The music and sounds are excellent for this game. On day 4 as I was leisurely doing my first lock noticing the music pick up a tiny bit freaked me the hell out. I ended up passing with 6 seconds to spare and certainly a newfound anxiety lol! I love the visual style and all the different minigames. Not to mention the dialogues with the neighbor and overarching story. Great work with this game!
Fun mix of wario-ware gameplay with point and click horror. Engaging style. The mouse controls for the mini-games was panic-inducing; It's a great pairing with the escape-the-room styled navigation. Good job.
From the reverse-talking characters and art style, I can tell this was heavily inspired by the “Cube Escape” series by Rusty Lake. I love escape room games so I had fun with this. Gameplay is a little jank, but it makes sense since there are so many minigames. Having separate visual scenes for each minigame instead of the typical “click this item onto this” really elevated the gameplay. The main issue I had was whenever I died and the game restarted, I would be stuck in the first level. All in all however, great job on this game!
I have never heard of cube escape. I'll have to check it out sometime.
The real Inspirations I had were the Don't escape games mainly 1, Warioware, the base sit and stay alive idea of FNaF, and a little bit of energy from Junji Ito brand of psychology horror. (Not sure how much that last one can be seen in the game itself but it's what I was thinking of when I had the idea and all.)
Also yeah, the game is a tad janky, I know.. I'm an artist first and learned programmer to make games so I've never been the best at it. That bug with the game not resetting right has been.. Well bugging me, I plan to work on the game more after voting is done, I tell you, that's going to have the FIRST thing that gets done.
So yeah, I'm glad you enjoyed it, thank you.
Neat little game, reminded me of warioware :3I like the artstyle, messyand cartoonish, but very soulful (edit: I thought soulful meant "with a soul", not sorrowful LOL)
The actual minigames could do with a little more explanation, especially the keychain one, and there are some bugs, but overall, I liked it!
Wow thank you.
Yeah, player communication is one of the game's weaknesses.. That's due to the fact I forgot to playtest and had to quickly make a 1.1 patch the the day after it first came out.. the keychain just sort of slipped past the cracks I guess. Whatever it's worth I already have plans on how to make it better and smoother and all that good junk.
A delightfully unsettling minigame collection! Kinda gave me Psychonauts vibes. I will say some interactions aren't explained very well (e.g. using the key in the lock), but the slowness of the various actions adds a lovely layer of tension!
Well done! I really like the visuals, the interaction and the puzzles are nice. I liked how it gets increasingly tense as the monster approaches, ahah got my nerves on high :)
Here's my playthrough of your game! It's at the 7:29 mark of this video.
A bit janky, but it was very fun. And its not often that you find a horror game that actually uses color. I did find the character voices a bit annoying. The sounds were very disparate.
I'm glad you enjoyed. I plan to work on it a bit more after voting is done, see if I can make it any less janky.
Also yeah, character voices like that have a weakness for easily becoming annoying if you listen to them for too long at once I find, they work best in with some in-between, or just general sparing use.
I was thinking about testing a different system where it only plays like.. 5 sounds then stops or something. Failing that I still want to do something to them.
I think the game is broken. I was able to drag the latch/tongue and secure the door as soon as the game started! I didn't need a key, which wasn't clickable anyway. I liked the art and and the music of the game. They complemented each other.
I also wish you'd used Wick Editor or Ren'Py instead of Godot. Godot is a wonderful game engine, but for small game jams, you're better off with frameworks or browser editors. Check out my game when you get a chance. All the best.
Very fun game! The escalating music really make you feel anxious as the number of tasks increase each day. I reached day 7 where I can only drag 3 of the 4 pennies required, so I'm forced to lose :| But still, really fun little game with funny dialogue!
Thank you.
Sorry about the pennies, I'll have to see what I can do about that..
They're a bit off as part of a bigger program, called using Godot's built in physics.
I wanted to swap to jolt in hopes it would help with that, but I couldn't find it for download, I am guessing due to it being built in on newer builds now, oh well.
That was a tense game, with a nice story to go along with it! If there's one thing to remember, it is to never look at the door while the figure is approaching. Because if you do, then not only will you panic more, but you'll waste time doing so. Fantastic jam entry!
I really enjoyed the panic your game created! I found myself completing days with just a few seconds to spare each time. I also really liked the art style and the sampled speech for your characters. In the key and pig puzzles, I thought I needed to click to do something at first which confused me some but I eventually figured it out. Might be worth some more on-screen instructions for those but otherwise great game!
I LOVED THIS! So fun! gameplay, art, style, music, sounds, dialogue, were all top notch! Thanks for making this it was a pleasure to play it
It’s a game with a simple concept, yet it creates a great sense of tension while playing. The later days were really intense! The variety of mini-games also made the gameplay feel fresh and fun.
It's nice horror game! I like the feeling of fear as people approach.
I really like this art style and music. The game is also quite fun to play—it reminded me of WarioWare.
The presentation is really good on this one :) The puzzles/minigames are interesting but was really confused by the flaccid key one.. Then suddenly it changed to another key? A checkpoint/level restart would be appreciated since its a bit rough having to restart each time!
Also got a glitch where day 2 lock slide would not vanish from day 1 when rushing the dialogue xD
Really nice work though :)
I called the minigame you're thinking of "ring" during dev time but "flaccid key" is honestly a much better name.
Yeah, that one is unclear as is.. I wanted to add more impact or something, anything to gave the idea you were looking at 30 different keys and looking for the one good one, but it just got away from me and now its just a spinning wheel on one side and a still PNG on the other.
One thing that'll need some work later down the road.
Just to inform, you press W when it's on the "good key", which is just the different straight facing one.
Quite sorry about having to reset, it was last minute try at a bug fix that didn't work out so good.
Although I don't quite know how I feel about check points, if it was a slower boil like a full mouth of 30 days or some junk I'd be for it. It's meant to be a little hard. Then again again I can see how resetting is more in the camp of "sod the player" hard then fair challenge hard.
Whatever the case, happy to hear you liked it even with all that, thanks. :)
I think you always got to be careful with murdering the player and forcing them to do stuff again. t can spoil them on the previous stuff they have done. Like consider a souls game, renowned for their difficulty but once you conquer the level before the boss they usually give you a few shortcuts to get back to the boss more easily. If a player has already conquered one part its annoying to have to do it again multiple times!
I love hector, such a cool guy.
The game was quite fun with all the little minigames and how twisted everything looked, really surreal and cool experience, I really fw the vibe of this game.
I lost cause I found the good key and didn't know I had to press W to get it? Which was a lil annoying and kinda frustrating. Also I was in the key scene and there didn't seem to be any jumpscares and I did not see what banging on that door, I really like how more tense the music becomes, really cool detail.
The game did not work again after I restared and skipped all the dialogue fast...
Really cool game!
You should also play and rate my game roughneck, it will change your life and you will get 1 milion dollars in 2 weeks!
Play and rate to affirm 1 milion dollars in 2 weeks!
Thank you for the game! I've encountered several bugs while playing (the most annoying one was the game not working properly after a restart), but I enjoyed the creativity and funky visual style. Music was also really enjoyable. I liked how it gets increasingly tense as the monster approaches.
Good job, I hope you will take the time to improve the technical side of the game, it definitely deserves some love!
Yeeeah, never been the best programmer..
I thought I delt with most the major ones in that v1.1 patch but I have learned indeed, I did not.. Still buggy.
I am hoping to sometime after the jam work on it a bit more just for polish but clearly I need to if only to make it work good.
Glad you like it.
This game is "cursed" but in the best sense. In my mind Hector is just extremely unwell and paranoid. He needs help which makes this also pretty sad. The visuals communicate this insanity through their whimsical nature. The sounds of the characters are also pretty demented. Overall I enjoyed this experience greatly and its horror factor is not to be underestimated.
