one of my top ten games!
I'm really impressed with how many different aspects to the game you got into such a short time.
The game feels good to play but I think reducing the aspects to a d3 would've made it a bit easier to keep track of what does what. I also think you can indicate on the UI what each aspect does.
Solid game and impressive for just 26h of work!
Thoes skeletons poking my pengiun eyes with there bones x_x
Should kill them all! >.<
Awesome! I ended up winning after ~5 tries xD
There's a a lot of strategic depth in this for being a single battle and I think everything is communicated pretty clearly that the player would need to know (except for the different aspect effects and enemy resistances). I remember you saying other people didn't like that earth aspect wasn't beneficial in anyway and I kinda agree. I don't think any aspect should be strictly avoided because you are already trying to juggle the aspects to work in your favor based on the situation. Earth Aspect could give you some resistance as an option (a little bit situational, but I think it adds just enough strategy to make Earth viable)
The Aspects are balanced in the meta with the other mechanics. Earthquake is an incredibly powerful card with the downside of invoking the Earth Aspect.
But I remember the last time I tried to fight player sentiment (it never works) so I guess I’ll make Earth less bad and increase the cost of Earthquake or something… :(
who the damage work? why card like "stab" say damage 3 but remove 1 from Skeleton?
The Skeleton resists 2 points of Physical Damage, so 3 DMG - 2 Resist = 1 point, unless it is the Air Aspect and the damage types are reversed, or Fire Aspect where it hits for both types of damage
It's certainly a bit overwhelming and tough to follow at first (things that tooltips and more gradual animations will help with considerably), but having watched people play it on stream, I was able to jump into it fairly easily. I only really needed to double check a couple of the aspects. Managing the aspect is a really interesting wrinkle into the card battling formula that adds a lot. This absolutely has promise to be something really fun if expanded upon with more cards and the deck building meta component. Really impressive for such short time.
Love to see another card battler. I like the idea of juggling aspects, feels a bit like Slay the Spire Watcher to play. Also the game looks pretty cool with all the background changes for different aspects.
Very cool! Reminded me of those Pen and Paper games. Your implementation of a turn based combat system with multiple attacks and effects is impressive! Not to mention it's fairly balanced! I noticed a couple of bugs in the WebGL version, but noticed you mention those go away with the .exe version (gotta love WebGL...).
Your game is also a very creative take on the dice theme - I haven't see anything else quite like it yet in the jam, so nicely done there too!
Overall, great job!
Really cool game !
Really like the animations on the penguin.
It can get really strategic, lots of mechanics to take in for a jam game (kuddos on that).
Good job :)
Very cool game, love the visuals. There's quite some room for strategic plays.
I wish you drew more than one card per turn. I often found myself with no cards and just playing whatever I drew.
Great job!
I certainly want to add more cards that work into card economy post-jam, but for now your best bet is to hope for Water / Void. Thanks for your feedback!
Love the simple art style and the atmosphere of this game. Great work and awesome entry ! :))
The dice theme is implemented excellently. A pleasant mix of strategy and luck. Really great game!
I like how you incorporated the dice theme into this strategy card game. I don't have windows, so I could only play a bit in the browser even though you mentioned it would crash after defeating the skeleton. To get a better feel for the game, I watched hedgein's playthrough on twitch.
There's a lot to love about this game: the pixel characters - the fact that you play as a penguin, the beautiful scenery that changes as the aspects change, and the battle animations add so much charm to the game.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the game evolves if you decide to continue to work on it after the jam.
Thanks so much! I'm hoping to at least fix a couple things (like said crash) and add in some new cards.
Thanks for coming on stream for the interview! Played at https://twitch.tv/hedgein <3
Some great stuff considering the time we were given! Even with some cool animations! One thing I would have liked to see was a bit of a tutorial to kick things off, but other than that, it's a great entry!
For sure, I'm sorry all I could manage was "Please read the Itchio page"
WOW!!! This is really cool!!!!!
great work
Surprising amount of depth given the limited time frame! I love the penguin sprite too.
Penguins are the most friend-shaped creatures
Main character animation is very cute and the fact that you managed to make a turn-based RPG in such short period of time - is amazing. I knew from the beginning that I will not be able to do that but this game is truly great!
Great job!
Really enjoyed this one. Crazy you were able to pull off a turn based RPG in 48 hours. Art and music were both really nice and paired together perfectly. Also was a big fan of the camera zoom used in battle. Added a nice little touch. Good job on your game per usual!
