This is such an interesting concept!!! I missed the window for rating but the control scheme for moving around easily gets five out of five stars for originality! I also really like the theme that emerges once the player gains a dance partner, mainly that dancing with someone means balancing how you move with the way someone else moves, and that being okay with not being 100 percent in control is what makes dancing with a partner both so terrifying and so exciting. Well done!

How does your game fit the theme?
In Vogue you need to join other dancers in order to complete the level. However, when you are together, they take over for some beats, resulting in interesting gameplay where you need to quickly adapt! Dancing together is more fun, specially when you mix your dance moves with the others.

This is a very intriguing game with a very original core concept. I loved the idea of moving on the beat and having to position myself so that the move would be helpful to me. I wished that there was some way to control what direction I move, because it seemed random and I would often get stuck in a position where I couldn't get to the next person. However, this is a minor issue in a very cool concept.
Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback! In theory the movement you get is not really random, it is the last dancer's move, but since I didn't polish the design and added more visual cues on what it's happening, it definitely can feel a bit random (for example, the dancers always move before the player, but it is not really shown and that can make the move you get seem counterintuitive). Hope you liked it still and I will for sure learn from this for the next time. Thank you so much!!! :D
Cool idea. The movement is a little chaotic, which I guess was your idea. Though it's hard to stay on top of everything, but I don't think there is anything obvious that can be done to fix it. Great
Really nice game idea! I love how this relates to the theme. I think a little bounce effect/grow-shrink effect to indicate which direction is going to be played would be neat, or a jump from tile to tile. Either way, this is really impressive amount of work and creativity for a 48 hour jam, great work!
I really like the aesthetic but I did find it pretty hard to move after joining with someone, maybe being able to tell more clearly what's the move you will be adding to the sequence when you join another person would help too? Really cool idea though, well done!
Hi, thank you so much for playing! Yes, some more visual feedback would be great, the indicator on the bottom is a bit subtle and I think I could have done more to indicate that it is the other dancer's last move that gets added to your queue. Definitely something to improve upon on another iteration. Thanksss and hope you enjoyed it still! :D
Cute idea, love the little dancers. The randomized dancing and quick pace makes some levels needlessly challenging. By the time I see which direction they move me I'm already in the pits. Setting the pace to the player but rewarding them for keeping tempo might be a nice alternative.
Thank you, I really appreciate you playing! :D The dancers' moves are actually a loop that repeats, but I agree that it is a bit too fast. There is an option to make it slower in the settings, but it kinda feels too fast or too slow right now. At least next time I will hopefully learn from this and balance it better. Thank you and hope you liked it still! :D
I love love love the pixel art here, and the color palette is awesome. The dancing characters are so cute. Moving on the beat is tricky, like Crypt of the Necrodancer. Well done!
Great idea! Pretty cool levels. I like graphics. A bit hard game for me xD, but it was fun to play! Thank you:)
The was fun, chaotic, and colorful. Just like a dance floor.
I like every game which moves to the beat, and you made a good hectic one.
Really enjoyed it, thank you!
Hey mate. Some feedback:
- The game runs too fast.
- I like the fact that the side you join with people changes the way they go, but that was quite hard to notice.
- After leaving the itch page to write some notes the game would just not accept input, so I had to restart the itch page.
Overall great concept, although a bit hard due to the speed of the game.
Hi, thank you so much for playing and your feedback!!
Yes, I think I made it a bit more difficult than I'd like, and after the jam I'd like to add more granular controls, but there is an option to reduce the game speed to x0.5 in the settings. It may be a bit too slow, that's why I want to add more fine control.
The feedback when a player joins another dancer is one of the main things I want to fix, because the comments I got overall said that it was tricky to get at first, so thank you so much for pointing that out, I'll try to make it better as well.
Lastly, I'm aware of the input bug, it is kind of completely my fault. I made the game with no engine and when I ported it to the web, I forgot to make the html canvas element selectable, so if you lose focus it can't be gained again. So sorry about that, it is a game breaking bug, but I noticed it after the submissions were closed. Thank you so much for taking the time to play and write such a complete review, hope you still enjoyed it!! :D
thanks for submitting to the form!
THE GOOD (what i liked, and what stood out for me):
The game had a unique mechanic and allowed for you to chain what seemed like a rage game into a nice little rhythm based package! The music was fun, the artstyle was nice and upbeat. The difficulty curve was lenient and difficult, allowing for the player to actually get a full feel for the mechanics without dying inside XD
THE BAD (what i disliked, the bugs, and other problems):
I feel like the game could have been better if there were more unique obstacles, such as moving platforms, or different songs for each level perhaps. Maybe you could include some more various people to connect to? such as ones that let you jump and move twice?
THE HARSH (stuff that would just make the game better, usually just personal opinion, don't take it too heavily :D ):
I think you should have a better indicator for when you make joins with people or when you die, maybe add some game juice, that would make the game feel more satisfying, which is something that players would want if they are stuck on a level.
OVERALL: 5,4,3 amazing game, great work!
I really love this concept. We need more dance themed games that aren't strictly music games. Gimme that rhythmic gameplay and add any other genre please! The simplistic graphics and music pair nicely and give the game a good vibe. Unfortunately, the controls are a little clunky. It's hard to tell which part of the beat I should be moving on and even when I think I've got it figured out, I often feel like it misses the mark. I'm not sure how to go about this, but probably more timing window and remove queued actions? Pressing the button off beat and having the character move after felt pretty unnatural.
This is a great little game and I'd love to see the idea polished more. Well done!
Wow thank you so much for such detailed feedback. The controls can definitely use a bit of polish, I tried to make it forgiving so that if you pressed off beat you move anyways, but it ended up backfiring and resulting in a bit of unpredictability and bad feeling sometimes. I'll have to revise it and balance it in the middle. Thank you for playing and writing such a great comment, hope you enjoyed it!! :D
Great idea, wished the rthym meter had more contrast though. i couldnt quite follow the tick its at.
Love the dancing theme fits so well with the gameplay and the theme!
(It warms our hearts to see you got inspired from "You are now possessed" <3
Hi, thank you for playing! You need to join all the dancers, but after you get one the last move they did gets added to the compass pattern. You can move freely on the beats that have a "-", but when a dancer adds a move, that beat you will move in that direction, so with more dancers you need to plan ahead. Please ask me if you need help with anything. There is also a setting for reducing the speed to half in case you need it! Again, thank you so much for playing and if you are willing to give it another go, hope you enjoy it :D
the concept of the game are amazing, thats a brilliant idea for representing the theme with following dance rhythm with the other dancers, also the artwork is nice, perfect!
Rhythm games are the best!! This was so much fun! It was funny discovering how the different dancers' movements interacted with your own and once you get that down it makes for a really fascinating rhythm and puzzle game! The artwork was also great and really cute and the music was well written and very funky!
