This was particularly interesting actually!

Being a fully skilled-based game, I think you could've made do if there was a consistent way of dealing with ties/draws, because the randomness of outcome kinda takes away from the tactical/strategic aspect of the game.

Granted there is a small level of RNG in the game ( with moving enemies), it was not too particularly prominent or deetracting from the skill component of the game.

This had been quite enjoyable! As a unique mix of puzzle and real-time gameplay with it.

As a small suggestion, perhaps you can move the UI closer to the player because I find myself constantly looking at the top right and at the center which can become visually tiring after a long session.

It took me a moment to get into it, but it was a pretty engaging title in the longer run! It particularly became interesting once the enemies started to move around, because it made my moves feel more tactical- Do I wait for one to come to me and beat him with the roll I have, or do I go for it?

The random nature of the ties was a little confusing until I read the description again after playing. I would've preferred one set result; always lose or always win.

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm glad to hear the enemy movement added to the later levels! And yeah, I made ties random mostly because I couldn't think of anything more cleaver in the moment; if I keep working on this I'd want a set outcome; potentially some sort of third possibility.

We have the same idea of gameplay. Really good job!!

Interesting idea, though I feel like some indication of what the value of the die will be after a particular move.

Very interesting. I've seen a few games so far that use dice for combat and some that use a dice's rolling faces, but this is the first that I've seen combine them. I would have liked to see a more visual representation of the dice rolling than just values updating (both in the field and the diagram, but what's here is serviceable. I also think that allowing ties to sometimes work in the player's favor impacts the puzzle aspect of it, and I'd consider changing it to ties = loss if it were my game. The game was a lot of fun, though.

Not a bad implementation of a common gameplay idea I've seen across the jam. I appreciate that it was more than just "get the right number on the spot". Well put together :)

Saw many games with this mechanic in the jam, but you did something great - added a layout of the die and possible move outcomes. I still spend too much time randomly walking in circles until I have nice numbers, but at least I'm sure of the outcome now. The music is great, the winning sound might be a bit too loud, and also I don't really understand how draws work - sometimes I win during a draw, sometimes I lose. Is it random? Still, I finished the game and enjoyed it, good job!

Developer

Thanks for the comments; and yes, it's a 50/50 coin flip when the numbers tie! I  just didn't put that info anywhere in the game explicitly.

This game is super unique! The puzzles were also super fun, nice job!

I found it creative, it has good art and good music. very good job! I loved playing =]

Love the music and the style even tho the pixel art doesnt reeeally fit with the characters. I also really like that you dont need to wait ages every time you want to move as it is the case with the 3d games that use the dice in this way. I also really liked that the characters started moving instead of just standing still. The only thing i didnt really understand was why sometimes having an equal number was enough and sometimes it wasnt, but oh well good game

Developer(+1)

I made a tie just be a 50/50 chance of winning or losing, but I didn't end up putting that info anywhere in the game. Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you liked it!

Hey nice little puzzle game you got here! Cool art style and all! I'm not too great with puzzle games, and I didn't get super far here but it was pretty creative. Also thanks for putting the diagram up there, without it I would have been extra lost and to me this would have been much more trial and error!

Very good work on this!

There seems to be a lot of jam games with this mechanic, but this is the only one on where I finally got how the rolling actually works. Thank you for the diagram and congrats on finishing the jam !

Thanks! I  thought of the diagram, disregarded it because I thought it would make things too easy, and then another of my friends suggested it independently, so I'm glad others are finding it valuable too!

That's a cool puzzle game that i'd love to see polished !

The enemies moving took my by surprise in a good way. Really changed up the game. And the music was lovely and very fitting.

the game looks nice and the style reminds me a bit of cuphead
the game is a bit tricky to get into but once your in its alot of fun
only wish the indicator for the next numbers was a bit less confusing

Developer

Thanks! And yeah, I think the dice guy from Cuphead was specifically what inspired my friend's character design.
