Cool idea, but those dice-physics are a PITA :D

I love how the game looks like and how does it feels!

The concept of random effect in a "ball" is truly amazing - nice job!

A fun twist on a classic formula. I like how with a bit of practice you can deliberately land on certain die face, it adds some strategy to the game.

Could be possibly more interesting if you were to use a multi-faceted polyhedral die... Could give more ball-like characteristics as well as adding variety! Although tbh the cube was challenging because it was a bit odd to handle. Fun game:))

Please do check out our game too https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-jam-2022/rate/1616966

The presentation of this was really cute, I love the concept and all the SFX, but I must say, mini-golf with a cube is frustrating.

Personally I think enjoyment from golf games is having a consistent and predictable shot: now, the dice roll mechanic lets you see that your shot will be affected, and that doesn't create any issues because the player can anticipate it, but the physics of the cube itself overrides control and diminishes the effectiveness of, well, the effects.

A few comments have suggested using a D20 instead of a D6, and I think that would make this game much more of a joy to play! More sides = more effects + a more consistent shot by the player.

Regardless of my one critique, I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes :)

Hah- that was good fun.

Courses were interesting and the power up/downs kept me on my toes.

I wonder if a ‘competition’ mode would be a good addition, where the effects are deterministic (i.e. they go slow/hard/jump/scatter/blind) so the par can truly be skill based.

Developer

That's actually a pretty smart idea. I'll have to have a look into how that could work.

Thanks :)

Really enjoyed this twist on the golf game. The cubic "ball" was wonderfully awkward and it was fun adjusting each swing based on the given effect. Appreciated the scattered applause after my hole-in-15. Some parts of hole 9 were obscured by the windmill, but otherwise this is a very polished entry -- great work!

Good use of theme for this one and a unique offering in the Jam. Visuals and music gave it a nice chill vibe.

My only thought would be if there are more interesting random effects you could implement. Power Up/Power Down are just boring compared to Jump Shot - which opens all kinds of possibilities to trick shot off the course. Thinking outside the box, you could even having a dice state that changes the map (e.g. Toggle - toggles windmill position/magnetic forces/bumpers on or off)

Developer

My original plans for the effects including turning magnetic to the hole and also enabling wind and other environmental effects. Sadly I was really struggling for time and didn't get to implement the cool effects. Instead I had to just come up with something quick an easy to implement, like the power changes.

Going forward, I am going to lean into the fun effects more and create as many effects as I can that 'break the game' to make it more fun.

Thanks for the feedback :)

I like the game and the presentation, nice use of the theme either :)

Very fun to play. I wish there can be shadows to judge the height of the dice.

Developer

Same here. Idk why there isn't to be honest.

Neat use of theme. I would love to see this expanded with multiplayer, more courses, more powerups, and maybe other dice like a d20. I wish I could control the camera but other than that it felt super polished to play. Great job.

Developer(+1)

Of couse these are all things to address after the jam.

Thanks for the feedback!

Nice work! Loved the presentation, the effects felt unique too. Felt that more often I was fighting against the fact that I had to play golf with a cubic ball, however :D

I love the idea, it's one of my favorite game of the jam ! There's a lot of potench'

Developer

Thanks so much!!

All the kind comments on this has inspired me to expand on it more.

Really enjoyed this one. I think you could expand on variety with more time if you continued development. Maybe using a 20 sided die instead to have better rolling. My one issue is the power bar is so similar to range the dice can go sometimes it can become confusing. I would think my dice would go that far but really it was just how much power I put behind it and would go nowhere or half the distance.

Developer(+1)

Yeah the power bar and dice shape are the two biggest parts that need working on. I still like the 6 sided dice, so I need to think of a way to get it to roll better. As for the power bar, I would remake it by showing the actual distance the ball will travel, however being physics based, that isn't too easy.

Thanks for the feedback!

Awesome game. The major catch for me is the respawn. The fact that you respawned to the previous shot and not to the beginning of the game made the game more enjoyable I feel.

That's a good idea for a golf game! Easy to pick up, fun to play. I like the suggestion from Kokosnusswurzel about the d20 with more effects for a post-jam game, that'd be cool.

Submitted(+1)

I really cool ideer.

The fact that you can play strategyly and take a small shot to turn the dice was geat.

I little problem is that somtimes it is hard to se the levels design, and se hills and holes int the level.

but fun and addictiv

Developer

Yeah I agree. The levels either needed to be more obvious, or I should have added some camera controls.

Thanks for the feedback!

I keep hitting the dice gently. Then it rolls over one side and I remember it is a dice and not a ball.

Submitted(+1)

Slick, simple, elegant, random, loved it. I was only getting slightly frustrated with the physics of trying to get a cube rolling. I was wondering how this game would play with a d20 (though of course, you'd need 14 more play styles). I think have a dice that's has a few more faces may allow it to "roll" better. Either way, I can definitely see this scaling into something bigger.

Developer(+1)

Yeah a d20 would be an obvious choice to make it more ball like, but as you say that's a lot more effects. I like the d6 but I agree that it does need to roll a bit better. I'll have to look into how to fix that post-jam.

Thanks for the feedback :)
