This was fun! The major problem I had while playing this was the lack of audio feedback when being hit - especially when coming from the back, I could not even tell I was being chased and took some hits that should have been easy to avoid.

Other than that, it's very fun!

The first few moments really grabs you into a true horror vibe like Silent Hill. Excellent team effort. Full marks.  😀

Wow, you nailed the ps1 vibe, which elevated an already really well done survival horror. The one thing I was missing was a little audio feedback when you're hit, as sometimes the rabid ethans would attack from behind and it took a sec to realized why the screen was going red. Really great work on your game, though. This was super impressive.

Loved the aesthetics !! I really like creepy and quite atmosphere of the game. I'm glad  I played this game in day time :) I think only missing think is a footstep sound or some kind of indication of nearby enemies but it didn't affect my overall experience. I enjoyed it! Well done !!!

Well made horror game, it gave the creepy feel throughout the entire thing. I also loved that there was a thing staring at you through a window on a ceiling. I think that an audio sound would help when those guys spawn in. Very nice game!

Well executed horror games, it does have the right vibes and we actually really enjoyed the pixelated aesthetics, it makes the game feel spookier exactly because nothing is defined in a perfectly realistic way, making it so that you end up lacking the sense of safety familiarity gives you.
Only improvement we would suggest is to add more eerie sounds, especially to the black figures. Would make encountering them much more of a jumpscare since some of them are not too unpredictable. Good job with the game and in your future endeavours! o/

Amazing! this is one of the best entries i´ve seen. I liked it a lot. You really succed in creating an scary atmosphere, also the level design is neat. Nice one guys. Also i would aprecciate you trying my game.

Interesting game. A bit too dispersive maybe, but nice concept, nice atmosphere, and well done!

Excellent submission! I love the atmosphere. Uncovering the story was very satisfying. I love the aesthetic of the game as well, and the size of the game was impressive for only being made in 10 days.

If I had to give any advice, it would be adding some variety to the combat, because as is it was just a slight hindrance on progressing, and it didn't really feel like it added anything to the game. But the focus seemed to be on the environment and storytelling anyway, so it really didn't take that much away from the experience.

Overall, great job! One of the more unique entries I've come across. :)

Very spooky! I loved the combination of horror with a 3D pixel retro aesthetic. Nice to see a survival horror FPS as a game jam entry!

The shadows were creepy and well animated. I was very impressed with the size and variety and detail in the environment. A lot of work clearly went into that, and also setting the mood with the audio, the lighting, and the writing.

I loved that I accidentally ended up walking up a few trees. It seems like you've got the gameplay area carefully bounded off with tall invisible walls though, so good job with that! :)

I unfortunately made the mistake of not seeing the known issues before playing, and walked through a black door. It's a shame there wasn't a restart point at the stairs!

Very nice entry, super atmospheric. Well done! :)

Creeeeepy! When the first enemies appeared I peed a little!

Cool game!

Can you play mine, if you have the time? :)

Developer (1 edit)

Haha, thanks for playing! :D
And of course, checking out your game :)

Horror isn't really my fav genre, but I really liked the work and polish put into this game. The aesthetics and sound really gave itself to the unnerving feeling, and the story that was laid out was really compelling.

Submitted(+1)

This was fun! At least on my view, the notes and texts were a bit small and hard to read. Great submission!

Submitted(+1)

I can tell your team put a lot of work into this one, impressive for only 10 days! I'm not huge on horror though so I chickened out before the end lol.

Submitted(+1)

First I want to say that I am not a fan of the genre so I appreciate the lack of jump shocks!
You've got an impressive amount of work done in the time.  I'm not sure if I missed some things or maybe I picked up the needed items before I got to the place where I needed them so never got the "missing x" message because I seemed to pick up a few things I didn't use.
In one of the areas there was a guy on the floor sitting and nothing happened when I shot at him and when I went up to him he disappeared. In this style of game I couldn't tell if that was a glitch or intentional.
I would have liked a greater rate of fire on my gun, even if that meant the enemies have more health or are faster.
I did like the ludicrously long stairs to get to the basement, going down there with only 7 bullets, very imposing. But coming up, I had to bunny hop up the first set of stairs which somewhat takes you out of the mood.
Also in the basement there seemed to be a reflection or ghost image of the gun, was that intentional?

When I first loaded in, it seemed like there was some weird artifact going on in the corner of my vision - I think it might have been the karaoke machine just creating some weird purple/green pixels at the edge of the screen when you look around.

I would have preferred an interact button for the notes, just because they would pop up while I was trying to fight and there's no way to get rid of them I don't think.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing! Yes, I really didn't wanna do jumpscares, I wanted to focus more on feeling and atmosphere. Some of the shadow guys are definitely bugged, some of them don't despawn or despawn at the wrong time xD As for the gun's rate of fire, I think a small amount of tuning is also needed to make it fun to use. Others have also made the same feedback for the other cons you mentioned and I promise I've noted all of them down. I appreciate the feedback :)

This game is sick!

The visuals are great aesthetics are top-notch, and it's quite creepy, the notes were really intruding!

But then, I died, I went through one of the black doors in the long hallway and fell off and died, it wasn't very pleasant you know :/

also clicking Ctrl shoots, I think you missed that in the input system ('-_-)

I found a couple bugs on my second playthrough:

first, you can walk up this tree

second, I didn't fall at the end XD

Also, there was a (?) next to "THE END", does that mean there is another ending or is it hyping the sequel? It's kinda cool ngl XD

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hi, thanks for playing and getting to the end! Originally there was gonna be a second level, where you drop into deep murky water and get chased by a big shadow creature in the water. However I had to cut out that part and just tacked in an arbitrary end part due to the time constraints. There was so much I wanted to do in terms of level design and progression :(

Also thanks for pointing out the bugs, some others have found them too, especially the tree-climbing one, and the void doors. You can probably tell the doors were going to be something that was cut and replaced with a kill trigger xD I'm looking into fixing most of those issues and then expanding the game after the game jam ends :) Thanks again!

Very cool. Great job on atmosphere. Whole game was quite scary. I enjoyed the zombie/monster type creates. The story was dark and grim, but interesting.

Developer

Thank you for playing! :)

I should have read the warning not to walk into black doors before playing lol. Other than that - quite spooky. I would prefer it if the enemies were a bit faster. They didn't feel like a threat after the first couple encounters.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback. When I first released the game on here, some of the early feedback complained that the enemies were too fast, so I slowed them down a little bit xD They were originally faster. But I totally understand why they'd be slow for others too. There's a balance here that I haven't found just yet.

Liked the Slender-style vibe of essentially blindly wandering through the dark with nothing but a flashlight and your birthday suit. Absolutely LOVED the retro 3d art style too. We floated going with that style in our game as well, but you did it justice. Those spirit/creatures created a lot of tension. Great Job!

Theme interpretation was a bit loosey-goosey, but it's a jam, and you clearly had fun making this :)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for the feedback. As for the theme, yes I agree it could be a little more related to it. Honestly if I was able to tie in more of the story to the gameplay it would've been more in-theme. There was a mechanic I wanted to implement where when you die, you keep your items, and therefore be able to progress without completely starting over. But due to time constraints I had to cancel the feature :( I'm glad you liked the aesthetic, it was a big deal for us.

We had to cut the level end sequence from ours, so I definitely identify with that haha
Great job! :)

Really nice shooter, I liked the horror/creepy setting. Well done!!!

Developer

Thank you :)
