It's so funny that when I started to play I thought to myself, "Oh I don't like games like this." But after I died a couple times, I really wanted to try and get a powerup. So then I played a little longer. Then I wanted to get a little farther. And before I knew it, I was playing this game for quite a bit. Really simple mechanic but it's executed so well and definitely has a "just one more run" type of gameplay. Great work!

I can't express enough how happy your comment makes me! Thank you so much for gyour comment and for giving my game a try!

This is a very nice game. I love the idea for the theme and the art style is beautifully. You did a very good work.

This game is beautifully simple in its style and feels great to play. I wish I could play more of it right now, but I was having one little challenge. Being on a laptop right now, switching between left and right click on the touch pad is a bit tough. Would be a lot more intuitive on a mouse I'm sure.

Developer

Thank you for checking my game out and for your feedback!

Indeed, when making the game I was mainly testing it with a mouse, but not with touchpad ^^" In the future I will add an alternative option for controls, or maybe even see if I can let user set their own controls

it was fun to play. i liked the improvment. also there were really coll atmosphere for an phoenix. nice colors. congrats for submission :)

Developer

Thank you for playing and glad you enjoyed it!

Liked the visual style and the gameplay, it's quite fun, I was playing longer that I'd care to admit hahaha good job! :)

Developer(+1)

That "played longer than I'd care to admit" part put a big smile on me :D I'm glad you enjoyed the game, thank you for giving it a try!

Looks well put together visually, i did find that using my laptop trackpad after shooting a few times the left click would not work at all. does the bird drop stamina after shooting and stop it from flying???

or have you got some code that doesn't prioritize fly left-click???

but welldone for submitting it and visually you have done a great job, only the fact i couldn't fly up at times ruined it for me.

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for playing!

What you are describing must be a bug, as I have never implemented any stamina system of anything of the sort! I was not able to reproduce it so far, but I will keep it in mind and try to to see if I can fix it!

Plays really well, every death felt like it was my fault (with maybe the exception of the steep tunnel drop while at higher speed, but eh, maybe I'm wrong!) and I enjoyed the overall theme and ambience, well done :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your feedback! Glad you enjoyed both gameplay and aesthetics :)

Stylish and snazzy. I love the colour scheme and presentation.

Nice controlling of the player. The game reminded me of Flappy Bird, only with significantly more class.

Vacuuming up the pickups is satisfying. I love that the level generation seems randomised.

Great choice of music too!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your comment and for playing the game!

It really is a slightly fancier Flappy Bird :D I realised that mid-development, after days of listening to epic rock music and reading up on phoenix and its legend for inspiration, so it was quite an experience.

You're very welcome! :D

Oooh. That does sound like quite an awesome environment to be doing a game jam in, and it seems to have carried through to create an epic atmosphere with your soundtrack (and death sound) and colour palette!

A phoenix is a great fit for the theme! Love the music and atmosphere. The fireball sfx seems at odds with the rest of the audio. I love the idea of being able to upgrade the phoenix. Well done!

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your feedback! Glad that you thinkthat the theme is fitting! And indeed, I feel like a lot of sfx are unfitting to the bgm, so this is one of the things I will be improving once i restart the development :)

I really love the colours and the art style you chose! The music puts me in a very serene state... and then BOOOOOM! I think some more muted audio feedback would have been better to mesh with the rest of the game°^^ Why does my phoenix need to buy stuff with dollars? :P And having a health upgrade seems weird when I still die in one hit from the obstacles that are not enemies. Overall a great foundation that still needs some refining!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your feedback!

Sfx 100% need to be improved, the only sfx I personally think are ok are the upgrade sound and maybe coin collection 😅 And, technically, the dollar sign should have been replaced with the icon of a point, but alas, I delayed learning how to include icons in text until the very last minute, and then I ran out of time.  Your feedback about health upgrade is a very common and very important feedback point - thisis something I will be looking into first thing once I pick up the development of this game again.

Once again thank you for your feedback, and thank you for playing!

I really liked it, has a nice overall color pallet.   I played a few time and enjoyed that the obstacles changed. Lots of potential here...

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! I am glad you enjoyed it, and happy to hear that the color palette looks good, as I kept going back and fourth between being satisfied with it and wanting to change it 😅

Hey, great job with your game! I really liked the aesthetics here. Maybe one suggestion I would have is for the normal obstacles/walls that cause an instant lose state, how about having them deal health damage instead? A lot of the time I felt like my upgrades were useless because most of my runs resulted in me dying from a wall or moving obstacle rather than enemies which it seems that is where the upgrades come into play.

Congrats on getting out a submission though and keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing my game and leaving a review!

It really doesn't help that I didn't optimize a lot of obstacles in time, so oftentimes they can really seem unavoidable. But your feedback about feeling like your upgrades are useless because of that is an incredibly good point as well. It's definitely an issue I am going to prioritize once I continue with game's development.

Submitted(+1)

The art style is simple but beautiful, and the game is fun and relaxing to play. I think it would be better if we could also move on the x axis, because sometimes I feel like the obstacles are just unavoidable, unless it is done on purpose for the "Death is only the beginning" perhaps?

Developer

Hey thank you so much for playing and for your review!

It's definitely not on purpose that obstacles are unavoidable. Unfortunately I failed to tweak all of them in time in such a way that there is always a possibility to avoid them. There is one obstacle which was designed to look impossible to pass, but actually has a small opening that player can use 100% of the time, but the rest of the obstacles just weren't optimized.

Being able to move on the x axis at least to some degree could definitely be intersting! Thank you for your suggestion 🙂

the hitbox of the bird is huuuge. and the death sound is unbearable

Developer

Thank you for your rating and feedback! Haha, sound design in general is kinda weak I feel, and I would most definitely improve on it in the future 😅
