  • Really fun submission I enjoyed the worldbuilding and the artstyle is absolute peak, Greath job!

How does the game fit into the theme?
The game only has one player control, which is the fishing boat's light. The light is used to fend away anomalies of the deep. Moreover, the player only has one life (if the anomaly hits them, they lose), and there's only one story.

What premade assets did you use if any?
The button clicking and the dialogue sound effect (the same one, I just chopped them up for different uses).

What are the Discord usernames of everyone on your team?

The visual style is very striking and cohesive, you've done a really fantastic job! The character sprites are a bit eerie and fit the vibe very well. I also liked the frame around the game to tie it all together. I quite enjoyed the music as well. I think some sort of subtle shadow in the water or slight distortion to hint at where an anomaly is when the light isn't shining on it would be helpful.

This feels like the prologue to a wider game and I'd love to see more of it. I can definitely see an expanded version of this where each trip gets progressively longer and more complex. Possible multiple types of anomalies that could fake the player out in some way, and additional mechanics surrounding the light like recharging or flickering for added difficulty.

Very well made game, congrats! If you don't mind me asking, what font did you use for the itch.io page?

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for checking it out! I used the Pixel font set to medium size :]

Very good game, I can see it expanded a lot!

This is a masterpiece!

Wow, the art is amazing!
The gameplay loop feels a bit repetitive after a few tries, but the atmosphere and mood really make it worth it.
Great job!

I really liked the game. It explores a great mechanic, but I would have liked to see a bit more of it. I really enjoyed the audio and graphics, and the game has a strong identity. Well done!

Developer

Thanks for the review! Really glad you enjoyed the game :) I agree that I could've done more with the game, but I was pretty late to the party, so that'll have to be a learning lesson for me next time; joining earlier, that isπŸ˜…Still! I'm glad to have finished the game and will hopefully expand it in the future!

visuals are insane for 24 hours, but the game is kinda short

Developer

Thanks for playing the game, and glad you liked the visuals! Admittedly, I joined the jam a bit late and could've spent that time wiser, so that'll have to be a learning lesson next time! Still, I do plan to further develop this game at some point; open up the world a bit more :) Thanks again and good luck on the jam :D

I like your game. The atmosphere made by graphics and audio is looking awesome. A little story and simple game play is charming as well.

Developer

Thanks for checking out the game! And glad you liked the atmosphere :]

The visuals are greats! it's missing an indication for the place where are the monsters when the light is not on them, it's a bit frustrating.

The game is still great, good job!

Developer

Thanks for checking out the game! You're not the first to suggest the indication feature, so I'll take note of that when I further develop the game. Nevertheless, glad you enjoyed it, and good luck on the jam!

Love the gorgeous visuals and tense gameplay!! I did find myself feeling a bit dizzy after playing for a while though, maybe add an option to decrease the wave intensity (visually?) Other than that, great game!

Developer

Thanks for checking out the game! You're not the first to get the wave intensity problem, so I'll have to add a motion-disable option in the future; thanks for the heads-up! Good luck on the jam btw :] I checked out your game and the world is incredibly atmospheric.

I love the concept, it has great potential for a full game. I would like to add that maybe it needs some very subtle visual indicator of the monsters when the light is not shining on them (like a water ripple) as now I just circle around the boat really fast and hope I see the monster. The art is beautifully made and I love the limited palette!

Developer

Thanks so much for checking out my game! You're not the first to suggest adding a visual indicator for the monsters, so I'll have to consider that when further developing this project :] Thanks for the feedback! And yeah, the art has been a humbling experience πŸ˜But I really dig the routine of sticking to a palette!

Thanks again and good luck on the jam! Love your game as well btw <3 very atmospheric

Submitted

thanks for the kind words and best of luck to you too! 😁

Peak game!! I love the concept, and its already so tense despite only having 1 enemy, you have to constantly look around. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for checking out the game! I'm glad you liked the concept <33

I really love this concept! the art is just- WOW

I love the art!! and I gotta say super short yet sweet! only thing is I wish there was another threat or something more to the game, like another enemy or a reload battery to make it more tense? but for 3 days this is impressive, I can easily see this being a full game, and I hope you make more with this concept, it's sick as hell!

outstanding work!

Thanks for checking out the game! Doing the art was a very humbling experience haha 😭😭 I see potential in this world as well! Hopefully gonna expand it more in the future with different enemies and storylines with the fellas Bill and Phil :) (In terms of vibe, I plan to do another nautical game with limited palette, and a Papers, Please sort of game with a bleak/moody vibe hehe)

Good luck on the jam!

I love the concept! The pixel art is wonderful, and it had a great aesthetic. The mechanics all worked well and its very good for a 3 day jam. one thing i would suggest is making it less rocky and wavy, i felt myself getting a bit seasick just looking at it! Other than that, wonderful little game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for checking out the game!! You're not the first person to feel that way, so I'll make sure to include a feature that reduces the rockying effect next time when I get to expand this project!

Thank you again and good luck on the jam :D Btw, I checked out Pyromaniac; it was a very fun experience :]

Submitted

I love the concept and the vibe, but dang its so hard, like  I was circling as fast as I could and it felt impossible

Developer

Glad to hear you're enjoying the game! Sorry for it being difficult πŸ˜πŸ˜ The anomlies sometimes hide behind the waves. Other than that, I might have to add rippling to indicate where they are if I were to expand on this πŸ€”

Thank you for checking out my stuff again! Good luck on the jam :D

Thank you, and very glad you enjoyed it! Just played & rated yours and it was pretty fun! Good luck on the jam <3

This is sick! I get Dredge vibes in the best way possible. This could easily be a fun mini game as part of a larger horror game - something Cthulu related maybe. I think the player could benefit from some kind of hint showing where the anomaly is. Maybe a ripple in the water. Or like a splash or something. Just a quick hint so I don't constantly circle my mouse around the screen like a madman with a wish for Carpal Tunnel. Really great vibes, worldbuilding, and artwork though!

Developer

Oooo, I haven't heard of Dredge yet but upon googling, man! does it look good! I'll give it a try one day :] And thank you so much for checking out my game! I do feel like not hinting where the anomaly is is part of the experience, to punch up the anxiety of the player yk :)) However, I plan to add sound effects for when the anomalies dissipate so player knows when to stop shining their light! And of course, I hope to expand more on the worldbuilding and the duo of Bill and Phil hehe

Thank so much again! I just checked out your game and the Persian-esc vibes and mechanics are incredibly interesting! Good luck on the jam!

beautiful art and vibes! very straight forward and accomplishes what it set out to do with lots of polish. well done!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for checking out my game! I started off late (slightly more than a day to work on it) so I kept the game shortπŸ˜” There's a chance for further development in the future, as always!

Btw, I just checked out your game and honestly love the arrow mechanic! <3 Good luck on the jam :D

Beautiful! A great concept, executed flawlessly. It leaves me wanting more.

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind comment! <3 Now that Dean has reviewed my game, I see potential to expand on stuff! Especially the world and the atmosphere hehe
