How does your game fit the theme?
The theme served as an inspiration for the flow of gameplay. At first, it plays like an ordinary platformer game with metroidvania elements of movement controls and collecting upgrades to make life easier. However, the twist surprises the player at the end that the very robot they've been playing as and using to get upgrades and get stronger, will be the final boss fight for this short game, and then you, the player, will be fighting what you've built using the boss of the game.

Beautiful pixel art and animations. One suggestion would be to create some more mini tutorial challenges right up front to introduce each skill to the player.

Great game. The art is really well done and the game is a lot of fun to play. its also really cool that the perspectives switch to the final boss. and I really enjoyed that you dont have to pickup the upgrades and that you're able to play the entire game without dashing or atacking. had a lot of fun playing.

Great game. Keep it up♥

I can't give a rate to this game since I haven't played the full game, but the game is basically unplayable from what I can tell : the K key doesn't work at all. It says that it's supposed to throw bullets, but it just doesn't do anything. So I am forced to use the melee attack over and over again (it deals one damage).

Developer

Hi sorry for the lack of instructions! You suppose to collect pickups at later stage for the K ability!

Love the game, the monster are too cute <3 I tried not to shoot them. Gameplay-wise  I think that the camera movement is way to "snappy" (it snaps directly to the player's position), It would be better to smooth the movement a bit. Also there is a bug (or it may very possibly be a feature ?) in a room that gives you an extra life ever time you die. It is helpful at first for players that aren't very good (like me) because it makes it easier to get to the boss but the boss fight becomes way too difficult with all the robot's extra lives.

Such a pretty game! The sprites are very pretty, and they also work very well in a game context.

I do think that the mechanic of gaining health upon dying can be quite dangerous - you do help players who are struggling, but this does bite back in the final battle. Since players who die more often are probably not as good at the game, that'll mean they'll have a harder time beating the final boss.

(unless there's something in place where the player's boss will get more HP when they die, too - admittedly I haven't checked)

But still! The concept is cool, and I really like the idea of having to suffer something negative from taking something positive early. It creates some interesting choices!

Nicely executed mini-metroidvania for 48h! Some of the enemies did feel unfair at times, but gameplay is hard to get balanced just right in only a couple days. The twist was quite unexpected and worth playing to the end for. Nice job on the sprites too. Those animations are great!

Edit: Just a thought, you could add a [Spoilers ahead!] warning to your theme description for those who read it before playing to the end.

Very well made game. The polish is definitely it's strongest point, and the idea is pretty unique too! I love the twist where it's a traditional platformer then you end up playing as the final boss. I also liked the small details like the endings and the health increasing as you lose! Really enjoyed this take. Great job you guys!

Really amazing art!  The gameplay was great, I do think the melee attack could use a little extra range, but overall great job!

I enjoyed the visuals and the movement felt great, but the combat felt a little off.

Very cool concept! I think this is the first game I’ve played that features an in-game role reversal where the way you played the first role actually influences the way the second role plays. I dig it!

Without the role reversal, I kinda dig the idea to gain max health on death as a simple way to adjust difficulty on the fly. With the role reversal twist, it’s still pretty cool, but it’s also a bit weird that the final boss automatically gets harder if you’re bad at the game. The powerups, on the other hand, were a nice touch, since you can consciously avoid them and exchange a challenge run for an easier time, I like it a lot!

A little disappointed there was no reward for completing the first part as a pacifist, but I guess that might also be due to time constraints. All in all, this is a super cool concept and I wouldn’t be surprised (and maybe even happy) if you decided to turn this into a full game.

Interesting concept, but such twitchy movement makes it hard to play. I got frustrated failing the jump just after you get the gun. Up until that point I found it easiest to just avoid the 'enemies' and play as a pacafist. I would have expected dashing into enemies to kill them or at least dodge through them, rather than taking damage.

Love the presentation, sound and concept, even though I didn't get far enough to see the role reversal. Good job making a finished game, especially one as complete and complicated as this!

Awesome game! all wrapped up nicely with effects, sounds, nice art and music.

I wish we could kill the poison puffs. Being stuck near a spawner and some other shooting endlessly is deadly.

good job!

Very solid idea!

I didn't get that far because the controlls were too frustrating for me - maybe slow it down a little

I've read this page before I play the game so unfortunately, I already knew about the twist before trying the game and thus, I did my best to not upgrade the robot too much 😅

Still, even when you know about this, I think it's a pretty interesting concept! Which boss could possibly be more frightening than... you! The hero itself! If I was in Dark Souls, I wouldn't want to mess with the Chosen Undead for sure which makes this concept a great idea! 👏

Added to that, the Art is awesome and really lifts up the whole thing. Great job! 😁

I love that game, so I played it several times And found interesting glitch

If you dash right into the wall and immediately press jump you can jump of the wall instead, that can make jump even higher.

In case if you will continue to work on this game (You really should) I hope you won't change this. This takes much effort and It basicly feels so good when you managed to make these jumps.

Even if no, I hope you best

Interesting concept with a great retro aesthetic. I did have some difficulty with the controls, so it might benefit from having a control scheme that's more traditional and uniform (doesn't change between characters). Regardless, I think the premise is very solid and could definitely be built out further with multiple hero and boss types. Hope you keep fleshing it out! Good job :)

wow, great job! i really love the spritework here, and the theme is integrated very cleverly (even though i spoiled it by reading the questionnaire first... oops).

my big complaint is the keyboard controls--not sure if this is a standard set of keys i'm just not used to, but my hands had a hard time finding a comfortable spot (especially since i was using arrow keys for movement at first). i would have loved to use 'up' or 'w' instead of space for jump, and maybe a different key for the dash as well. i missed out on the slash move completely my first time through, but that's my fault for not reading the controls :p

the boss's invincibility frames lasted a little too long for my liking, but i still beat it (though i cut it real close!) so i guess i can't complain too much. i loved how the health got higher depending on how much you died in the beginning-- really neat stuff!!

if you keep expanding on this, i'd love more powerups (obvi) but maybe optional powerups, too? i feel like there'd be a lot of interesting risk reward with which powerups to grab and which to leave behind, so the final boss isn't *too* overpowered with everything, but you can also still get to that point without dying too much. but this is already real fun for a jam project! well done :)

Nice! Cool game and nice twist that it switches up and you play as the boss! I guess it is part of our "Be the Boss" mini-genre then!

Don't have much feedback. Some of the platforming may have felt a tiny bit clunky, but I think that's pretty expected for a jam game.

Overall excellent job! Great work done by the team!!

Such a good twist! The platforming section is fun, and much larger than I was expecting with a nice bit of choice available with routes and some great tricky sections, without ever crossing over to being frustrating. I didn't read the description before playing, so was momentarily confused when I reached the boss, but had a wonderful "oh!" moment once it clicked :)

Some lovely pixel art, especially the final boss - big fan of that design! Thought the dash effect also deserved a bit of a shout out here, I loved how using a brief flash of light that resembled the alien species implies that even if you're taking a pacifist route you're still stealing from the alien species

This was a really cool game. I like the art and the music was well fitting
