At first when I first played I didn't have much clue as to how to set up my deck, but once I learned to stack up damage amplificators on held weapons, it became a cakewalk. I observed that if you kill enemies fast enough, you can basically keep killing them indefinitely until you get tired of spawncamping robotic eyeballs for hours.

As a testament to successfully figuring things out, I got 3rd on the leaderboard with a sword build (The greatsword seems to swing for the longest time and not get you in harm's way unlike the Spear), so now I'm free to try out other builds. Having so many lives actually made me have to stand still and wait to get slain by the robots since I had so much reserve lives.

Hey, glad to finally play this one! I am happy to report that it did not make me nauseated while playing, so hooray!

I think this is a good proof of concept, and it does some cool things, but just missed the mark for me. I really like the idea of cycling through different attacks and being able to deck build that set. However, all the numbers and stuff on the cards felt like there was too much going on and I ended up spamming through my cards hoping that they did stuff. Generally swords are close, guns are far, and anything else I should just use immediately. It was a little weird gameplay wise to get a deck full of sheaths and whetstones. For a jam game though, this is all minor stuff. A very good entry still!

Great job on this one and keep making cool games!

Developer

wait till you use those whetstones on your swords - 43 damage katana hell yeah

I really like the juiciness of the attacks and the enemies.

Well done creating the soundEffects, impactEffects for hitting and killing enemies.

Neat upgrading system with cards to upgrade and add variety to your abilities.

It's a joy to use your card abilities.
Bonus points for creating a leaderboard system as well.

Really great job creating a game and submitting it!

Could do with instructions, I don't know if I was doing it wrong or I was bugged but I didn't seem to be able to attack most of the time and after a death the mobs were on me before I could get oriented and look at the cards I'd drawn and then I died.
On top of instructions it would be good to ease the player into the mechanics of the cards and the different abilities and possibly costs? It looked like they had costs but it wasn't clear

Developer

Give the game another try, theres no costs in the game, but cards have different cooldowns. In general the more powerful cards have longer cooldowns,  and the cards should turn grey when they cant be used, which was probably what you were talking about. There are instructions on the game page on itch

Ah right, because its a download game the submission page doesn't have the big green Go To Game's Itch page button so I didn't see the instructions (I did look!)

Nice concept and execution. A bit too fast and chaotic for me, but that's probably my age showing 😁.

I'm not sold on the card mechanic, feels like a complex way to have multiple weapons, but maybe future iterations will expand it and make it better.

If you plan to keep developing it, keep an eye for flashing lights, as it can be bad for people with photosensitivity.

Good work, and good luck!

Great work! It was a very interesting idea to combine RNG elements to buy more options with deaths.

The only issue I had was the controls (to use cards) were a bit clumsy for a fast paced shooter.

Very slick!

It did take me a while to pick up that I could use Mouse 1, 2, or 3 to cast my cards instead of stretching to #1, #2, and #3 while moving with WASD. Once I understood I could use the mouse (despite the keypad icons above the cards) the game became very enjoyable.

Also, the minute I wished that there was another enemy type one of the ones that could shoot spawned. So nice work there.

The music and sound effects and feedback were spot on.

I think you should polish this one up. I had a ton of fun.

Developer(+2)

there are actually 4 different enemy types, and for the mouse thingy I was hoping that people who didn't know would just die and read the text on the top of the death screen

To start out with the rougher side of my experience, I did manage to brick the inventory in this game and I feel like it took me a second to really grasp how the inventory worked. I also feel like supporting Mouse3 or Mouse4 as an alternative to Mouse2 would be nice since my scroll wheel is less than responsive. In terms of improvements, I think an enemy that walks on the ground would be a nice addition as they would consistently be in range of your melee driven attacks.

With that out of the way– wow! I love the visuals, the use of music, the combat feel, everything about this is slick and polished. If you track down the inventory bug and add a little flavor in terms of menus or progression I think you have a solid and commercially viable arcade game on your hands. Congrats on the submission!

Great visuals. The cards are cool. But it's very busy on the screen. Maybe slowly bringing the character to this level is an option. Like a simple enemy to start with to learn how to use the cards. Great sound and effects.

I really enjoyed the game from start to finish. Although I did encounter a bug where the cards stopped spawning after some time. It is definitely a 5/5 on all aspects

What an amazing game!
The design is flawless, and the implementation is so good it's inspirational.

Played and rated. An amazing submission. My playtest score is around 56k.

Pros

  • Outstanding visuals
  • Great Sound effects and Music
  • Fun gameplay experience
  • Theme fits perfectly
  • Highscore panel at the end to compete on the leaderboard

Cons

  • Deck shuffling randomly makes it hard to keep track of what skill we can use

Overall an outstanding submission to me. I don't see any negative points besides the random decks from my experience.

Itch io feedback:

  • Your itch io page should have screenshots and gifs of the game, it will really make it stand and attract players as the the quality of the game is amazing.

Would appreciate if you check out and rate our game as well: https://hadilepanda.itch.io/rise-of-necromancy

Nice to hear you enjoyed the music. Thanks!

pretty well polished , i found  the mechanic of having to aim at your enemies and look at your cards to pick your attack a little difficult

Actually insanely well thought out and made. Bravo!

An amazing and satisfying game! Great job! I really loved the overall feel of the game! I did get a little lost in all that was happening, in a way that I did not know why I died or if I hit what I wanted to hit. I would also maybe start with a smaller card pool in the beginning and then as you get closer to true death add more cards. Something like this is probably allready in the game but I could not really figure out what one card did before I got 5 new ones. The music muffeling on death was a great touch! I might have just missed it but is there a way to close the game? °^^ Oh and in the beginning I was like damn I wish I could lover my sensitivity and then I looked at the menu and lo and behold there it was! Great eye for detail!

This is really good, feels good, plays good, really amazing great job guys. Music and sound on point.

Thanks for playing!

Damn this was really great! The visuals and the punch of the combat. Did you take inspiration from Devil Daggers?

Developer(+1)

at the start, nah, but then people were like "this game looks like devil daggers!" so i just copied devil daggers after that lol
