Very interesting idea, really nice visual. Though controlling the spaceship is quite hard.
Good game overall. Well done!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words and for playing! Ship control is indeed hard but I'm glad you still liked the other parts

I like the fact that you have a timer that swaps the roles out. Makes for an interesting spin on space invaders. The overall ship design looks really good! I love how you animated the thrusters for moving in different directions. Great Job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked the visuals and concept of the timer, glad you enjoyed!

This has a ton of potential! The idea of flipping between classic asteroids and reverse asteroids is really unique and definitely fun. The speed issue you mention in the description definitely makes it a bit too challenging but it was fun despite that. I'm not sure if you are doing the movement with a rigidbody or another way but if you are using a rigidbody, you could add more drag to it and that would help even though its space and you normally wouldn't have drag. When you have to manually slow it down completely it can make it feel like its hard to control.

I love what you did with the thrusters though. Such a small detail with the animation but its a nice dose of realism that I really liked. Overall fantastic idea and I think with a little bit of extra polish it could be a really great game.

Thank you for playing and I'm very glad you enjoyed! I was using a rigidbody for the movement but got a little muddled with scripts versus traits of the RB. I do plan to develop the game further and so will definitely look into how I can use drag though, thanks for suggesting! I'm glad you appreciate the thrusters look and the game idea as a whole! Thank you again!

It's a cool twist on the usual concept, and the art is adorable. Getting the hang of controlling the ship takes a bit of time, but once you do, it feels really rewarding. It adds a nice challenge to the game.

It would be great to have some indication of where enemies are since the ship can have a lot of momentum, making it easy to accidentally run into them.

Developer

Thanks for playing and the nice words! Glad you took the time to learn it and find it rewarding! Some kind of indication is something I would have added with more time!

Wow the movement inertia is really present! I couldn't control my spaceship as well as I wanted. But I don't know if it's a bad thing since it gives the feeling you are really floating into space, which fits the game narrative.
I liked the idea! Good job :)

Developer

I'm glad you liked the idea and game! The ship control is indeed a bit off of where I'd really want it, but glad you felt it fit!

Honestly, I was going to leave a large response, but I think that ethyl3517 said a lot of what I was thinking.

This game is overall pretty simple right now, but the "revseral" mechanic is genuinely such an interesting addition to this *kind of game*, that I think it really makes it shine as its own thing.

If you add to it and release another build, then I personally would love to see:
- More explored with the Reversal mechanic (Longer time in each "state", and maybe the player chooses an upgrade or boost that's fitting for each state, so that the player feels excited and better prepared)
- Some kind of "buff" to the "ramming" phase, as currently the ship basically cannot use that ability, as it is almost guaranteed to hit a random laser instead.
- "Infinite space" (just have the map look upon itself). It felt pretty bad to hit a Wall in space. If you don't like the idea of a looping map, then consider adding visual indicators and reasons that the player cannot go farther out.

Thank you for the response and taking the time to play it and comment! Like you have noticed many people have been nice enough to give some of their own ideas on the game and what would be good to be added. Hopefully this means that it's a foundation to be built into something good! I do in fact currently plan on continuing this project post-jam, and some of your ideas are already things I wish were in it, and would be if Id had more time! Thank you again and I'm glad you like the mechanic and vision of the game as a whole!

Super fun. Good difficulty! Keep it up :)

Thank you for playing it on the stream! Glad you enjoyed!

I like it! unique concept! My only gripe is that Its very difficult to control the ship. I'd give the ship more granular control, as I feel like you can't really execute any plans since you take so long to rotate, start and stop.

Note: I'm not used to playing these types of games, so my opinion might not be valid for everyone.

Developer

Thank you for playing and glad you like it! The player control is definitely something that would have had more work with more time. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

It took a second to understand what was going on, but pretty solid concept and fun game! The only (very minor) bug I encountered was the sound of the engine still playing after dying. A few things I would've like to have is a minimap (which can show you the playable area (maybe instead of a wall, have an outlining area where you are slowed down,  warned and then destroyed) or some indicator of where the enemy players are relative to you, powerups (whether that be for speed, shields, or firepower), a health bar (so you don't just get one-shot), obstacles (like an asteroid belt to hide/navigate in), having firing go towards the mouse rather than the front (making aiming easier), have the laser beams fired travel with the velocity of the player in account, have ships that can take more and less hits worth an equivalent amount of points

another thing to make the game make more sense would be to create a reason why the enemies can't fire at you at times and why you can't fire at them at times (maybe the player's shields against lasers only work for a certain amount of time or there's a special emp that stops them from firing, idk)

Developer

Wow thank you, that's a heck of lot of feedback! Lots of the things you mention are all things I'd have liked to implement if I had more time. Thank you so much for playing and taking all the time to write your genuine ideas and feedback for me. Glad you found the game fun!
