One big suggestion would be to have a better/faster yellow zone with more visual feedback on whether it's turned or not. I wasn't sure if they work at all all the time.

Also, although I didn't get what was happening in the game at first, once I got used to that, it was nice. I would admit, the sound design and maybe shake cameras to know if my ship collided with a meteor will help a lot to know if I'm actually in a bad situation or not right now. Without it, I didn't feel the sense of danger. But overall, the game is original and nice for sure, keep up with great work!

I agree completely, the animation of the thrusters should be a lot clearer. Thank you for the great feedback and for playing!

Unique idea! Feel like the spaceship could've had a better layout or maybe that the modes should be toggled by buttons? Like maybe you're in the pilot seat instead but can only access one function at a time? Feel like that would've been more intuitive

Fun idea tho but a very hard game!

Developer

Thank for the feedback. We actually started with the pilot seat idea, but for simplicity of development we changed direction. I actually think the end result was better. I can see some kind of hub working well, but having to move to multiple places to interact is very satisfying in my opinion. Thank you for playing!

I just rated your great game! Thank you very much for watching the stream!
I would appreciate it if you could check out my game too!

I was currently playing some games I had on my backlog. Yours is next. Thank you very much for your feedback and for playing!

I like the idea, though the game doesn't feel "fair" as it is now. I think my main issue is with the spaceship's "blindspots", where the lasers can't hit. Moving changes this, but not enough to, for example, attack asteroids coming from the side.

A minor issue I had was with the thrusters; it's hard to tell if they've been turned on since the particles take a little bit to come out; in this game you don't want to have to waste time verifying that your input was correct, so this is more noticeable.

I really like the idea of having the blue scout areas! The zoom in/out effects when there are really nice.

In terms of art, I think the main issue is with the inconsistent artstyles; though finding similar artstyles for various elements in opengameart or similar can be a challenge on its own. I'm also very biased towards audio, so I always recommend finding some music and sfx!

Still, it seems like both of you worked on the coding/design? There seems to be a well shared vision, which means there's some impressive teamwork behind the scenes; great work!

Thank you for your extensive feedback, we really appreciate it. This was our first game and we had little to no experience with Godot. Finishing something was our main goal and we're incredibly happy we managed to do that. We started with some premade art and then we talked about switching to a more abstract Geometry-Wars-like design as it seemed more doable (that's why the asteroids are hollow). However, in the end we weren't able to finish with a consistent look. 😅

The thrusters are indeed a problem, since their animation stops once they are out of the screen. I actually love that the lasers have fixed positions, as it forces you to move the ship, but I would say that movement options are bad, as the ship moves very slowly and it doesn't turn (unlike your game's ship 😄).

We really enjoyed the jam and we're enjoying all the feedback for sure. Thank you for playing!

Very fun game, with a unique design. I could have done with more feedback that i had used the areas provided - like a visual nod on the pad, maybe it lights up or something. Otherwise fun stuff!

Developer

The presentation is certainly lacking. 😅 Glad you enjoyed it still. Thank you for playing!

Agreed with the others before me, very good idea and very cleverly executed. Probably requires a few tweaks to the instructions on how to play with an intuitive tutorial, but that has already been stated by others, and I am sure that critique has been handy for you already.

Good ideas, probably needs a bit more fleshing out, BUT from there, this could be a very clever idea from here. :D

Developer

I completely agree. Also, thank you for the feedback, it's never too much. Thank you for playing! 😄

I like the idea, definitely made me anxious not seeing what i was shooting. well done!

Developer

Thank you very much!

This is a cool idea!  I really like how each action you take has to be so deliberate, rather than simply pressing a key to switch between the ship states.  I did find the multiple viewports to be a little redundant, but I imagine they are more helpful if you're flying with one turbo on for an extended amount of time (which I never really did).

Cool stuff! =)

Developer

I agree that the viewports have some redundancy, but I actually liked how I was using all three to maximize my chances. They could be even better with a few tweaks, I believe. Thank you very much for your feedback and for playing!

Pretty frustrating at first, but I liked it!

Developer

There's definitely a learning curve. Thank you for playing!

Submitted(+1)

The stress it causes in me is great!

Developer

Thank you for playing and the feedback!

Developer

Thanks! Actually caught the live review on twitch, had a lot of fun watching that, thank you for that and the provided feedback!

Nice idea! Had quite fun playing your game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Idea is nice. Controlling the ship is unintuitive, some short in game tutorial would be nice :)

Developer

Thank you! Yes, there is quite a lot missing, and the instructions on the start screen are clearly not enough. Thank you for the feedback! :D

A very original idea, and the execution of it was pretty solid as well, although it would've been nice to have some sort of zoom in on where you got hit, so players can learn from their mistakes a little better?

I couldn't hear any sound. I'm not sure if that was a glitch if there was no audio.

Developer

Thank you for your comment! The Game Over state is certainly lacking.

There is no sound, no glitch there. That's clearly because the camera is in the outer space and not because it was our first game. 😂

Submitted(+1)

Haha, of course!

An interesting concept, though I found it a bit too difficult to control, as it seemed like as soon as I'd get to the view point to have a look, it would already be too late. Perhaps if there was a way to see at least the close asteroids without needing the view point, to make those emergency reactions quicker? Otherwise great job :)

Developer (1 edit)

The spawing of the asteroids is not always what we would call fair. I feel that you got a really bad pattern. 😄

We had planned to have colors in the ship, to give partial information without having to actually look, but we didn't have time to do it. Still, we're glad how it turned out in the end.

Thank you. Glad we finished something.

Very neat idea. Not controlling the spaceship but actually being a player managing everything. Not an easy game but something you get better at the more you play and the more you get used to your spaceship. Nicely done!

Developer

Thank you!
