Description
This song contains swearing and mature themes.

PLASTIC & PLATE is the music track for the opening cinematic of GLEAMPUNK, a non-existent action game set in a near-future where corporations hold all the power and laborers get worked to death. (Wait, what year is it?)

In it, rapper-hacker-activist `pkill` traps the Metacorp CEO in the elevator on the way to his office, and serves him up a beat-down that he'll never forget.

Message from the artist:
The track focuses around flamboyant anti-corporatism, and touches on themes of income inequality, corporate greed, transhumanism, and collective action. Lyrics are in the project description!

It contains swearing and mature themes.

How does it fit the theme?
Cyberpunk isn't just about technology -- it's about the ways that technology changes society. The lyrics draw heavily from communal cyberpunk lore -- mirrorshades, deckers, cyborgs, and daredevil shadowrunners -- but also highlights how technological advances, when left to their own devices, only serve to empower the already-powerful.

Oops, the cyberpunk future is the one we're living in right now.

Whoa, that was great! Could also Imagine as an End Credits Song, but opening cinematic could also Work. Love the combination of rapping with the futuristic beat, which was very well done. Very good entry!

What thee fuuuuuuck
This is insanely well done, the bars hit hard, and the whole track sounds really full and good and cool and awesome. You really know your stuff, the production is scrumptious.
The only critique from me might be that the bars seem to be a little buried in the instrumentals, so I'd maybe add some more stereo bits on the sides to make it a little more fleshed out, but honestly, I might be completely wrong and incompetent haha.

But yeah, insane stuff

This is sick! Was definitely surprised by the rap and it was awesome. The singing part at the end reminded me a lot of the artist YMIR. Stellar job!

You had my utmost attention when my eyes glanced on the word "lyrics." Then I read further, and then already I loved the take, then I listened to the song. Now, I personally don't like rap, but there are some exceptions of rap that I do actually enjoy. Welcome to the list. Amazing job, I was hoping for something really unique somewhere in these submissions and I think I've found my favorite in terms of uniqueness. But there's one thing that's bothering me...

what does plastic and plate even mean????? im just a tad dense

Developer

It has a bunch of meanings!

  • quite literally, this CEO has been locked in an elevator made of steel plate and plexiglass, with no way out

  • cybernetics are often visualized in Cyberpunk as gleaming metal and smooth, glossy plastic. “Every damn line I hock at these jocks got ‘em locked in a heap of plastic and plate” is a reference to overcoming the overwhelming strength and power of a corpo-cyborg-militia through subterfuge, hacking, and clever manipulation. If you shut down a cyborg’s robotic components, they’d be helpless, weighed down by their non-functional body parts.

  • plastic and plate metal are both evocative of industry, to me. At the end, suggesting that the CEO will “take ‘til [his] heart is plastic and plate” is saying that he’ll keep amassing power and wealth at the expense of others until capitalism devours his heart completely, removing his humanity.

This is such a great take on the the idea! I really love the realistic intro and the elevator music switching to the fast cyberpunk beat. this is so cool!

Wasn't expecting rap! Great flow, great composition, and just great overall. Lyrics help strengthen the Cyberpunk feel, and these synths are cool af. Big fan of the harmonies implied by those chords and arps towards the end. Amazing work!

I figured from your posts on the discord, but this confirms it: you really know your stuff.

Great to hear rapping (I assume that was you) and news clips (I assume that wasn’t you).

It’s all me! Glad you enjoyed it. :)

In that case kudos—you have an extremely flexible voice.

Hard not to love this for so many reasons. First off you trapped zuck in an elevator and made him listen. But the song was too good he probably enjoyed it :p

I chuckled and the gundam line and then absolutely loved the sung verse that comes after. Also just the fact that you chose to rap this really ties the whole idea together thematically. Easily one of the most creative and best executed ideas I've seen for an OST Comp Jam. Hope you stick around for more :)

I love the intro with the computer voice, then the poetry throughout. Easily the artistically most sophisticated submission I heard all week.  Really beautiful, too. I love the part where the two voices come in around 2:20. Stellar work!

That really is a sick beat! :D

Also, you got a really good timbre in your voice for this type of rap, you know, it has attitude, and that’s also supported by the great mix job, I think!

And that breakdown with the singing was a nice suprise!

In consensus, cyberpunk rap is pretty effin fire, good job!

Also, also, cool cover art! :D

EDIT: I hope that ableton crash didn’t screw you over too much!

Our rabbit overlord is generally pretty kind about late submissions, thankfully! I’m trying not to make it a habit but I am extremely guilty of working down to the wire, I started recording vocals for bridge section 20 mins before the deadline. :P

Haha, nice, doing and finishing tasks last minute feels really great! I remember the last jam i participated in, I was rendering a promo trailer like 2 minutes before the deadline lol, the render progress bar seemed endless haha

WOW! I simply didn't expect hiphop rap after intro, but it sounds really cooooool! beat is sick and chorus sounds eerie and fantastic.

Great transitions from section to section. It sounds super cohesive and you mix up the ideas you have in super interesting ways. I especially liked the more mellow section at the end with the return to the chorus. Very well mixed, had a great beat, and the subject matter of your lyrics were on the nose for the genre. Awesome job!

Great intro! Always good to see submissions with lyrics too, this is awesome!

(Not formally trained in music to critique but here're my very honest thoughts!!) Very, very stunning intro - love how you build the scene with the elevator music, the script, and the sound effects!! I love how you use your voice in so many different ways and you give each voice a soul in this track. The upbeat rap had my head bobbing non-stop! It's just so catchy and fun to listen to. I I just really want to play this game now...

Also kudos for beating up the evil corporate head we love some elevator violence

Very clean sound design and intro into your world! This absolutely slaps, super clean mix and composition. Great job!

Really like how you approached this theme, It really feels like you have something to say, which makes this entry much more interesting in my opinion. I enjoyed the rapping style along with the electronic production. And the soft dream like section at the end caught me off guard. Really cool!

Submitted(+1)

Oh this is really awesome. Love how your intro leads into the track. Great way to set the mood.

Track itself also kicks ass. Love those upwards blips at the end of each lyrical phrase and how the bassline syncopates with the lyrics. Excellent work! Perfect for the theme too.

This is cool af, the lyrics fit the theme to a tee and the intro cinematic is so good
