Amazing game! I loved the graphics and music of this game, and the levels were fun to play through as well!

I liked the sun with the "evil" eyes. It's a bit like a jack-o-lantern. And the art in general is cute. I also like how the level gets lighter over time, which gets scary (and I feel like the arrow showing the time isn't moving at a constant speed, I'm guessing that's on purpose, but it's a bit too obvious). But the flashing exclamation point makes me think some people could get seizures from it (and apparently when it involves the colour red, it might be more likely to do so). I couldn't figure out how to get to the moving platform inside the tower in the second level (or third level, if we count the tutorial). Maybe from the platform on the right, but I'm not sure I could get unto that one either (I did get to the lower one on the left, which seems just too low to jump unto the moving one).
The music works well too. The fast music makes you want to hurry (and now I don't remember what it was like in the level I didn't make it through, but it did fit the level). And yeah, the music on the main menu feels like I've heard it before, but I guess I know why that is, and that's okay.
And I like that there's food lying around on the main menu and on the credits screen. It makes them look fun.
Really great game. Snappy Movement and always on point. In my opinion the difficulty was good :) But this is just a preference thing i guess.
Keep up!
Super cute! Great job! Keep going with Construct and you're going to make some incredible stuff in the future.
Thanks so much! Stoked to see someone make a YouTube video of playing my game. Really happy that you liked the animation of the ghost himself because that is actually one of the bits that I drew! (along with the UI and win screen). I'm not super confident with art so I used a lot of other people's assets, but would really like to use more of my own in the future. Some people have complained about the game being too hard, but you completely smashed it. You didn't even get to meet the sun! Haha There's a whole chase sequence when the sun arrives and you have to get to the portal, but you were just too good. I'll have to make the later levels harder to ensure that people meet the sun. Good luck in the jam!
Loved the game! The idea is so cute (and relatable) and the controls were sooo nice to use! I love how the background changes each time as it gets closer to sunrise, its very useful when you get too focused on the food, and its also very pretty! Though personally I found the game a little hard, as I had to rush to get all the food in time and barely make it bad before the sunrise, but overall it was a very entertaining game!
Hey Dawny, thanks so much for playing! It's a little evil, but I'm actually kinda happy to hear that you barely made it back to the portal in time. The idea with adding the sun was that there would be some thrilling chases at the end of the levels, so I'm happy that kinda worked. But yeah totally point taken it could definitely be a little easier, especially in the first two levels! :) I think I'm going to try and finish this game, so I'll try to create more of a difficulty curve with more levels.
Nice game, interesting idea with the day night switch. I like sounds, music and visuals. But man, pretty damn hard, for a jam game a lot lower difficulty would have been nice ;)
Adorable and enjoyable game. Glad to see someone else had food collection (and a hungry character) as part of their game - lol! Really nicely done controls and map lay out.
What a cute game! The movement felt responsive and the ability to look down was smart. And you could tell the game was made with lots of love from the cheery music to the dramatic and intense drop when the sun is coming up. Loved it and great job with your first game!
Thanks so much Eggquisite, really appreciate you taking the time to play ^^ And thanks, looking down was one of the first things I implemented after the basic movement, just felt like something that I always find useful in platformers. Really happy to hear you enjoyed the music and found the sun chases dramatic, totally what I was going for.
Nice work! The intro was a really nice way to get into the game, maybe could have some music for it too. something chill/homely feeling? But was straight away impressed!
I like the art, one concern is some tiles in the 2nd level I wasnt sure if they were solid objects or in background, E.g. pillars. Maybe make them contrast more with the solid tiles. Musics nice, gameplay was cool. Personally the movement is a little too fast, and Id prefer WASD controls, but was fun nonetheless. Excellent job for your first game, solo too!
Yeah I see what you mean about the prologue section, I was struggling with what the tone should be, but I think I tend to agree that maybe it should be more homely. I think if I do end up continuing to work on the game, I would like to return to that space, perhaps every couple of levels or something. And yeah totally take the critique of the tiles being a little too uncertain whether they are solid or not in level 2. I was thinking that as I was making it. I'll find a way to add more contrast to the back layer. And I'll add WASD as an option because that's my preference to tbh. Thank so much for your feedback and comments they're really helpful!
I find alot of things in this game very satisfying; from the well placed sound effects and music, the design of the character and the environment, the camera movement and the challenging it gets to collect all the food before the sunrise. A nice idea for this vimjam, and a perfect way to make your first game. Congratulations!
Some people gently knock on the door to get in making games, and you just punched a hole in the wall. WOW !
First timer?? Ermagerd. My first game SUCKED. This is very good, I especially like how when the sun comes you don't just instantly die, but instead the music kicks in and the tension rises with the sun coming for your butt. Real nice!
Thanks so much for playing! Really happy you like the sun. I wanted to get across a feeling of urgency and hopefully engineer some exciting chases at the end of the level. Actually really happy people are even meeting the sun, I was worried it might be a bit too easy and people would never even see it! Spent so long trying to make it work haha. I'll check out your game now!
