It was fun! And you managed to fit the theme in an original way.

... and also now I want to play again some X-Wing vs Tie Fighter :)

Hey that is a really good firs game jam attempt! Love orbiting around in space and shooting turrets. I only had trouble understanding whether or not I am actually hitting the enemy turrets, I often felt like I have shot a looot of bullets at them, but they wouldn't die. Still though, a very impressive submission!

I loved it!  I mean it is just fun; I keep rolling in space and shooting and whenever I die I just get a new friend It's awesome. You hit the theme dead on and you did it well :)

One of the things I kept thinking about while in the brainstorming phase was how to make death a beginning and also make it make sense (not stupid) and you did that and made death make it more fun too :)

Congratulation! Good job :)

Developer

That's really kind, thank you! :)

The download says there should be a Linux and Mac version it it as well, but only provides a Windows binary. This won't work, there won't magically appear Linux or Mac versions just because you ticked that icon in the Itch page - you will have to add the Linux and Mac target modules to your Unity installation and switch to them and do another build!

Interesting mechanics though I didn't really get how the rolls were supposed to work (I guess each one of the buttons corresponds to pitch, yaw, and roll).

More importantly I quite didn't get if or when I hit one of those turrets. I could only make out I felt I was losing (all lives depleted and going low on the last one's energy) and suddenly there was a "You've won the game" message...

Developer

Oh haha thanks I had no idea, I thought the build handled it :x

Submitted

No, it doesn't. You have like a "big" switch between the target architectures (WebGL and "PC") and then within "PC" (which more or less has the same CPU code with them all being x86 architecture (more or less now that Apple added M1 ARM chips into the mix), but different low level layer for the runtime.

Therefore, for a typical jam game there would be 4 versions to build, one WebGL for browser playing and one of each, Linux, Mac, and Windows.

Really cool game! Sadly camera bound on the mouse isn't something that I can play for a long time as I get dizzy but for the short while that I was playing it, it's really nice!

Wow! Awesome job getting a good feeling space pilot game in ten days. I feel like just setting up the controls probably took a long time. I'm not sure if I am just bad at this type of game, but I had a really hard time not dying constantly. But I really liked the theme. Great work!

Developer

Haha yeah, I think most of development was just the player controller - I really underestimated things! Thanks very much :)

Wow awesome job! I really like the clone ship mechanic, it's nice to have friends lol Great choice on the music too, it really sets the tone of the game!

Developer

Thanks kindly!

A great space shooter.  It is very impressive that you managed to make such a complete game solo!

To make this game even better, I think there can be more feedback when people hit the target. It is difficult to tell if I'm damaging the structure or not, so some feedback would be great.

I'm not good with this type of control. I think my clones control the fighter better than I do so I just die whenever the charge is complete. :D But still, fun game! Great job!

Developer(+1)

It's a perfectly valid strategy ;)

Submitted(+1)

Nice work there ! Theme fits well, and it is fun to move the space ship within the environment. Congrats :)

Developer

Thank you!

cool space shooter. reminds me of the x wing in star wars.

I like this. The clone ships are a neat idea. My clones are better pilots than me. The controls are a little bit weird and it is hard to tell if you are actually hitting a turret.

Developer

Thanks! I think more UI would have made the controls a little more intuitive for anyone not used to the genre but I underestimated how long everything would take. Same deal with the damage feedback.

Submitted(+1)

Nicely done!

Some random thoughts:

  • The controls feel very much in line with one of the best spaceship games I've ever played, "Freelancer". It's an oldie, and weirdly enough doesn't seem to on steam or gog, but worth a look for extra inspiration :D.
  • I had a weird issue in which the space stations would disappear if I went a bit far from them to try to make a U-turn and come back. I kept looking for them, but I couldn't see them, not sure if I was just being dumb though.
  • I wasn't very sure what exactly I had to shoot at. May be having a small sound effect that triggers when you hit something that can be damaged may help?

This is a fun game, nicely done!

Developer(+1)

Haha, Freelancer was my main inspiration so thank you, it's a travesty that there isn't even a gog version!

I tried re-creating your bug by flying off to the planet and turning around but they were still there so I'm not sure what could have happened. The camera far clip is set to 6k I think, so that's a mystery to me!

I did plan to have hit feedback on enemies and the player but just ran out of time. Thanks again!

really nice game, I had so much fun playing it, well done

Developer

Thank you! :)

Nice game! It was cool seeing my army of clone ships gradually growing. One thing to mention is it might be nice to have more visual feedback when hitting a valid target - I wasn't sure if I was hitting correctly or doing damage for the first couple of minutes. But overall great job and congrats on your first game jam submission 😎

Developer

Thanks!

The VFX for respawning/creating a clone is awesome, and the skybox is really immersive. Very cool how the clones started acting on their own too.

Developer

Thank you!

Nice music, i had trobule with the controlls but maybe that is just me, cool entry. Feel free to check out my game

Submitted(+1)

I must admit, I'm normally not a big fan of space shooter games, but I really enjoyed this entry. The visuals and sound were very good and it did a good job immersing me into the experience. Well done!

Developer

Thank you, that means a lot. As I said to someone earlier, if you liked this, check out 'Freelancer' some time as that was my main inspiration - you might like it! :)

Excellent! One the best games I've played so far in this amazing sea of game submissions.

Got a real X-Wing / Tie Fighter vibe - the early 90s boomer games + that Star Wars arcade machine from the late 90s. A lot of fun once the clones start taking care of business - nice one with the AI. Although at first I thought the cannons were infighting or by some miracle were firing towards each other (you do explain this in the game page text though, so it was just me being simple)

Really good, congrats.

Developer

Gosh that's nice of you to say, thank you. You're right to be confused about the clones though, I didn't really get to add the polish I'd hoped to. Anyway, thanks again!

Submitted(+1)

Well done, space flight felt really nice and worked well. It wasn't clear when I was doing damage to the turrets, but I was pleasantly surprised to see my clones start helping out. Great work on this, and especially excellent for a first game jam entry!

Thank you :)
