In what way does your game fit the theme?
This game is all about building a community and supporting its needs.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I made all the code and the assets (and what assets they are!) with the exception of the random name generator.

There's no goal to build toward, no sound effects to spice up the gameplay, and no reason to do anything at all. This looks like a very good base for a game, but it's just not fun just like this. This looks like a tech demo for something that could be done, but even the rooms sometimes bug out when placed. If this has pretty clean code, you can probably get something out of it by adding some graphics, sound effects, and an objective to get to, as well as some limitations.

Cool concept, but as others said it's missing some kind of objective, maybe limitations on how many things you can build and how many people you can add at once and I'd add some kind of overall indicator, other than the individual ones. I also found a bug, when you move the rooms that were already connected the door that it created don't disappear. But either way, this has potential. Good job!

This has so much potential! I love this so much for what it could be. Right now it feels like there is not really a good goal and there are not really any tradeoffs to doing anything. You should keep expanding on this. I think it could be an interesting spaceship-building game with the different modules you have to add, similar to 'FTL' if you could build the spaceship. Good job!

Developer(+1)

FTL was a big inspiration! I'd like to work towards developing the social relationships on the spaceship rather than adding combat.

It was a really cool concept. My major issue with it was that it would have been nicer if the instructions and what things you were placing down were all on a UI that you could see irrespective of where you are. Other than that it was really cool and it'd be nice to see it developed further.

Such a cool concept, if you wanted to add to it, you could add an objective, and some kind of limitation like resources or manpower :) Well done! It has so much potential!

Didnt really understand what to do :(

Very interesting concept, I had no idea what I was doing or why, but I liked watching all of the dots move around xD the screenshot showed green bars, but I didn't see any when I played (loaded, played and reloaded 3 times just to be sure it wasn't a faulty load), but I totally get not having quite enough time lol we had the same issue. One other minor thing, which kind of ties into the green bars, this is a really cool start for a game which I think I'd play a lot - kind of like My Colony - but it definitely needs more UI. I kept forgetting which numbers corresponded to which buildings and had like 10 extra museums sitting off to the side lol. Great work, all in all!

Thanks for playing!

I should have made more specific instructions, but I was up against the clock. If you click on a dot, the bars appear and show their need levels that determine where they go

Submitted(+1)

Oh!! Very cool :D I will play again and update my rating!

Developer

Thanks!

I really like the idea, I have always enjoyed playing games like that (for example prison architect). It is fun and calming to watch your little wayfarers wandering around :)

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm not sure if the game isn't fully loading for me or if it's just designed that way, but I don't see the green bars in the screenshot (food, sleep, inspiration, exercise, and social). Because of that, I'm mostly just filling up the map with rooms whose effects I don't really understand, and spawning people that afaict just wander aimlessly around. I think if you do come back to work on a full release, definitely put in a UI so players understand what they need to be doing and why.

Developer(+1)

I didn't add this to the instructions, but the bars appear when you click on a person

I always like seeing multi agent sim games. Nice programming, man. Although there isn't much you can do with it, and there's no progression, but it has potential to be something greater.

Yeah, 7 days is not much time to implement a super complicated code infrastructure for such a sim game.

Developer

Thanks! I'm looking forward to refactoring and building out more complex social interactions. Things got pretty hacky towards the end.

Submitted(+1)

great game, i would love to see this concept explored more

Submitted(+1)

Interesting idea for a game.

Submitted(+1)

Clearly there's some complicated interactions going on, but it's hard to see what. Would definitely look good with some graphics, but yeah game jam deadlines are rough, haha. 😛 Good job!

I'm really amazed with what you did here :0

I'm not too into simulator games but I had fun seeing the little people moving inside the rooms and I'm wondering how did you do that

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you were able to get into it!

The base of a great idea is here but without any limitations or progression its hard to stay engaged - would be great to see challenges or limitations placed on what you can build or some sort of progression as you fulfil peoples needs, and I feel a more intuitive block placement system would be welcome, having all 5 available to pick rather than selecting through them with the number keys.

Developer

I see what you mean. My plan was to reward the player with more rooms and people rather than exposing the spawn system directly. Seven days isn't a lot of time!

Submitted(+1)

It really isn't a lot is it :P

If you ever decide to expand this further in future, good luck with it :)

Submitted

Looks lie a simulation ^^ are there any goals aside of have fun?

Developer(+1)

Nope! Just fun!

Submitted(+1)

Fair enough :D

Submitted

Honestly, with just a bit more tinkering on the assets this already feels like such a legit simulation game! I'm really curious how you made all the little people travel around all the rooms I make for them.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I thought I had one more day for the assets 🤣. Once the people have filled up the need for the room they're in, they pick their most urgent needs, consider the distance required to fill those needs, then pick one probabilistically. I used A* to generate a list of positions, then the person's position is updated along that path in the Update function.

Oooooh thank you for the tips! Definitely going to experiment with this type of game one day.

Rez Graham has given some really interesting talks on this if you need a place to start.
