Oh no. I'm sorry you had trouble with the controls!
The trick is releasing the mouse button sooner, while the mouse is moving quickly, to fling the objects with some speed. Our fault for not making that more clear in the tutorial.
You're not alone. Dalton pointed out that the carbon-attractor-gun should have a more limited range, to enforce "flinging" instead of "placing".
Thanks again for playing!
It took me several attempts to fully understand the controls. As well as the rules actually. Is there a way to save planets? So far my only strategies was to run away from the black hole!
Even so, the game is pretty fun to play! Once I understood how the physics work, movement was pretty fluid, and the game was quite frenetic. I like the visuals, and the light tone of the game. Once I learned how to properly play it, it was a really enjoyable experience!
Good catch. We probably shouldn't have displayed that particular metric (planets lost) since there's no reasonable way for players to save planets. Or it should have been phrased more positively (You're doing awesome, look how many disasters you survived / avoided!).
Technically, if a planet doesn't go into the black hole, it doesn't count against your "planets lost" score. So an extremely dedicated player could try flinging objects at planets to knock them off course. But that'd be a difficult way to play, because you'd be sacrificing your own safety.
Cool concept, but I do agree that the controls could use a little work/are a little unintuitive. Love the Godot icon as the astronaut!
This game is rad, but I definitely had a hard time with the controls. It was impossible for me using my mouse, I couldn't quite release at the right rate needed to get a good enough kick. However, when I switched to my pen tablet I was able to last longer than 3 seconds. I'd love to try this game on a tablet or phone where I could use my finger. I'm sure that would totally transform the experience here.
I was a bit stuck initially, but the game became pretty fun to play when
I realize that as opposed to following the tutorial, it's far easier
to just drag things directly onto the enemies, and fling enemies for
movement thanks to their large hitboxes.
That's said, I think the coherence of art assets can certainly use some improvement. I also find the music to be a tiny bit needlessly epic.
Worked fine for me on web. I kept trying to feed them to each other without luck! xD
Flinging just did not work for me in the web version, but worked fine in the download. In case anyone else has trouble with it.
It's weird, but really fun. I get the feeling I never quite got the knack of using objects to propel myself, though; I was staying alive for about 70 seconds.
