How does your game fit the theme?
You are a small dragon (who has scales) climbing (scaling) a much bigger dragon (that has been turned into a mountain). You collect different mechs and equip them, the idea being you are "building" your mech.

This gave me a great sense of exploration and discovery! Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Glad to know I did my job well X)

Wow you got a lot done within the time frame! Great music and the gameplay was fun!

Developer

:D

I like the grinding for new equipment part of the game and the music is great. I do wish there was some kind of map to let you know where your going as well as more reasons to switch mechs . Also, the Checker character is super wholesome and I'm really glad he doesn't get sad if you deny his help offer because that would be tragic. The cinematic ending is well done overall great job :D

Developer(+1)

In the future, we're probably going to keep the map very limited because exploration is one of the core parts of the story and oftentimes maps just lead you to stare at the map more than what's in the game

Originally, the idea was that each mech would have a separate inventory and have an irregular inventory shapes but it got cut because of difficulty implementing and time constraints. we've got more time, though, so that's going back in

also his name is CHECKER get it right smh my head /j

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The team is kinda blown away by the reception we're getting. The art and music departments crushed it.

The idea behind this game is amazing. Much room for content exploration in the future. Clever level design with a good leading to mechanics for player is always appreciated. Very impressive and polished already for a game jam, great job! :)

Developer (1 edit)

I think most of the team is on board to continue development, and we have a lot of ideas for expansion and refinement. So please keep an eye on the game. I think it's gonna get a whole lot cooler.

It's amazing how much content there is in the game. I'm not a fan of classic zelda-2d platformer, but this piques my interest. I'd like to see you make it into a full RPG.

Developer

We are actually probably gonna continue working on this! So check us out in the future ig

Submitted(+4)

where the hell do you guys get all those crazy ideas ??? It was super fun to play, like it was always a surprise to me, i had no idea on what would happen next ahah

Developer(+2)

weed

seriously though, we had a big ass brainstorm session at the beginning of the jam and that was where a majority of the stuff came from. i wouldn't call this game crazy but i'm glad you like it!

Developer(+1)

A lot of brainstorming! We ended up with eight "finalist" ideas for the kind of game we wanted to make, and this is the one we went with. Then we brainstormed on this one a lot. There are so many ideas and systems we had for this game that fell way outside our capacity to implement over a 96-hour jam, but we definitely want to keep it going. :D

Submitted(+4)

OOoooo I really like the concept of a dragon turning into a mountain. The caves were so huge that jumping down felt like doing a leap of faith. It's impressive how many mechanics you got working in such a little amount of time too.

Developer(+1)

thank you :DD

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking us out! Glad you liked the concept and the mechanics. I hope you enjoyed the gameplay!

Hello fellow Godoter! This is Diego, comming straight from Mark’s livestream!

I’m amazed by how many features your game has! I really like the clever level design that forces you to get the mech suit before going to the cave, I almost went to the cave without it. Unfortunately I got a little lost at the cave, I got several minerals, but then I didnt know what to do… Still this game is great, I really like the art and music too, this is a solid submission! Congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, loved your game too! Great job. Thanks for playing.

If you find the time, you should keep playing Wyrmtech. I get it's hard to know where you're going, but you should mess around with the shop in town and play with some of the upgrades if you didn't do that. The rocket boost is especially fun (and will get you to the end of the game with enough exploration).

Submitted(+1)

I tried going back but got stuck at the exit of the cave, I cant jump as high as a wall there, am I missing something?

Developer

There's a tricky way to make the jump back, but there's also a "Back to Town" button in the pause menu (Esc)! You can use that from anywhere in the game. Then in town the pause menu gives you access to the shop and inventory screen for updating your mech. :D Hope you give it another go!

Developer(+2)

good thing i thought of that >_<  needing a little more direction seems to be common issue so at least getting the mech is not much of a problem

Developer

Honestly, the first time I playtested the constructed world, I was really impressed by this subtle bit of level design.

Submitted (1 edit) (+4)

Very complex game with lots of systems. Grid based inventory with custom item shapes and ability to rotate them, dialogue system, teleports, upgrades, shop, mining with quick time event - that's impressive for a game jam! Cool art style too. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Our team worked really hard on this. I'm so happy with what we were able to publish. It was down to the wire at the end for sure. Thanks for the feedback!

Developer

:D

Submitted(+4)

I got a bit suck at the begining because I didnt realise I could teleport back to the town but once I understood how that worked it was enjoyable. I wish we could access the shop by talking to the red dragon and not just by entering the pause menu. Also sometimes I wasn't sure what I could interact with and what I couldn't like for the drill so it would be nice for a visual indication that something can be ineracted with.
All that said it was an enjoyable game and could be excellent with some tweaks.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! It may be a little subtle in some cases but there is actually a glowing border that fades in and out when you are close enough to something to interact with it. Glad to hear you enjoyed the game. :)

Developer

gonna let you in on a secret here: the shop wasnt implemented until there was like an hour left in the jam

it certainly would be much more natural but the programmers nerves were absolutely shot at this point X|

Submitted(+4)

Damn, that's one professional looking cover image! Plenty to do in the game as well, even if it gets tedious at times.

Developer

Thank you! This game really had a big scope. I'm so proud of my team for how much we managed to implement.

I'm impressed at how deep this game is for 4 days of development, nicely done! I really enjoyed navigating the mountain and building out the mech, it was very satisfying.

The only real critique I have is to have some more non-diegetic tutorials in the game as it can be a little easy to forget how things work and what buttons need to be pressed.

I really enjoyed this and I hope y'all keep developing it!

Developer(+1)

theres a controls guide somewhere in the menu but im not sure if it was updated X|
but yea we're probably gonna keep working on it since the teams been cool and we like eachother so catch us in the future maybe

Submitted(+4)

I liked the scale of the game, opening up the shop for the first time really showed off just how much y'all managed to get done in such a small time!

I managed to find a few mechs, and explored most of the nooks of the cave I could find. Unsure if there was another exit or something I didn't stumble into, even with a few shop upgrades.

I think the fast travel system would have been nice to be free to unlock. I missed the shop one at first and then was very confused why it didn't work after my first trip (when I had no more green gems).

Good job overall!

Developer(+1)

yeah there was an exit near the top right but i didnt design the latter half of the map very well  _-_

as for the fast travel, it was mainly because we wanted a use for the scalite (didnt have enough time for the og use, and just having 2 ores feels too little) and the checkpoints looked like it was powered by it anyways

I think next time we work on the game we're going to make that easier

thank u for the review :D

Developer(+1)

Speaking with maximum bias as the team lead, it is worth playing through to the end. Get yourself Big Rocket as early as you can and the game is basically yours at that point. :D

(+4)

Some really nice ideas, with a bit more polish and time the gameplay could definitely be improved but overall it's a solid game with surprisingly quite a lot of content. I'm not the hugest fan of 2D platformers in general and even less of going back and forth between levels so it's not 100% my jam but it was fun to try!

Developer

:D

Developer(+1)

There are checkpoints! Once you unlock those you can jump from one of them to the next. And there's a checkpoint in town that you can use too. And there's a return to town button you have access to any time. So that should help cut down on the backtracking! :D

Yes the checkpoint system and the fact we can go back to town at all time was definitely a good idea ;) !

I was surprised at how expansive this game was! The mech upgrades were quite satisfying, I was just a lil' lost some times at what to do next! Still a charming game, well done!

Developer(+1)

behold the power of friendship and being mildly delusional about what you can do in four days

Submitted(+4)

I enjoyed the inventory system, but what I really liked was that rocket! Sent you all over the place and was incredibly fun to use to navigate through the caverns.

Developer

rocket do be extremely op. unfortunately capitalism strikes even dragons and so in the future rocket prices will massively inflate

Submitted(+4)

Oh my goodness, this is such a charming little game and there are so many upgrades that it's crazy! Good job and I love all the little mechanics of your game!
