I actually like the idea of establishing yourself at defence stations. If you expanded on this concept, I'd like to see more gun types and maybe even a station you can move like your ship.
Thanks for making the game.

Nicely done! I like the color palette you went with and the base defense is surprisingly addictive. You managed to pull off base building without the d-pad/arrow keys movement feeling too sluggish too which is not easy to do.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Happy to hear that  :)

Amazing game! It looks great, palette is perfect, music and sounds are fantastic. Gameplay is fun and addictive, I really enjoyed it. I'd say it's a bit too easy/simple - it felt like the way I place everything didn't matter much but that's not an issue since it was still a lot of fun, 5/5 game for me.

(btw that parallax effect on stars is brilliant!)

Scored 68200 :)

Developer

Thanks a lot! I'm glad that you enjoyed it! If your interested I just released a newer version. It features some brand new waves that are much harder to beat. Here is a link: https://blueeagle421.itch.io/super-space-siege

This was a really good tower defense game. The pixel art and music were both really well done. I love how if you keep the turrets and other items alive till the end of the round its gives you a score bonus. The highest score I got was 51,520.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! That's a good score! :)

Siege warfare in space, what's not to love? I especially enjoyed looking at the stars in the background, it has a nice parallax effect when moving. Nice job on the artwork too, it didn't have to look this good, and I'm glad it does!

Developer

Thank you! I'm very happy to hear that :)

Except for Gameboy Soul, 5 stars for everything else. Really great!!!

Any plans for future updates?

Very cool!

Currently the journey between station is a bit annoying. I guess you could introduce a new game mechanic for it in a bigger game. Anyway, very addictive tower defense style.

Developer

Thanks!  I will see what I can do to improve it :)

It's really simple and intuitive and super addictive!

Graphics and music are nice too!

Great job!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed! :)

This is the most refined and streamlined tower defense I played in a long time. Super intuitive and polished. Excellent game!!!

Developer

Thanks, I'm happy to hear that!

Submitted(+1)

Damn, the game has some complex mechanics. I find tower defense games a bit  monotonous for the grinding, but this one was simple enough. Really liked it.

Developer

Thanks!

Just finished playing through it! I loved the concept! Though I feel like the bombs and rocks aren't really that useful considering that you can just mash the shoot button for turrets and they will get the job done real fast. Art and music and everything else feels REALLY polished! Good job!

Developer

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed :) The rocks are meant to protect your turrets so when enemies get to them you have some more time to deal with them. You can also use rocks as bait and buy yourself more time that way. I have to agree on bombs effectiveness. I'm currently looking into  ways to make them better. A solution will probably be published with the new update after the rating period. Thanks for your feedback ;)

Great work! It was really addictive, I liked everything about it!

As you said, this game is way too powerful to run in a GB, but in an overall non-GBjam context, it's a complete package and I would love to see it expanded.

Developer

Thanks a lot! Happy to hear that :) An update with brand new content will be published as soon as rating period ends. Some already implemented and working stuff is shown on new game screenshots.

Developer

Hi! I just released a new update and thought that you might be interested. I features a lot of brand new content so I highly recommend to give it a shot! Here is the link: https://blueeagle421.itch.io/super-space-siege

How fun! I was a bit surprised by the button-mash element, but I really enjoyed the mini tower defense gameplay. The decision to have each location in a shared overworld was also fun.

The audio is a tad loud; it often peaked at -0.1 dB.

The art and palette is great; it's very moody and serene.

Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! Some sounds may overlap and be louder especially in later waves when you have a lot of turrets firing simultaneously. I will try to fix that and look into main audio mixer volume. Will push a fix after the voting period. Glad you enjoyed my game!

The game looks and sounds amazing, even if as you said the game will not run on an actual Gameboy. There's a few things I would change, like making the turrets shoot by themselves instead of me spamming Z as if this was a matter of life and death (well, it technically is, but you got my point I hope), but even with the spamming I enjoyed my time. Nice game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! With Z spamming I was trying to recreate a sort of old school “arcade” feeling when machines had only one button and you had to spam it as fast as you could. I understand that it might not be for everyone but despite that I’m happy you still enjoyed my game ;)

I liked the game a lot! Interesting concept. The only thing I would suggest is that the "tiles" you get to put appear like a surprise for you. First you start with 3 rocks, which is fine, then on the second wave you get 2 railguns, so i asked myself "Oh no rocks on this level?" just to realize that after putting the 2 railguns then I "was given" the rocks. It would be good to know ahead all tiles I could use to defend. But, honestly this didn't break the experience, just an improvement note, I enjoyed it a lot :).
Color pallette sound and graphics made me feel like playing a retro game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I was experimenting with a system that would indicate what you have in your “inventory” but nothing really worked for me. Might tinker around with it some more, but I personally like that element of surprise that the current system gives.  Thanks for good feedback! :)

The game is simple, yet very challenging. The fact that you have to do your best guess when placing your buildings gives you a bit of a tension, but then it's satisfying once you are able to kill all of the enemies in a single wave. As someone who doesn't play a lot of tower defense games, I am impressed by this. It may not feel completely like a Game Boy game to me, but that's not a problem.
Developer(+1)

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it ;)

Ok, so this was pure fun! I'm not a fan of tower defense games, but this one got me. I was able to complete it and I felt like I needed more things to defend, haha. I can see how this game can be expanded, like different ships, power-ups, and obviously levels. One thing I would want to change is the speed at which the ship moves, maybe it would be better if you could move by just pressing the key instead of smashing the button.

Very solid entry.

Developer

I'm very glad to hear that! Thanks for playing :) I already have a lot of new stuff and improvements wating to be released as soon as the rating period ends. I showed some in "progress" channel of discord if your interested. Also if you mean the player's main ship then I'm pretty sure that you can move it with holding the button unless there was a bug of some kind

Submitted(+1)

Haha, you are right!, I can move if I keep pressing the arrows. Not sure why I didn't notice.

Submitted(+1)

Very nice concept! I absolute adore the parallax effect and the animations feel very smooth and nice 👍 Great job

Developer

Thanks!

Wow this game is amazing, at first I didn´t know what I had to do for "starting" the siege but after that everything went perfect, really nice job!
