It looks great, and sounds great. Couldn't figure out the puzzles, that's on me, though.

It's nice to see a point and click game in this jam. Will be interested to see a polished version of this but good  entry.

Developer

I'll probably do more point and click for future game jams too as it's my favourite kind of game that we don't see as much anymore :c Thank you for taking the time to play and I'm happy you enjoyed yourself in doing so!!

Submitted(+1)

That's great to hear. I grew up on a number of point and clicks and still like them.

REVIEW:

Played 13 minutes.

Visual Novel / Interactive Fiction   genre with a Roald Dahl feel to it.

The theme and story were spot on in this game and genre.

The use of the audio assets was very well utilised; however, the music felt slightly off (distracting) after a few minutes.

The artwork is fun and gives sufficient information about the player’s surroundings as well as what they can do.

The game mechanics was fundamental and simple to learn. The puzzle was extremely well designed to make the player feel like a winner with minimal handholding.

This is a very good first submission and I am looking forward to seeing what else you will come up with in the future! Maybe experiment with other game engines as well.

Thank you for the fun and inspiration!

Developer

Thank you so much for this in-depth review !! I'm super glad you enjoyed it and I will take into consideration your feedback for future projects!

Wonderful approach to the theme. The art style is very nice as well!

Developer

Hi ! Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed it! Loved your game as well :))))

Submitted(+1)

I enjoyed it! I like the art style especially, nicely done!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it ! Thank you for taking the time to play ^^

The game was really good, I do believe that the text in dialogue can use a different font other than that real fun!

Developer

Hello! Thank you for your feedback I 1000000% agree with you, I just wasn't confident I would have enough time to fix it for submission (it was fine before but scaling with UI got messed up on build trial so fixing the scaling messed up the Font and I couldn't revert it :C). I appreciate you trying the game though :)

Submitted(+1)

This is a really great game, I love the riddles! It was so fun and in the end I couldn't believe it's your first game, it's really amazing!

Great Job!

Developer

Hi! I'm super glad you enjoyed it! thank you for your feedback :333!

cool game, the doodles had me for a while, great fun to play, congratulations on getting a game out there!

Developer

Haha I'm glad they were more stumping thank I initially thought >:3. I'm glad you had a nice time playing! Thank you for taking the time to play it!

Submitted(+1)

The lock tripped me up but I had a great time playing! I figured out the idea for the combo without the clues, but had inputted it wrong... noooo! Still a great time by the end. The art was cool and point and click games are really fun.

Developer

Thank you for playing!! I'm glad you made it to the end with brute force XD I agree abt point and click, you hardly see those anymore :'))) If you have any suggestions for one to play lmk!! (i know of rusty lake but that's about it...)

Submitted(+1)

I just played the Garfield ones when I was a kid…

Developer (1 edit)

the only garfield one that comes to mind is the one with the Haunted House where it scared the bejeebus out of me w a "count the garfields..."-SYKE .. i may have tried others but i have a vivid memory of being petrified by that specific one xD

Update: found the vid of it! It's this one that traumatized me (around 3 minute 30sec mark. Jumscare warning)!!!

Submitted(+1)

NO WAY YOU FOUND IT THAT'S IT

Developer

OH LET'S GOOOO!! xD i miss games like these!!

defo recommend Rusty Lake btw if you want a point and click puzzle thriller game :D

Submitted(+1)

Fun game, I enjoyed it!  I do admit that in the end I was using the clues I got already and just trying all the combos to get that lock to open.  I love the art and the ending!

Developer

Thank you for trying it out !! and LOL fair enough XD I honestly thought I was giving tOO MUCH away with my doodles. I'm glad that they were terrible enough that it actually made people question it haha

I'm glad that ultimately you got to the end  :) that's the important part ^^ I will take into consideration your feedback and make my clues clearer for future projects! I'll go try your game out as soon as I can too! :)

Submitted

Oh no, your clues are fine!  I was just being lazy and tried a shortcut because I really wanted to see the end.  In my opinion it was worth it :)

Great entry, I like this type of games! The paintings are fantastic! Well done!

Developer

Hi! Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed :))

Submitted(+1)

Nice game, it reminds of the escape room flash games I used to play on school computers 😂 The art style is lovely and unique, I especially like the paintings. I would mention the stretched UI but I can see it's already been pointed out and you've explained. That's the only thing I'd say that's off about it though, fix that and it's looking pretty good all around. Not bad for your first ever game or for a game jam submission, congrats :D

Developer(+1)

Oh my gosh I'm so glad it made you think of those types of games because I was definitely heavily inspired by them X333 notably Rusty Lake (a point and click thriller franchise I highly recommend!).  Thank you for playing my game and for your constructive feedback!!

Submitted(+1)

Makes sense, well you did a great job, it brought back some memories. You don't tend to see many of these types of games anymore. I'll have to check out that Rusty Lake in my spare time too :D

Developer(+1)

You don't right? I aim to hone my skills a little more to be able to make a larger scale of that kind of flash-inspired game on the side c: and yes Rusty Lake is so simple but so good  !! I hope you like that too :D

Thank you again for the feedback :) it means a lot!!

I really love the art, especially the little paintings, but I am absolutely terrible at games like these and could not figure out the code :sob:, I assumed it had to do something with the calendar, so I tried all the dates of the shown month but didn't work :(

-- Also the UI text at the beginning is a little stretched.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hi! I appreciate the time you took to play my game and the feedback :) I'm sorry you were unable to unlock the combination :c  I figured my doodling on the calendar might have become a red herring xD

Might I propose looking at the bigger picture for the calendar :)? if it isn't a specific day of the calendar, what other information could you pull from it :) (The circle I drew sucked but look closer at where it's focused )

Update: also, yea... the UI ... I had some reformatting I had to do when uploading my build and it broke the text and I couldn't fix it confidently enough in time ._. but thank you for letting me know!!!

Submitted(+1)

A fun little game, the UI is difficult to read (or maybe it's just me) as if the letters are stretched out. Other than that the puzzles were decent and had fun, good job!

Developer

Hello ! Thank you for your feedback ! It is definitely not just you, I had some last minute UI tweaks I needed which completely broke the text size but I wasnt confident enough to fix it properly before time ran out xD (resizing the box was not working at all so I might have to just redo it ....) I appreciate the feedback though and will take more consideration into making sure the UI works properly now that I know how to fix it !

Nice short puzzle game. The art is fantastic. Ending is a great idea. Well done.

Developer

Thank you for trying it out :))) I'm super glad you enjoyed it <3

Submitted(+1)

This is really well put together, especially for a first game :D had a really fun time playing it, I'm not very good with puzzles so it took me some time to figure it out but I'm glad I stuck with it to see the ending

Developer

Hi! thanks for taking the time to try out my game :) it brings me joy to hear you made it thru to the end and enjoyed it! I'll go try out your game asap :)))

Submitted(+1)

Very nice cute game. Well done for a first game, very well made!

Developer(+1)

Hi!! Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed it :33

Thank you for trying out my game :) I'm glad you enjoyed the ending x3 it was super fun to come up with !

Great little puzzle game with clever clues. Not sure if it's just me, but the ending cutscene only showed a black screen for me with a skip cutscene button, went through it 3 times with the same issue
