Description
This is an electro-punk modular synth track with some wobbly vocals thanks to Spitfire Audio's new Gaelic Voices Labs patch, a 909 kit in Ableton and a lead synth patch from Ableton's instrument libraries.

Message from the artist:
Apologies for the late submission - bad back + itch.io account setup issues.

How does it fit the theme?
With the bloops and bleeps, hypersaws and modulation, this track definitely fits the Cyber component of the theme. The sheer wonkiness of it all gives it a nice punk flavour.

Hey, you got some really interesting sounds and composition here! I liked the wild contrast between the electronic beeps and boops and the ethereal choir voices! The whole piece feels like a mix of things from different sources that came together in a way where they are forced to get along, and it's very compelling!

One aspect that I think could use some reworking is that buzzy, grindy synth that is paired with the lead instrument at the beginning. In my opinion it should have faded out after the intro and then been used sparingly throughout. The way it is now where it basically continues unabated throughout the piece I'd say does a disservice to the other elements which are harder to hear because of it. I think I understand what you were going for, using it to create a base sound layer, but I think this could have been achieved another way, like with some manipulated white noise, for example.

This track was quite a ride, though, and I enjoyed the intentionally rough edges which gave it a cool analog, but techy feel, like a recording that's been dubbed over and regenerated multiple times over decades, picking up musical elements along the way. It's a very unique take on the cyberpunk theme -- great work!

All the musical ingredients were nice but there is too much rhythmic and harmonic ostinato for me. It would have been better if you could think of changing the voicing land develop harmonically :)

This is awesome, it's really really unsettling and weird, but fits the theme in such a meta way. Mad props for using the modular synths, the textures you made with it are fascinating. Really intense and crazy stuff. More polish would be awesome, but I for such a modular beast, two days and back pain it's too much, so completely understandable.
Great work!

Woah I gotta try that Labs patch now. Are you pitch bending the vocals or is the patch working some magic? It really added to the nightmarish chaos. The frantic arpeggios are on point too. Only thing I'd change is turning the initial synth down a bit to hear all the other cool stuff that's happening. Regardless this was fun :)

Thanks! The patch on the Labs instrument is called Dreich Dissonance and the pitch bend varies with the expression parameter IIRC.

Such spooky voices! Really impressive patching, I’m always blown away with what people can achieve with modular sunths. :)

really unnerving and weird track, in the best way possible. Great job!

Really unsettling and nervous track. Good Job!

Love this creepy take on cyberpunk. very creative. Gonna have to add that vocal patch to my Labs now haha. Cool, gritty synths, only nitpick is that a calmer section (maybe leaning into the vocals) could have added more variation. Great work!

Super creative track! The first minute almost lost me, and then wow it really goes somewhere refreshingly weird after that. Gonna have to snag that new Labs vst! I agree that some downtime or more variation of some kind could help.

Insane work building all these patches! Respect! The overall sonic landscape is cool, there’s lots going on! Definitely cyber and definitely punk!

EDIT: Really digging the choir sounding synth, that really adds to the overall atmosphere!

I enjoyed how spooky it was, with all the unsettling and intense synthesizers!

Thank you!

very interesting complex synthesis that i really enjoyed, one thing I would say though is try to have some down time in your track, after a while everything got overwhelming, make sure to give the listener some breathing space with dynamics!! apart from that everything was awesome :)

Developer

Thanks :) Didn't have a lot of time to work on the production after getting the modular patch built and working properly thanks to an especially bad few days of back pain - otherwise I would definitely have spent more time on creating space in the mix, allowing for more development, etc. But the feedback is appreciated.

Eerie atmosphere! I like those computer beeps throughout. Very unsettling.  Had to get those gaelic voices. Thanks for the tip. Really great choice for the creepy feel!

Ooh VCV. Intense! :D

Interesting soundscape you've created here. With those voices, it all sounds quite unsettling (in a good way). Definitely makes me feel like our protagonist doesn't feel at ease in the world.

Thanks! That's vaguely what I was going for... Modular synthesis can be great for gentle bops but it can also be great for wildly modulated electro-punk, which is basically the vibe I was going for. The patch in Spitfire Audio Labs is "Dreich Dissonance" from the Gaelic Voices Package. The more you crank the expression, the wobblier it is. It's marvellous!
