Hey good work!
You get 136 rank!
I get 1500     0_0.....

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yeah, I'm very happy with that!

1500 because of the low number of ratings. Your score was adjusted down from 2.786 to 2.2. At 2.786, you're tied with GeoVortex, Pidle and The Biscuit Burrower for 1090th :) https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-14/results?page=55

Hey wait!
why this happening?
I get negative but they don't!

Developer(+1)

There's a thread on it here https://itch.io/t/644401/calculated-ratings-for-jams-vs-raw-scores

Basically, in any itch.io game jam, you'll be penalized if you don't receive the median number of ratings . You can find the median on the results page here https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-14/results and you see the number of ratings for your game on your page.

From that post "The formula for jam ratings is adjustment = sqrt(min(median, votes_received) / median)"

0.79772403521746564185512620976512 = sqrt (7 / 11)

2.786 * 0.79772403521746564185512620976512 = 2.22 (your final score)

There's a rich, complex ruleset implemented in this game, and the prohibition-era setting is very delightful. It takes a few rounds to get a feel for the dynamic of the game, and though I executed a few combos, the "event" system still eluded my grasp. Thankfully, the game is fairly forgiving, so playing until the end is a mellow experience. My two cents is to stagger some game mechanics until later rounds, and easing the players into the rules. Props for tackling such a difficult genre!

Great game! Despite not realizing exactly how the game worked until near the end (it was only the border card text mechanic that missed),I really enjoyed the experience. I would say the rules are something that you learn more than you can easily read, so the tutorial could've been a bit better, but that probably would've taken a while, and the tutorial worked well for what it was. The main gameplay loop was quite fun, making sure your heat didn't get too high whilst trying to get the dough was very engaging. The sound effects were crisp, nice work on those! The music was a bit repetitive, but I thought it was pretty alright. The theming is really good, quite a unique timeframe to choose. Nice work!

This was really good! Learning the rules didn't feel overwhelming, and the art and music were pretty good. I liked the overall aesthetic and time period you tried to capture. I think the gameplay didn't offer the player enough meaningful decisions, but it was still enjoyable, and I had to play through multiple times because I kept risking it with the 5 heat levels LOL.

That was good.  Everything worked as expected.  Easier once you get all the rules down.  Only complaint is the music.  Very repetitive and not representative of the era.  Some time ago I was working on a prototype game set in the 1920's and I found a ton of music that's in the public domain.  If you expand upon this, definitely Search for some.  Aside form that, very solid experience that could easily be continued.  Good job!

Moving the cards and overall game play was smooth, the music and sound effects were relaxing.  I guess the risk it was the heat danger!  good job

Overall pretty fun!

Of course the music needs a tiny bit of work but the sound was JUICY. I really loved moving around cards. Although I was really confused at the start even with a tutorial. I think this game would benefit hugely with an interactive one but it still works!

I made it to the end relatively easily without upgrades entirely. Maybe that was just me but I LOVED the bonuses. Really interesting way to tie everything together. Coding it must have been reallyyyy fun.

However, one thing I did notice was the lack of an impression of a theme to me. I probably just missed it but I genuinely had no idea. I just thought it was a fun strategy game that required some thinking! The progression was also awesome! Even though I didn't find the need to get upgrades, it's the small things that make the game unique and interesting.

Not my kind of game but it's polished and well executed. Amazing job!

Not really my type of game, but I have to say the explanation and the little guide you included were really helpful. I love that it stays on screen the whole time, since I sometimes forget certain rules—like when the police raid happens (oh right, when the heat gets high 😅).

As for the gameplay, I’m not sure if there’s supposed to be a win screen. I kept playing and the choices just restarted—I managed to go through about a column and a half. It’s definitely hard, but in a good way. Dragging cards and hoping for the best was really fun, since it forces you to make money while being careful about the heat.

The upgrade system is really cool, but I personally didn’t go down that path. It felt a bit complicated for me, and I didn’t notice much of an effect on my gameplay. Let me know if I’m playing it correctly, or if there’s a better way to use it so I can experience the game fully. (As I mentioned, I don’t usually play this type of game, so I’m probably just bad at it 😅).

Overall, everything was explained clearly and played smoothly, even though I couldn’t beat it. Great submission!

full stars from me! 👌

Cool cards mechanics, fun game :)

Very cool! Matching the same sides to unlock additional card effects is a smart idea that allows for quite interesting play, especially when you also have negative sides. I think it would be a little bit more engaging if there were more matches, as right now they are rare and I could always avoid them.

The overall theme choice and music are top tier!

One more thing: asking to press any button to continue breaks the flow a bit because you can play only with your mouse otherwise.

Great game! Love the visuals, and this has to be one of the most original ideas I've seen yet. I like the level tree that lets you pick what you want to do, and I had fun playing. Managed to finish the game on my second try. The only thing is that it might be too easy, as I didn't really feel the need to get many upgrades. However, I did have a close call on my second run, so maybe I just got a bit lucky. Great game.

Really fun game! It has a lot of potential and I'd love to play more of it in the future. Nice job!

That's my favourite out of all the games I have played for this jam yet! Amazing work!

Submitted(+1)

It takes a little time to understand the strategy! But once you get the hang of it, it's a fun and enjoyable game. I'd love to see a longer version!

Submitted(+1)

Really enjoyed that, so addictive!

Hope to see more in the future!

You got a real good balance of complexity here, I’m gonna be replaying this one.
