fighting against certain targetable enemies. Enemies and the player both increase in their health and strength stats as the levels progress. Additionally, more ally towers are unlocked every 10 levels up to level 100. The player's magician ally will animate when their ability slider is charged to 100 and their enemy attack is used. A local scoreboard on the bottom right corner displays the top 10 players from using that application.

Hey!

How are you? It's Ilias again. I have some new questions for you.

What do you think about game jams in general, and this game jam in particular? What do you think could have been better, and do you have any suggestions?

What were your favorite video games?

Where do you think the strength of video games resides? What do you believe a video game should have to be a successful video game?

If you would like, you can tell me a little bit more about yourself and your background, if you have any information you would like to share.

Thank you in advance,

Ilias.

Nice start to a game, found it confusing when you reset after every round, and died what seemed randomly when 2 enemies where close on round 6 :)

Good job, the idea is very interesting, I really liked it, keep working on it!

Well, I like to walk around and kill other characters) Death animations looks great! Would be also great to have some visual tutorial like click here, here is an enemy, here is a civilian. Right now civilians moving a bit randomly so hard to understand what to do with them and where are start / end points. Definitely has a potential after some improvements! You did a great job during the jam as 3D games are difficult to create. Keep it up!

Hey Risk E. Rat's Pizza !

How are you?

My name is Ilias.

I tested your game "Darlight Duel" ,

i have some feedbacks, thoughts, and questions.

The loading at the begining takes to much time !

The full screen is it a bug ? or is it a choice for larger screens  ?

it could have been nice if it was an option .

Did you include any optimisation techniques or did you rather chose to include only the in-engine ones.

what engine and tools did you use to create your game , your graphics ?

was it hard to develop your game ? did you experienced some challenges ?

what inspired you for your game idea , the story and the gameplay ?

The Game's name and the magic/spells references ,

Thanks!

-Ilias .

Am I immortal?

Developer

No, you have a playable character, sorry that wasn't clear from the text and my submission text. It's always helpful to give more specific feedback so there's room for a person or developer to grow at all. Otherwise, it can feel like a waste of time and deconstructive. Hope that makes sense to you! PS I know my game is a pile of shit lmao. I guess I'm not surprised by the lack of details with people's feedback, but it does make you wonder why anyone would want to participate in one of these again when it turns out to be such a lackluster circle-jerk of unhelpful criticism.

Sorry, I didn't mean a bug. It’s just that the main character health is too much for me

I'm not entirely sure what I played here. Took me some time to notice I had a playable character and once i got the gist of it, it locked me out on level 5 :D  So that's where I stopped.

Sounds was ok, graphics looked ok, but most of it was obscured by alot of UI.

In general, it has promise and I'm actually pretty curious to what you envisioned as an end result.

Ngl, While the game concept seems interesting, In its current state, its pretty rough. So can't say much else.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Not sure about you, but as a professional developer for me personally it's helpful to know what you find rough so that it can be improved on.
