The art is super clean and has a lot of character to it (in addition to the variety of character designs, ha), with a ton of neat historical details to pick out, and I love the setting and premise as a fan of ancient mythology. The limited color palette was both a smart production decision and an effective artistic one — I chuckled learning that our character's name is Sepia. I can't wait to see how you polish and improve an already solid experience!

Developer

Thank you for the nice comment. The monochrome look indeed turned out to be a good idea.

You really captured a unique setting here, very impressive how much detail you gave it, you feel like you're getting a little glimpse into their lives. I always like your entries, and this is no exception!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you very much.

I'm sure, as a powerhoof you appreciate some good chariot race...

Submitted

Great entry as always! The premise is fun and clever, the puzzles are plentiful, challenging and well designed (even though I got stuck on the sheep one and resorted to trial and error with the chariots), and I enjoyed the ancient Rome aesthetic (is the main character's name a reference to the color scheme? ;)). I also like how grounded and thorough your storytelling is - like how you take care to explain the extent of the god's powers, and generally make sure to patch up any potential inconsistencies and plot holes. Really enjoyed it overall, will be looking forward to your future games!

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
And yes, we kind of did a "guybrush" with our main character.^^ We first had a greyscale version of the character and when we added that sepia tone, we renamed the file "sepia". Later when thinking about a name for her, we thought this would be fitting. ;-)

Yet another great entry by The Argonauts. Great puzzles (I must confess I had to look up a walkthrough to get the hammer!), great art and a funny premise. A bit of music would have elevated it all.

Developer (1 edit)

We're planning on "elevating" later. But thank you for the nice comment anyway.

Great premise, built out with wonderful characters.  Top notch!

Developer

Thanks a lot. Glad you liked it.

your entries are always one of the best.
Clever puzzles, funny dialogue and good art.
Well done guys!

Thank you very much.

I really enjoyed this game, well done everyone involved. I particularly like the art style and the colour scheme.  Well written with a lovely balance of history and humour.

thank you for playing! I'm glad you liked it. :-)

I have finished to play your game! It was great! I loved the end, very funny 😄 The art is stunning, great animation in 2 weeks! I had small issues but nothing terrible (mainly because of me not thinking the good way, or not finding a small item).  Everything in the game was well put together and well thought. The puzzles, even if not perfect (because of the jam context) were really cool. The one with the charriot race would need an additional clue for people like me. The blueprint with the statue would benefit of a clue to say that we need to drag and drop the items on it. There are a few other tricky things such as the hammer to steal, some very small objets to find (pixel hunt)... But everything was logical, when you know the answer you just realise that it wasn't difficult (as usual!). Also I liked the fact that you found again a different gameplay element, like in each of your previous games. In the Druidic Adventure it was the possibility to switch the kids. Here it's the invisible god to call for help. I love it! It adds again something more to your creations. Keep up the great work and congrats for the release in time!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your kind words and your feedback, Simon. 🥰

We will add some signposting and a bunch of reactions for interactions after the voting period to make the gameplay a bit smoother. It definitly is a very rough and barebone experience right now - and that is really bugging me - but we will take care of that. :-)

Developer

And music. We will add more music.

fun to play, I really enjoyed the story. beautiful art style. impressive work.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you. Glad to hear you had fun.  :-)

Wonderful game, I especially enjoy it when it when authors manage to sneak some educational material into games, so you learn something against your will! ;-) Story was well crafted and very funny, puzzle difficulty just right, and artwork charming and beautiful, love the hand drawn esthetics! Congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Well, we researched at least some details, so I hope the things you've learned are somewhat correct.

As for the other things you said: Thank you, that's nice to hear.

Mirabile visu! As a longtime fan of the classics, especially Rome, this just delighted me. I love all the period details you put into the scenes, like the murals on the snack bar, the stepping stones on the street, etc. The hand-drawn art looks great and has so much character; I'm particularly happy that you did several hand-drawn animations. The gameplay really clinches that old-school adventure-game feel. Excellent work all around!

I'm having an issue with the chariot race results--I can't click or drag anything. Is this a WebGL issue, maybe?

Developer

Thank you for the nice words.

As for the chariot race: I assume you don't have all the info needed yet. Sepia should have said so, if she gathered it all. There need to be 5 clues on the sheet as well as 5 colored chariot icons on the right. If that is not the case, you missed some dialog or haven't found the list of participants. Once you have it, you can click on the chariot icons and place them in the right order on the left side.

Submitted

Oh, OK! It wasn't clear to me that you needed a certain number of clues before you could start attempting to solve the puzzle.

Developer

Yeah, there is a lack of helpful hints in parts of the game - due to a lack of time for development...

I love the hand painting aesthetic with those details, it seems very original to me.

The story and the setting are also very cool...

Congratulations for the work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much. We also think that ancient Italy is a great setting... :o)

Oops! 😅

Developer(+1)

Thank you, Vairon. Glad you liked it. ^^

Submitted(+1)

Really nice game. Feels like an interactive comic book. The setting is original, we can see the humour from the old-school SCUMM games. Super nice work, fits totally the jam.

Developer(+1)

Very much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Fantastic work. Absolutely loved the setting and the writing, and the art style is great as well.

Had to look up a couple of things, namely how to deal with the sheep and how to acquire the melon (someone uploaded a video of their full playthrough, thankfully), but other than that I can't think of any issues on my end.

Developer

Just like in our last year's submission, the game could indeed need some additional signposting now and then. But thank you for your kind words anyway.

Submitted(+1)

That's impressive :-) a really *great* game - congratulations

As I said on the other comments page: Grazie mille

(Okay, after Latin and Greek that is now the third language I pretend to speak, but have no clue of...)

this is absolutely brilliant! i loved the art style and the storyline - i had a little trouble with one puzzle but it had a kick-yourself obvious answer

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your nice comment. Glad to hear you liked it.

The art style in this is incredible. I love how it almost looks like a graphite drawing and overall it's so heavily stylized that it really makes the game unique and stand on its own. I loved the title music but was disappointed when there wasn't sound for the rest of the game. That being said though, I think the art and interesting concept more than makes up for that. Very well done and super impressive given the time limit especially!

Developer

We wish we had found some fitting background music in time for the deadline. The game is really pretty silent. We may add some more sound later - but not before the end of the voting phase however.

But it's nice to hear you liked the game nevertheless.

(1 edit) (+1)

Very much stuck right now, but an awesome game nonetheless!

UPD: or was, until it froze and won't open up again.  Also, no autosave in a game this kind is not a good idea.  Not replaying

Submitted(+1)

Wow, such a treat! Love the art style and theme.

But I don't hear any sound or music in-game (aside from wonderful music in main menu), is it a bug?

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Hey Ein, sadly music is missing in the game because of time constraints (and not finding appropriate music for the time the game plays in, when we did look for potential music), so in this case unfortunately it is not a bug :D. Thank you for your kind words. I'll check out your game later.
