A fun arcade game with an interesting take on the theme. I felt like the controls could be a bit more responsive but that's probably up to personal taste, I'm guessing some others would love it the way it is now since many space shooter games control exactly like this. Also, I think it would make more sense for the enemy ships to be running away from you when it's your turn to shoot, which would add an interesting dynamic to the game (chasing them down gives you more points but makes it harder to survive when the roles switch if you don't destroy all the ships). Really solid entry!

nice take to the theme! i think the map a little too big and sometimes i couldnt find the enemies. oddly enough, i didnt crash into any of them when i was flying too fast. did you did tat feature?
Reminds me of the first game I ever made for a jam almost 3 years ago :) I like the realistic acceleration-based spaceship movement. Very nice touch with the particle trail - a good way to tell the player where the ship is going. Agree with others that the role switch happens a bit too rarely - I can easily imagine a player who never survives long enough to even reach the switch :) Filling the space with a bit more stuff would be cool. Also I tried accelerating like crazy and quickly hit an invisible wall, which felt a bit sad - I’m in space, after all!
Thanks for both playing and giving very legitimate feedback! I totally agree with you on all fronts and am glad you liked the other parts of it too. If I'd had more time I'd have gotten to some of these mechanics and improved them; adding map barriers was a quicker fix than changer some of the other systems in play to account for an infinite map. Thanks for the time and effort to play and review!
Creative idea have the player and enemy's swap roles actively during gameplay and the fact that there are thrusters for each movement option is a nice touch. One piece of feedback I have is that the space feels a bit empty. The music is also great overall well done. :D
Hi, my fellow space enjoyer, this is a nifty idea to swap roles regarding prey and predator. The only thing is that I think you should be able to ram enemies and not die when you're in a predator mode, I believe it would've felt much better. But overall a great game. I'll be pleased if you've checked our space game).
Neat idea, the control system is not always responsive the game itself is enjoyable :)
Fun idea, very nice looking! Spaceship was a bit fiddly to control but I loved the details of the thrusters and the pixel art style in general
Simple and polished. Maybe add some UI indicating where the enemies gonna come from.
Thanks for submitting your game to the stream! If you wanted to look at the vod again in the future here it is timestamped to your game
Love me some space shooters. and this one had a fun twist. Anyway you wanted unfiltered criticism, so here it goes:
I get what you were going for with the slidiness in space, but you way over did it. It felt very awkward trying to control the ship, which made moving around unfun. Also I feel like you should have capped the max speed at a much lower speed, since going at light speed and accidentally running into an enemy was also not fun.
I think if you just tweaked all the movement values to make the ship controls feel responsive, smooth, and in general more predictable, the whole game experience would be way more enjoyable. If you really want to keep over the top sliding, at least triple the turn rate so you have some control of the ship with that.
Two things about your actual core game mechanic.
1. 30 seconds is an incredibly long time.
2. Enemies were chasing you even when they couldn't shoot.
If you shortened the role switch to 10, maybe even 5 seconds, the game would feel way more active and encaging. And I feel like making the enemies run away from you when they can't shoot would enhance the feeling of who is in control at what point, and make for a very fun pacman:ish back and forth.
Hi, thank you for all the feedback! Glad you liked the twist on it. Lots of the feedback are things I've already heard and knew I wanted different already, but I hadn't thought of enemy ships avoiding the player when able to fire, and do agree that would make it more dynamic. Thank you for taking the time to play and give an opinion!
Pretty clever take on the theme, as a lover of Nova drift it was nice to see the controls and I loved the touch of infinite momentum. It did feel like it took a bit to long between the roles reversing but other than that super fun!
Neat idea! Enjoyed it overall, but found it was better to sit in one spot because I couldn't tell where the enemies were coming from to turn and face them fast enough while moving, which felt like it defeated the purpose. Cool concept though!
I didn't get quite grok it at first, but once the roles reversed it was super clever! I also like that you can apply force in all 4 directions instead of not being able to apply to the front. Really cute game. I wish the camera was slightly more zoomed out - at the start it was a bit tough to find enemies so I was confused on what I was trying to accomplish.
Overall, cool concept for an arcade game!
I'd appreciate it if you check out my game too if you have a minute!
Solid concept and execution here! Lot of little things QoL things that would make it way more enjoyable (radar for seeing enemies past the screen, slightly slower character / faster bullets, etc) but it's already a lot of fun! good work :)
I love the controls here, kinda slide-y but fun once I got the hang of it. very cool game.
Very cool game and nice take on the theme very literal^^
I personally don't like games that controll like this - for me it feels like driving on ice.
Still I had fun!
It's so simple yet so cool and well implemented. At first i didn't understand how it fit in the theme, but then i realised after the timer the roles were reversed and was real fun, congrats!
