Description
These Goofy Streets (Twitchywhalez)

In the near-ish future, society has become a hyper-capitalist technological dystopia. This may seem like a bad thing, but fortunately, the ambient radiation from government nuke tests or some such has mutated the nearby rats into badass cyberpunk rats. With their newfound sentience and coolness, the rats set off on their quest to overthrow the government, getting up to plenty of mischief and wacky hijinks along the way.

Krawl (SocietyManSocietyMan)

Which is more pervasive: the force of chaos that snakes its way through every crack in every wall, or the force of greed that embodies the wall itself? Is an omnipotent entity capable of creating a rival so strong that it itself cannot overcome its own creation? When the vermin you once tread upon without a second thought gain the power to kill, will you be ready?

Rat Race Baby (Twitchywhalez)

Uh oh! Your rats have been stopped at a security checkpoint, and the only way that they will be allowed through is if they can beat the guard in a race through the breakcore factory. If you lose the race, you get fined 50 Amen Bucks, so you'd better come prepared!

Ratbash (SocietyManSocietyMan)

This is it, the final confrontation. The battle you've been waiting for your whole life. Fortunately, the final boss, Craig J. Cyberpunk, hits his head on a telephone pole during a high-speed chase sequence and dies about 47 seconds in, so the rats have a party instead.

Message from the artist:
It was fun making goofy music

How does it fit the theme?
The game takes place in a cyberpunk setting. The rats plot to overthrow the uncool ruler of society Craig J. Cyberpunk. The use of electronic instruments and amen breaks reflect the cyberpunk setting and it's chaotic futuristic nature.

This is an absolute banger, I loved every second of it! I particularly loved the little squeaky rat synth in "These Goofy Streets". Impressive how you guys had a completely different approach to this, yet the album sounds like a whole. Great collab!

oh this is groovy as hell.

Thank you!

I love the story, haha. I can imagine rats with cool sunglasses in the music. Very unique entry, and great teamwork!

A great collab, super creative!

The whole rat story is a super fun interpreatation of the theme and I really really enjoyed listening to the tracks you made! It's incredible that you made such cool tracks in just 48 hours! My favorite was probably Rat Race Baby xD The chaotic and goofy feeling had something so cool to it! I also loved Ratbash, especially the party part^^

Also, thanks for streaming some ratings on Sunday and including my track :)

Teenage Mutant Cyber Rats! I really liked the Rat Race Baby. But good job for both of you for the tracks!

I got distracted by the soundtrack so now I have to pay 50 Amen Bucks...

Good stuff!

Holy shit these tracks are so sick! Rat Race Baby is probably my favourite of the bunch. I love the chaotic vibe of the track. Nice!

Developer

Thank you! I’m glad you like it, Rat Race Baby was a lot of fun to work on

Wow. This was great! All 4 tracks were so well written, they were interesting and nice to listen to throughout, and it fit the theme and game idea well! And for a duo project, I feel like it still maintained a very cohesive vibe and feel, which has seemed hard to do in past jams.

Ahhh this sounds so ratty..... Awesome stuff, the instrumentals are very authentic, I'm loving the vibes. The breakcore samples, the spacy chords and spicy melodies just blend in so well

Thanks!

This was a fun entry for what sounds like a fun and weird-in-a-good-way game. Quality is absolutely top-notch and I really dig the use of voice samples. My only real point of criticism is that I'm sort of missing some catchy melodies over these sick beats, but overall, this is a really strong entry!

Love the creative motif right off the bat. And then those chord choices are brilliant. That tempo stuff was really cool.

For Krawl, was not expecting those vocals but they work so well! Cool bitcrushed (I think) samples and a great mix of sounds.

Rat Race Baby was some great breakbeat and more clever chord choices!

Ratbash was a cool conclusion, and the story to go with it is hilarious lol.

This is all some incredibly creative stuff, amazing work guys!

To start, I love the cover photo and the whole backstory with the rats and Craig J. Cyberpunk. I absolutely adored every one of these tracks, they were all so jazzy and beautiful. I especially loved Rat Race Baby. It gave me so much nostalgia from the Mario kart Wii sound and the the crazy cool drums. Rat Bash has such a great organ solo.  These Goofy Streets sets up the whole score so well with is chord choice and Krawl has such great drums and bass. All of them are actually incredible, so funky and jazzy.

Wow a combo soundtrack by two heavy hitters, lucky us! I love the refusal of the drums in Rat Race Baby to sit in any one groove for too long before jumping ship. It's got that crazy energy that I've grown to love. Glad the rats get to kick it in the end. Ratbash has me thinking they're more sinister than they first seem. Oh and I love the gunfire synth that cuts through the bottom of the mix. Nice job guys!

Nice neo-jazzy vibes with these goofy streets! Very futuristic sounding selection of synths and patches!

The bass leads the charge in Krawl very nicely. The Lofi piano entering is really refreshing in the context of the track!

I chuckled at the description of Rat Race Baby. I want a steady drip of amen breaks in my veins, so I shall be getting a big loan of amen bucks at my local loan shark.

RIP Craig. Cool transitioning from the amens into into such a funky organ solo in Ratbash! Sounds like a fun rat party!

Overall listening to this soundtrack got me thinking about VA-11 Hall-A, perhaps because, in my memory, that game’s soundtrack had a similar vibe, which is only a good thing!

Thank you! I’ll have to look into VA11 Hall-A. Rip Craig

"Krawl" si cool and creepy, love that style and works with vocals. Good job.

Man, I relly enjoyed this urban and dirty music style, I think it really fits with the mutated rats thing, so I'd say you both nailed that aspect. This is very specific, but some samples/vst (specially in track 2 and 3) really gave me a PS2 kinda OST vibe, similar to the ones used in Ratchet and Clank or Armored Core.

My favorite was Krawl: Only a couple of seconds in and you get  immersed in the poor streets fill with problems and government conflict. The juicy bass and pads, the dry piano, groovy drums and glitchy sfx really sold the atmosphere to me

I also enjoyed Rat Race Baby: While I was listening I was thinking that this sounds similar to some tracks of Gran Turimo 4, the drum & bass rythm mixed with the floaty pads are really nice (That's the kind of sound I meant it sounded like PS2 xD)

Great entry, congrats to both of you!

Developer

Wow, thank you for your insightful response! While I haven’t played Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo was the general vibe I was going for with Rat Race Baby

Hahaha this is great. I love the unique take on this theme. I'm just picturing rats punking it out in a future dystopia now.

These Goofy Streets: I really like how whimsical this starts. Love it. Also really dig it when it leans a bit more into the jazzier/funky sound. Not sure why, but I picture a platformer with this. Nice touch too including the half step section. Also, surprise amen snares. Nice touch. Great work. :D

Krawl: Vocals. Cool! They fit really well too. I´m just picturing one of the rats rapping to this. Also love all those little jazzy/groovy details. Lovely. Love that resampling (?) noise on the piano.

Rat Race Baby: Now we've entered amen town! Cool! This track makes me think of the PS2 era for some reason. Not sure if it's the amen, the chords or those lovely sound effects. Great sound. Oooh, arp. Nice!

Ratbash: Feels like we're approaching the last and most dangerous part of the adventures of the rat pack. Love that bass. Love that electric piano.

Man, this is definitely a memorable sound track. Great instrumentation. Lots of movement. Lots of new original ideas. Masterful. Definitely going on the rotation for a while.

Thank you for your response! This was a new genre of music for me so I'm glad you liked it

Submitted(+1)

It's great! I couldn't tell it was a new genre for you. It sounds like you had a ton of fun with it too :D

Jfc this OST slaps so much. It has no reason to be this good. Yet it is.

I absolutely adore it. So wacky and creative… damn, I feel like I’ll be coming back to listening it again and again.

A masterpiece if I’ve ever heard one.

Thank you so much!

Whoaaaa, these tracks are nuts. Love all the cheesy keyboard sounds – this is exactly what the cyberpunk future of late-90’s videogames sounded like.

Whispery rat vocals! Breaks! Tons of synth modulation! Atonal pitch bends! Noise! Sweet piano chops! Jazz chords! Arps!

There’s so much packed into this little rat-packet, I love it. Y’all also did a great job blending your styles and ideas together, all four tracks sound pretty cohesive!
