Congratulations on 10 years of making games! I've played a few of them over the years in different Jams. The first of your games I played was during my first jam, Ludum Dare 44.

I haven't seen the original version of this. Maybe you could upload that too or post a link to the project for comparison? This one has that juice and voiced parts (!) that I've come to appreciate from your games. The mood is set. Nice and goofy.

There's a thread on it here https://itch.io/t/644401/calculated-ratings-for-jams-vs-raw-scores

Basically, in any itch.io game jam, you'll be penalized if you don't receive the median number of ratings . You can find the median on the results page here https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-14/results and you see the number of ratings for your game on your page.

From that post "The formula for jam ratings is adjustment = sqrt(min(median, votes_received) / median)"

0.79772403521746564185512620976512 = sqrt (7 / 11)

2.786 * 0.79772403521746564185512620976512 = 2.22 (your final score)

(1 edit)

Yeah, I'm very happy with that!

1500 because of the low number of ratings. Your score was adjusted down from 2.786 to 2.2. At 2.786, you're tied with GeoVortex, Pidle and The Biscuit Burrower for 1090th :) https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-14/results?page=55

Short, but fun. The one level is really well done, and one great level is certainly better than a bunch of mediocre ones. The jumps feel well-tuned and there's some replayability to get more cheese, or the cookie if you played it safe. The purple/orange checkered texture kept things nice and clean, without distractions.

Your intro / thumbnail is so entertaining.

I'll play+rate+feedback yours within the next few hours. Looks silly.

I made a short roguelike card game. It's sitting at 19 reviews :)

Cute story. The gravity switching made for some interesting puzzle solving and platforming. The levels were interesting to puzzle out and explore. Lazer puzzles were fun. I really liked the rounds where I needed clear 100+ just by pressing a button. The fun and easy game is refreshing between the more challenging puzzles.

The purple blob look was used for a few things, some safe, some dangerous, some to block an exit. They only looked subtly different and I assumed their effects would be similar. I think they should look more different from each other. In other case, you had something spiky that was obviously dangerous, lazers looked like light, wood looked like barriers. I really needed to test the blobs to guess what they did.

Love your theme interpretation. The hand drawn art is really cute. It has so much character. Definitely true for the tutorial.

The music's super playful. It goes really well with the tone of the game. Great music transition when the neighbour wakes up.

I love the cookie munching transition! The platforming is fun. I like how far and high he jumps. Good variety of obstacles and tools (the trampoline is great). The levels are well thought out. Too bad there are so few of them. Nice looking too.

The level looks great and is fun to explore. It's really funny to take the townspeople's stuff. The battle song does a good job feeling the danger.

Reading comments below, I agree that the game would be improved if there were objectives, like "get a wheel of cheese".

I liked all the exploration available. Searching for money, upgrades and gambling. Lots of stuff to do. By the instructions, I thought they'd be overwhelming, but that wasn't the case when I was playing.

In some cases, there were a lot of things in a level that were distractions. Jaffa looked like I'd be spending hours looking for the stuff, but everything I needed was near the beginning

I found the digestif round to be by far the most difficult.  It's the only one I couldn't finish. Hobnobs, I like that you get to see the goal from the start, then there's virtually unlimited ammo. It's pretty rewarding after the chaos in the previous levels.

I enjoyed the times when I could get one ball to do a few things, like collect boxes, move platforms a few steps further, etc.

All the assets from scratch? This looks great. The music's great too.

The upgrades are all meaningful and by the end, it was armageddon all around me. I could play this for hours. It's super fun. The amount of effects on the screen reminded me of Vampire Survivors, where by the end, it's pure mayhem. This game really hits that note.

I'd appreciate some kind of list of effects, since many of them aren't visible. Stuff like the speed buffs, how much extra time, attack speed, etc. I also need to be reminded when I have an effect that depends on killing 2 consecutive, etc., etc. It's still armageddon, but why is it armageddon ? :D

I sometimes got lost. Having some indicator for where the nest is would help. A different color, some hive stuff on the ground, an arrow, etc.

The queen's hillarious. Also, her upgrades are the funnest, since they give unique effects that change the gameplay. My personal favorites are the ones that spread the bullets.

This was really fun.

I must get those recipes. Need to step away now. I'll play it when I get the chance (within 24h, I promise).

ha! Just encouraging those in my boat. Looks fun, I'll give it a try!

I need some reviews, and I know some of you do too. I play all games that appear in my comments (no mater their number of ratings :). If you have less than 20 ratings, play+rate+feedback mine and I'll leave play+rate+feedback yours too.

Mine's Heat, a short rogue-like card game. I hope you enjoy it.

Left some feedback. Mine is a short roguelike cardgame. https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-14/rate/3850806

Really enjoyed the room-by-room. There a sense of urgency from the timer and excitement to see what's on the other side. It's paced well. The player can't hesitate too much, but there's a little time to consider options. I found I needed a strategy before starting to make the decisions quickly.

The intro room gives a lot of information all at once. I left it understanding that there's a safe door, a risky door, and I'll gain some, double, or lose all my biscuits. It's a nice moody room to start in. I appreciate that you can see screens reflected in each other.

It wasn't immediately obvious that I was trying to meet a quota in a set amount of time. That's information that I gained from entering the room, and I felt rushed, so I only read it after a few rounds.

The red=bad vs green=good scheme does a lot of work. It immediately signals that something went right or wrong, which was really good, since I was whizzing through the rooms.

Fun short game.

Really cool game. The level is so atmospheric. It reminds me of The Witness. The core mechanic is fun and challenging. Well executed. Great game. I think I got them all?

There's some funny dialogue in there "It's not like he'll start selling body parts down here, at least". It's well written in general. It's totally worth going to every character, wall, stuffed animal to click around.

I died fighting. It'd be nice if the opponent's health was displayed, since I couldn't tell how I was doing.

Had fun. Nicely done.

Played this one for real this time. It's really fun. I appreciate the voiced messages, they really give the game character. The minigames are all great and very different. They're easy to pick up and not too long. I like how as the difficulty ramps up, new elements are being added, not just more of the same or shorter time.

I think dip the biscuit is my favorite.

I can play+rate+feedback your game in a few hours, and I'd love it if you played mine too.

Yours looks really interesting btw. I'm a sucker for a good puzzle.

I can play your game in a few hours, and I'd be pleased if you played and rated mine.

It's a slow grind. On my best run, I made it to 13 bandits, camp lv5, barracks lv10. Getting only money and food wasn't enough at that point. I think I forgot to feed them at the end, since it restarted.

I like the progression. Balancing gold, wood, food to progress made for some interesting choices. The values come in too slowly though. I think I'd have to be pretty lucky to win (or I missed something important).

As Cheep mentioned, some indication for what things cost would go a long way.

I did, whoops. Thanks for letting me know.

Nice use of the music. The parrying was fun. It was challenging but doable. It must have taken a dozen tries to beat it.

+1 for a restart button. Having to reload wasn't ideal.

Nice bunch of levels. Between the big jumps and the music, it feels very Mario. The jumping feels pretty good. On the start of dodge'n'fly, that purple spinning thing is cruel. I get by maybe 1/5 tries. I guess it's better than being dunked at the end. Since it and lucky road are timed, starting over seems like a big setback in those matches. It's on the difficult side for me, but I had fun trying.

Nice looking pixel art. The music gives a nice sense of suspense. Survived 15 rounds with nothing left.

I like the animations. The menu is fun to flip through. I played around with it a bunch.  It's a nice way to present a legend. The monochromatic colors pulls it all together. It's fun for a few rounds. Would be a fun minigame.

It's so funny to watch my chosen cookie run laps vs other cookies and to be on the edge of my seat cheering for my wafer. Placing the obstacles was pretty entertaining too. They usually worked when I needed it. I like all the little choices to be made.

Wow this is difficult. So much falling. The grapple and swing work so well together. The movement's fluid. Bouncing on walls is pretty fun. I like the clean look, since there are no distractions.. just a cat that will just keep trying to grapple up. Nicely done.

The level was nicely laid out with some tricky jumps in there. It was satisfying to make the jumps. Nice bunch of collectables to aim for I tried to get them all. No biscuit or spatula left behind. The cookie jar taking care of the cookies is pretty funny.

There are a few places where the platform will melt when I get near, but before I jump on them, and when they're gone, there's no way up. Those situations were frustrating, since I understood that I had one chance to jump up, but I didn't get the opportunity to try it.

It's a tough one. Highest I could get was 62. I felt the scoring was on the difficult side. Giving up gave up a lot of points considering I'd only get a few for a win. 200 points seems out of reach.

Controls were intuitive. It was fun to stare at the board, wondering where that purple actually went. Randomization is a factor, but there's a lot of information for educated guesses. Solid game.

Green biscuit in the sky ponzi scheme, I love it! Fun puzzly game. Nailed the ponzi scheme gameplay. It's challenging and increasingly I spent time considering my next move. The instructions from the game page were all I needed to play. The auto-layout is really good and it makes for a nice-looking board.

I think you can edit that info under the title. The button is "Edit this submission"

Great title. The game cracks me up. It's a fun quick game. I thought it was easy, then lost at round 10. Should have walked.

It's a really cute game with sweet music. I like the simple left click to select, right click to move. It's simple and fun to control the ants. It was fun to watch the ants go, it felt like a trail of ants. It was intuitive that bigger food items would need more ants, but an indicator for how many ants were needed would make it clearer. Nicely laid out level too.

Love that you two swapped roles for this. That's a fun challenge.

This is impressive. The writing looks right. The scoring feels accurate. I read that you used a package, but impressive that it was used effectively in a jam.

The game is sweet and relaxing. It was a pleasure to play.  It could use a free drawing mode for sharing funny screenshots.

I love how this looks! The specks of colour make give the game so much personality. Through the floor, there's some kind of water.. looks great!

I like how the tutorial interacts with the player like a todo list. Great presentation. Though I still needed to reference the game page about specifically what Q and E did.

The gameplay itself was fun and rewarding, since looking through the stations, I knew I was working toward the space ship. Naturally Cat Cloones are bigger than this world.

Great entry.

My ghosts kept driving off the track, so it wasn't hard to beat them.  The driving itself was pretty fun. I like the control setup with the camera angle. The moving obstacles were fun, if you take it further, more of those please.

Really nice retro-feeling game. I don't have much to add that other's haven't written, but I'll place emphasis on the upgrades. I couldn't tell what they did. Cool kill for time mechanic. Nice cohesive look. It's fun.
