Nice game, very good idea. just a couple of things:
The game does not have a perfect fit with the theme, it is saved only by the changing of player dimensions. music should not reset everytime you restart the level. Finally in my very personal opinion keys should not be counted as "fuel to jump" nothing wrong with your take, i just find it adds a bit of usless complexity, having to check for the order of the objects taken that, most of the times, is a bit random.

Other than this, the game's scope is perfectly sized for a jam, the artstyle is a bit simple but it works, the gameplay idea is also very good, extra points for the originality! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Overall: good, straight to the point and interesting entry; well done! ๐Ÿ‘

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it, thanks for the feedback! On your point about the keys - I they are pretty core to the puzzle element. They affect the playerโ€™s size, you can throw them, and also use them to launch. What do you think about the player being able to choose which item they launch next? I considered adding this feature and I thought it might address your issue while still keeping the puzzles the same.

Submitted

Yes! I think that is a way to fix it for me, though remember that mine is a personal critique and not an objective truth, make this change only if you agree yourself  ;)

Submitted(+1)

Really great game ! Nothing to say, expect maybe add a little curve to help understand the mechanics :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yes good call, Iโ€™ll keep that in mind for next time.

This was a really cool game, one of the best I've played so far, and I only have two critiques. One is that if you have to restart frequently, the music restarting as well can get really annoying as you hear the same notes over and over. The other is a visual indicator that shows where the player will go after launching (like a curved/dotted line the width of the player) would help a lot, as I often had to restart because I'd slightly clip an edge that I thought I'd miss.

Developer

Glad you liked the game! Youโ€™re right it probably makes sense to keep the music playing when the level restarts. And yes the launch indicator was a highly requested feature. Appreciate the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

This was really fun. I thought the music fitted really well, and the aesthetics were great. I like how you made the levels out of pentagons (obviously, lol), but it looks so sleek and works really well. The level design is great, you turned such a simple concept into a puzzle game by introducing size changing, order of usage and keys! Overall I thought this was really amazing, Gg!

Developer

Thanks for playing, so glad you liked it! Yeah, building the levels out of pentagons ended up working perfectly with the concept of the game. Nice when things work out like that

Wow, this game was so captivating from the very start. Everything is all round amazing. I had such a blast playing this game! The music is super fitting, the physics feel just like I want them to, and the level design is just absolutely fantastic. You absolutely nailed the difficulty curve for the 8 levels. Sometimes, when I play puzzle games, I tend to get very frustrated when I reach the higher difficulty levels, because I can't figure out what the game wants me to do. But anytime I got anything wrong in this game, I knew exactly what I did wrong and how I would fix it on my next go. The final level was such an awesome culmination of all the mechanics that have been introduced along the way and ended up being a really enjoyable challenge! This is definitely my favourite entry of the jam so far! Good work TripleJ (edit: This game really gave me a hunger to speedrun it really fast haha)

Developer

So glad you liked it! Iโ€™m really happy the puzzles turned out fun and not frustrating. Thanks for the feedback!

Oh my goodness. This is now my favorite entry. Clever design, brilliant level design. Overall graphics is clean. Sounds good, music = ๐Ÿ˜Ž. I completed all 8 level, that last one really got me thinking and I need more levels. Perfectly playable in mobile too. Well done.

Developer(+1)

So glad you liked it! I didn't even realize it worked well on mobile lol. I updated the game page to say it's mobile friendly. Thanks for your feedback!

Oh, this is a winner! It's a really cool puzzle game! The jazz music is a good fit too. I actively went through all levels (7?) and your design of them was very creative. Damn! Leave some rating stars for the rest of us! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

Developer

Haha thanks so much, glad you liked it!

Pretty cool idea. I like how you introduce quirks right on level 3 with the dropping of the ball. I liked the idea a lot but I found the restart system a little unforgiving. It would be cool to allow to undo only the last shot (or one shot at a time) instead of going back to the very beginning in some of the most involved levels. I would had liked a little more of the โ€œlimited spaceโ€ theme but still very enjoyable and a great submission.

Developer

Thanks for playing! That's an interesting idea to undo the last shot - I didn't think about that. I tried to make all the levels short enough where a full restart wouldn't be too bad, but I agree it would make the game more forgiving. Thanks for the feedback!

Incredibly fun game! the movement felt very dynamic and the level design was amazing!

decided to try to speedrun this game and got a ~1:12 time

Developer(+1)

Wow this is awesome! The skips you did on level 6 and 7 were so cool, I didnโ€™t know that was possible. I had a feeling some players would be able to mess around with the physics system haha. Thanks for sharing!

Very engaging, innovative, and unique game concept! The way you designed the puzzles was really exciting, and it made me want to try all the levels without losing engagement. Every time, a new challenge was introduced, even though the basic mechanics stayed the same. Great job!

The learning curve was well implemented here. I never felt unprepared for the current level's challenge, but at the same time, it didnโ€™t feel like it was the same or easier than the previous one — it was just subtly more difficult, in the perfect amount.

The sounds and sound effects really enhanced the experience, and the animation when you reach the goal or collect several boost balls was a nice touch. Despite the small issue mentioned earlier (which actually happened to me a few times too), the experience wasn't heavily impacted — only slightly noticeable when using the red pentagon, but nothing critical.

The fact that the game restarts after completion felt a bit odd, but I assume it was due to time constraints. Honestly, Iโ€™ve done that myself a few times, so it's not a big deal (especially since by that point, the player is already near the end, so no complaints on that front).

There are just two things Iโ€™d say would make the gameplay even more engaging: First, adding a direction indicator in the form of a "line of balls" to give players better control over direction/angle. The second would be a ball bar that fills and empties as you hold down the mouse button — this would show how much force the ball will be launched with.

Congrats on the game, it's fantastic. Fun and original puzzles! Wishing you success and good luck in the jam!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I'm happy that the level design and sound design came across well! Good call about adding direction / force indicators - I think that would give the player much more control.

What a brilliant puzzle game, excellent entry!! Level 3 was such a cool puzzle moment, when you have to spit the ball ahead of you while jumping back in order to be small enough to fit the gap. A genuine aha moment that the puzzle genre is built upon, kudos. The mechanic of getting jumps but also growing in size until you jump is very novel and fits the theme perfectly, really well done. There's lots of great bits of polish/design, such as halting momentum when you start a new jump, the trumpet sfx when you beat the game, the slow-mo transition when you reach the pentagon. It's awesome. The only critique is that the art style is a bit "meh". It works, it conveys the needed information, it works in service of the game, but it doesn't really have any effect on me as a player. It's tough with the limited shapes but a little more personality I think would have taken it to the next level. Really fun game with a great level of polish, one of the best entries in the jam for sure imo! Great work!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, so glad you liked it! Art is definitely the most challenging part of game dev for me, so I'm excited to get better at it for the next jam. Really appreciate the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

One of the most fun games in the jam! The idea behind the movement is obvious instantly, the first two levels introduce everything you need to know, and then it's fun time! And I gotta say- it's really good fun! The puzzles never feel too difficult, but the solutions aren't always obvious. Sometimes I experimented with a couple, before finding the good one. Gameplay really clicked with me.

One thing (with no effect on the score). I thought it was a bit of a strange choice, that in the end the game restarts. I would have gone with some "you win" screen.

Presentation is "minimalism done well", which, for a jam with just two shapes allowed is good :) The outlines and colors really work. Music and sounds also fit the game really well.

The use of the theme is not on par of the rest of the game. Yeah, I guess the levels are a limited space, and sometimes player has to change the size to fit, but I feel that the theme could be explored more.

There is only one really serious problem with this game. It's so good, I'd like to play more than seven or eight levels :) But seriously, I had great fun!

Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thanks so much for your detailed feedback! It's a great idea to have explored the theme a bit more, I would've loved to add an extra mechanic around it. Also note to self to add a more exciting win screen next time haha. So glad you liked the game!

Very clever and original.

Developer

Thank you!

Your game is a highly original and polished game that uses only the allowed shapes in a clever way, with fun game play, well-paced levels, and fitting music. Aside from a very minor clipping issue, everything works smoothly, and the theme is perfectly integrated. Here is what I thought regarding the different categories:

Game play / Fun / Engagement โ—โ—โ—โ—โ—
The game play feels polished and engaging from start to finish. I really like the originality of the idea and how well itโ€™s executed. Moving through levels always feels rewarding! The level difficulty is paced nicely, keeping things fun and challenging without being frustrating. Sometimes orbs can be lost or clip through pentagons, but this is only a minor issue and not worth subtracting points.

Art Style / Visuals โ—โ—โ—โ—โ—
The visual design is consistent and makes excellent use of the limited shapes constraint. Using only circles and pentagons works surprisingly well here, and it gives the game a unique and recognizable style. The art is clean and supports the game play without distraction.

Audio / Sound Design โ—โ—โ—โ—โ—
The audio fits the game perfectly. The background music keeps the flow going, and I especially liked the trumpet sound when reaching the goal and the SFX kinda adding up when collecting orbs in a row.

Theme โ—โ—โ—โ—โ—
The theme is interpreted very well. The ball always has limited space to move within, which makes the constraint feel essential to the game play. The game feels designed fully around this idea! Really nice work done.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your detailed feedback! I'm glad you liked the game and noticed the design choices I made around the gameplay and sound design. Sorry you ran into the clipping bug, I was fighting with the physics system but couldn't get it fully fixed before submission.

Still very good game and just a minor issue!

Looool thank you

I usually stay far away from puzzle games, but this one really made me smile all the way through! I wanted to take screenshot of completion at the end, because i can rarely complete any puzzle game but it cut to the start screen shortly :D

Great implementation of the theme and really fun and clever mechanics which were gradually introduced as the levels progressed. I think what i like and appreciate the most is the level of difficulty which was perfect for me, had the right amount of challenge to keep me engaged, but not too challenging that i gave up! Really well done on that. Music and art also fit the gameplay overall.

Great job, congrats on this :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for your kind feedback! I tried make it so the player was slowly learning more mechanics and had all the tools they needed to beat the level. Next time I'll make the win screen longer so you can bask in accomplishment :)

Submitted(+1)

Very fun! I liked that you freeze when aiming; that felt like a nice mechanic.

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it!

Amazing mechanic, great sounds and fun gameplay
You are a great developer

Developer

Thanks so much!

Submitted(+1)

Now that's a great and unique mechanic you got there! Very good job. It was really really fun to play and your level design skills are excellent. It's one of those mechanics that is easy to learn but hard to master. It felt like a puzzle plattformer with nice and fluid movement.

Nothing much to add besides good job :)

Developer

Thanks! It was my first time making a puzzle game so glad the levels turned out fun!

Submitted(+1)

Super fun small puzzle game, very unique with sizing the ball with each orb you collect. I had hard times with the last 2 levels. Def the last one was very tricky but I got it!! I beat your game.

Art style very simple and music and sounds are fitting for the theme you went.

One improvement would be like a sort of guideline where your ball is gonna go when you shoot it. Cause now I just had to predict where it would land.

Developer

Thanks, so glad you liked it! I considered adding a launch trajectory but thought it might be too hard to implement during the jam. Great callout though, I got the same feedback from some of my friends who play tested.

Submitted

fair point it can be hard if you don't have much time, I tried it once it was actually not that hard but it wasn't correct. So yea completlly understanable reason.
