Description
Chip Hunter is a stealth game that does not and likely will never exist. Each of the tracks in this EP represents a single level of the game, flowing from stealth, to alert, to combat, and back again. The genre is best described as lofi breakcore.

Smoke and Mirrors - You've been hired to infiltrate a jazz club in the fancy side of town. Rumor is, the place is a front for the local mob, and they're storing a data chip your employer wants their hands on.

Chip Hunter - The chip's trail has gone cold, but without it you're not getting paid! You decide to investigate the undercity and see what you can find.

Now It's Personal - The chip has fallen into the hands of an old rival of yours, and they're starting to make your life a living hell with it. It's about time you snapped.

Good blend of lo-fi and jungle!

Cool breakbeat in track 1. Love the harmonies in track 2, love the use of Phrygian mode which is a good way to create cyberpunk vibes! Very crunchy synths. Love the jazziness of the third track, and the breakbeat comes back in, along with the return of those cool harmonies from the second track. Great work!

I love the jazzy and lofi style mixed with the awesome jungle and breakbeat drums in smoke & mirrors. Drum n' bass/jungle is my weakness in these soundtracks lol. Love how the second one steps up the pace and keeps the same vibe nonetheless. Really love that it comes back to the jazz and jungle beats, and yet it changes the vibe a ton in this one. The percussion and jazzy feel drives these tracks. I actually cannot choose a favorite, they're all so good!

Here we go.

Smoke and Mirrors - Cool! Love the lo-fi breakbeat in this. It's the perfect contrast against the jazzy melodies and the bassline. It feels like a stealth mission. Interesting audio cuts there. I imagine that would heighten the tension quite a bit. Oh nice, speeding up now. Oldschool drum and bass / jungle vibes. Very nice. Very cool opener.

Chip Hunter - This makes me think of anime. Not sure if it's the chord choice. Love the audio cuts with the single foley elements (the fizz, the bullet casing, etc). Those were masterful. Nice break again. Love how you mash it up a bit with some retriggering. Hitting the four to the floor section now. Huh, you've got more in store for us. Breaking out the breakbeats again I hear. Cool! Again, cool foley intermissions. Really doing some storytelling.

Now it's Personal - Oh yeah!! Now we're talkin'. Instant classic with that opening. Love it. Also love the percussion in this. Subtle, so that melody can take center stage. But still present enough to provide lots of momentum. Ah cool, here's that lead from the last track again. Interesting to hear it fits so well with the melody you started with. Oooh, what's happening now? Hello amen. Hello funk. I like where this is going. Nice payoff!

Awesome work! Love all the variety you put in these. Very nice!

My favourite was Smoke and Mirrors, but Now It's Personal is a very close second.

Oooh, loving the break-y drums right off the bat. Fun little micro-edits, giving the whole thing a slightly more aggressive lo-fi hip-hop vibe… Smoke and Mirrors definitely gives me “cyberpunk jazz club” feels!

Really enjoyed the drop into sidechained drums about half-way through Chip Hunter, too, and the sinister bassline in Now It’s Personal was also a delight.

Great work, overall!

the challenge i gave myself for this jam was to fuse breakcore and lofi so i'm glad you picked up on that! i actually recorded a lot of the instrument lines at a higher tempo and then slowed them down to get the feeling right :D

Really like the idea of mixing break beats in with a more electronic sound!

I think my favorite section are the muted, low-key jazzy and retro sounding sections like in Smoke and Mirrors + Now It's Personal. I know break beat music is so focused on rhthym, but I think I would like as well a couple melodic lines to cut through those droning sections. That said, overall nice work!

Awesome! I really like the breaks and inclusion of gun sound effects.

I love the little details. That little chip (?) dropping on the floor, or that balloon popping (?) may not be much but it really adds a lot! I also like the Jazz and Blues elements. Very unique among other submissions. Nice work!

Remeber listening to this before the submission deadline hit and already then I literally liked it on Soundcloud! :D Good stuff, i love this kind of music, and I sincerely think break heavy music goes especially well with futuristic/cyberpunk/dystopian etc. setting!

Cyberpunk aesthetics and jazz go so well together!

I think Smoke and Mirrors is my favorite track in this, good use of break beats throughout too. Great work!

I love the elements of jazz in this, especially the chords in "smoke and mirrors" and the drums and lead in "now it's personal". Overall, this is a certified banger
