That was a lot of fun, even with the bug (also impressive you managed to get a workaround in time), I kept coming back to try & get more cards in my deck to verse the different heroes. I great level of variety was achieved with only a few changing variables; which is impressive.

The pixel art worked really well with the style as well. & I'm not sure if there was sound; mine wasn't playing?

Well done on getting it done in time.

Oh, & a screenshot from my adventures:

Infinite waves? (we did the same lol; we ran out of time)

Thanks for playing! Yea didn’t have time for sounds, also good to see the HQ raid level is working :D

Very cool idea, good job!

This is good, but there is a lot of bugs, and a tutorial would have been very useful here. :)

Developer(+1)

yea, had 0 play testing, maybe if I had a team, would have been better.

Really fun, and a cool idea!

I ran into an issue that might be a bug (besides the freezing bug you mention): when I got to the HQ mission, it seemed to just go on forever? Eventually I had such a massive horde of guys that any hero that dared to show his face got utterly annihilated immediately. Was I supposed to do something else there?

Also, a lot of the times the heroes in normal battles (and in the HQ one) would run off the side of the screen and my dudes would just run off the screen with them, and come back a bit later with blood on their hands. I.e. it feels like the area they could move in was bigger than the area I could see. I tried making it fullscreen, but it just put the small window into a large black box and didn't fix the issue.

But all that is just bugginess; the gameplay loop was fun and seems solid. More unit types and stuff would help make this game more variable and interesting over the long term, but obviously there was limited time! I also enjoyed the traits the heroes had to give them strengths and weaknesses. Very cool.

Thanks for playing! btw, you can move the camera using middle mouse button or the arrow keys.

A little buggy but this was fun and an interesting concept. Would love to see this get expanded in the future.

A very well made game! Definitely one of the best "You are the villain" games here. Could use some music though.

Froze 3 times

Developer

yea it’s a bug, forgot to reset time scale, and unity keeps time scale between scene :X the work around is to reload the page, progress is saved after each fight.

Many people had the idea of "you control the villain", but this game actually delivers on that promise really well. It really feels like you're trying to overwhelm the hero with your minions! It's also really fun to place the monsters and to think about your strategy and about possible weaknesses of the hero.

Obviously there was limited time, but I feel like it would get exponentially better if the player had more minion types! Personally I also didn't figure out how to progress and get better minions, or that map with the castle that's on the itch page 🤔

The HQ raid should be a random chance but could be bugged, had no time to test if you even get it :D

Really Cool and interesting game, with stellar graphics. I love it  especially because of the "Bugs", pun intended. ;-)

Very interesting, except for the bugs.

Very neat game! It was so exciting to see the new card show up after I defeated a few heroes, and I really enjoyed the concept of building up my deck with newer, stronger cards! The heroes raiding the HQ also made me feel like a villain, as the overwhelming force of heroes felt like a perfect send off to my reign of terror funnily enough XD Good work!

Cool concept - I felt like I was playing zerg in starcraft :) Shame about the game breaking bug, but no big deal. Comes with the territory and the time limit. Nice work!

Submitted(+1)

Concept is excellent, shame about the bug. Feels like this could be a fantastic full game if it was fleshed out more.

It'd be nice if the tutorial explanation was in the game instead of on the description. And also sound/music of course. I don't understand what some of the different bars and numbers do, so some simplification could be helpful.

I hope you keep developing this one because I would definitely love to see what it could become if expanded to meet its full potential.

Neat game! The bug is unfortunate, but I think I managed to get an overview of it anyway. The back and forth between two forces is a great concept, however it seems to be balanced a bit much in the heroes favor and it's hard to strategically place your troops when the heroes run off-screen. Still, I can definitely see this being a fun experience with a fully realized version. Great job!

The game was fun and nicely executed! Looking nice , some music and effects would make it pop more, I like the idea of the different units and traits on heroes but I wish it was a bit better explained which does what. I'm not sure how the fight for HQ goes but it felt a bit repetitive, the missions where more fun.

Developer

I updated the itch page with a guide. Didn’t have the time for a tutorial. Wanted to make an interactive one.

Cool idea and use of the theme, a little hard to understand at first.

Developer(+1)

yea has lots of stats, I updated the itch page with a guide, best I could do.

Submitted(+1)

Fun game but was a bit hard to understand, could have done with a tutorial at the start, as being thrown straight into a screen with so many things felt a bit overwhelming

Submitted(+1)

Great stuff! My only gripe is that it is a bit tough to understand, and could benefit from an in-game tutorial.

Submitted(+1)

This is a really impressive game to create in a game jam (even if the art is pre-existing). This has probably the largest amount of content of any submission i've seen so far. Also really fun and interesting strategy gameplay. I wish this had some music/sounds but I understand completely if there was not enough time for that. Still an excellent game!

good job.
