A well-executed game. The idea is intuitive to understand, but the twist of essentially being a walking target makes it novel. I particularly like the dual purpose upgrades served; they made it easier to take out hoards of enemies, but also made the arena more dangerous and pushed the game to a conclusion. Visuals were clear and controls were responsive. I don't know if the leaderboards at the end was smokes and mirrors or actual  updated player scores, but it did nudge me to play the game a few more times. I enjoyed my time with this. Congrats on a job well done.

If there's one thing I would consider changing, it's how you word the game. To quote from the games page:

"Hordes of enemies are coming after you, and all you have is a turret. But it's shooting at you?!A twist on an arena shooter, where your gun shoots at you instead."

Reading that had me going in questioning whether or not this game hit the theme of Roles Reversed. Obviously it fits mechanically, as you are the target rather than a shooter. But this framing throws things off a bit. If this is my turret, and my goal is to take out enemies, then aren't I essentially playing the same role but in an unorthodox way?

I feel that the turret shouldn't be framed as your own. That you should be painted as someone invading a space instead of someone improvising a different way to do the same job. Obviously this is a very minor detail. It doesn't even make a mechanical difference. But minor details can add up, and simple framing can change how something feels.

Thanks for playing and telling us how you feel about our description.

We are glad that you enjoyed our game and really explained in detailed how it is in your own way.  The leaderboards are actually real and a lot of players have gotten top 10 and have essentially beaten most of the devs highscores. Really appreciate that you enjoyed our game!

Reading your comment about our description, personally I think it makes sense and we will take this into consideration and will think of a better fitting description for our game.  We will discuss internally with our team about this. Thanks for your comment and thanks for playing our game!

An interesting take on a bullet hell! It definitely feels weird being unable to shoot.

A bullet hell of my own making.

Love it!

The aesthetic, gameplay, and concept are all very well done. One of the best looking and feeling submissions I've played so far!

A big thank you from our team on your feedback for our game! We strive to aim for our games to be fun and also feel good to play with.  We're glad that we could convey these to you :)

What a blast! We enjoyed the art style and gameplay so much and had a lot of fun trying to get a higher score. Great job!!

Submitted(+3)

Now that is a Retro style! Very cool mechanic and tight core loop. Really well done!

This game was great! Bullet hells are really fun and the trade off of the gun getting stronger but harder to dodge is great. The different upgrades also felt impactful and unique each time you get them, making it noticeably more difficult to dodge but easier to shoot down enemies. The aesthetic, sounds, and visuals are all amazing! The visual theming you used of like the 80s is really unique. This was an amazing game!

Appreciate your feedback on our game!  We found out there wasn't much of the games using vaporwave style, so we thought "why not?"  We art team was pretty much excited to challenge ourselves on this new territory and brainstorming on how to make this style work. Your positive feedback is very valuable to us <3

As a lover of bullet hell shooters and 80s vaporwave aesthetics, I couldn't resist trying it out.

I was impressed especially on the Music, SFX and VFX that blend perfectly with the fast-paced and clean gameplay.
I love the feeling of being able to redirect bullets by moving and using enemies as shields to destroy them, although I always struggled with the larger enemies after reaching 190 points, both due to the speed at which they were generated and their size and resilience (but I suppose it's just my lack of skill lol).
A little thing I would have appreciated is an on-screen score display during the game.

Well done! The game is fun and addicting, and I will continue to play and try to enter into leaderboard :)

Ahh, I understand perfectly well when there's a game for something niche hahaha

Thank you for your feedback, and sharing with us about your gameplay experience!  This vaporwave style was a first for our team. It was pretty rough early on, thinking about how to create that "vaporwave" feeling in our art and music, while still blending into the gameplay.  But we were pretty determined to make this style work, and we wouldn't want to half-ass it.

The on-screen score display is a good idea, we'll discuss about it internally! Thank you for the suggestion <3

Once again thank you for your time and all the best on your gameplay! I'd love to see you on the leaderboard.

Pretty fun to play. I believe most of us had the same idea at some point :D

Great game.
I really enjoyed it.

Great gameplay idea and realization! Very smart choose of visuals - simple, but beautiful! Liked different enemies!
Definitely top 100 game here!

Really cool graphics. Very polished game. GG!

Developer(+1)

Thank you,  it was risky for us to try out a brand new artstyle in a 48 hour jam, but we were determined! The polishing stage was hellish too but it was worth it seeing  players like you enjoying the game. It brings a smile to our faces :)

Very interesting idea, the game turns to a bullet hell but your only objective is to run and stay alive. The gameplay is very intense and the power ups are very cool.

Congratulations on the great game!

Very cool idea and great execution!

Submitted(+3)

very cool! presentation feels really coherent and the polish is amazing! the way you have to guide the shots while also dodging them is great risk reward and feels really nice as a game concept, good job!

Submitted(+3)

Fun idea, that overall felt like it was executed very well! It does very quickly get to be very chaotic a lot to track, which makes me wish that the map grew a little bit with each level up. Good luck in the jam!

I'm using a Mac and I can't load the game ! Your game is the second one in the Jam that causes that reaction on my laptop. Out of curiosity, what engine do you use ? Or Maybe that's because the game is automatically loading when the web page opens ?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

There's a downloadable Mac version that works. The engine we're using in it's latest version, Godot 4.1, currently doesn't work with web exports for Mac.

Edit: I've added a notice now for future players, sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for bringing this up.

Love it.

Fun, simple, looks good, creative and nice difficulty steps along the way.

Leaderboards are a great plus!

Great!! :)
