Nice game!
I liked the simple gameplay and it's clear you add a lot of polish, good job bro!
btw if you can play the game that I made and give me some feedback I really appreciate it :)
Great game for a first game, I played it on my livestream tonight and gave a bit of feedback. If you want you can see the replay here
Hi, thanks for playing the game. It is interesting to actually see somone else play the game. I like the idea of animating the background, the one i used was just a skybox I made out of convenience, but it should be a simple fix to do an animated one and it would get away from that static feel.
Cool first game! I feel some fine tuning and polish could be applied: to the game UI, some player anim and some more sound tracks or even dynamic music. The gold collection was getting boring and slow after a while, I would shorten the levels or spawn the gold more often (but maybe the first option is better to get the feeling that you are progressing). Overall it's very nice presentation, the gameloop works nicely, well done and continue developing :)
Thanks. I'm happy you liked it. I'm hoping to spend some time and give the game a more polished feel. I have been using the feedback to put together a list of improvements, it has been really helpfull.
If you require full screen mode so much it would be better if the initial windowed mode would be smaller so one can get the "set to full screen" button more easily.
The first time in windowed mode it stuttered at times and didn't react to my inputs for a moment and then the ship jumped a bit, which made it somewhat extra difficult. Second time in full-screen mode went much better, but sometime around level 5 (I think) my shooting performance really dropped and I couldn't practically crack any asteroid anymore because I could not shoot at them often enough. Was this intentional as a difficulty ramp-up or a bug?
Movement felt slightly jerky at times but (appart from the windowed-mode stuttering on my first try) fine.
As for the gold nuggets not dropping quickly enough, flying up to them to grab them helps a lot ;)
What exactly does the scanner mark? At later levels there are rocks that don't get triggered. At first I took it as "this rock is invincible / too hard to crack" - until I shot one.
Thanks for the feedback, I just tried the game on a laptop with a smaller screen and with less power and hit some of the same problems.
I think part of the problem is that I created the UI for my system so used a stupidly high resolution for the game. I need to build to a smaller resolution that can then be expanded or do multiple resolutions and scale to fit. The stuttering in later levels is probably a bug, I didn't optimize the models for the asteroids they are probably far more complex than they needed to be, the technique I used to generate them in blender looks good but is a bit polygon intensive. I think stuttering is when there are too many objects on the screen.
Having a lower base resolution with some upscaling would probably give a good boost to the performance.
As for the slowdown in the later level I didn't have the impression there were more objects on the screen than before (and there were certainly more at the times I shot an asteroid and all its fragments blow all over the screen).
A continuously worsening performance could be a sign that you spawn more and more objects (bullets, asteroids) that don't get cleaned up properly once they served there purpose. So either re-use them or make sure they get cleaned up properly, so they don't add up and drain the performance away...
Is this really your first game ever? It’s pretty good! More variety would help make it better.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I am looking at expanding it into a full game with more distinct levels and hopefully will be able to use different music and sound effects to make the game feel less repetitive. It is my first game, having a deadline really helped me focus and get a proper structure in place and limit it so it could be done within the time limit.
Good shooter game!! Loved the scanner but I found the music a tad bit repetitive. Good work!
Great job on this, I really liked the way asteroids exploded and the particles fly away in the space. that felt real good lol. what I can suggest is making the game a bit faster ( if you decide to work on this more) like make it more stressy to avoid asteroids and collect gold.
Good stuff! This is a solid start on a cool little shooter game. If you continue working on it, it might be nice to have some more feedback systems in place. For example, when the player bullets hit the asteroids (a particle effect maybe?). As others have said, I also think the game could have a faster pace. As it stands, you're kinda stuck waiting for the gold to fall once it spawns and you miss out shooting the other asteroids. Overall though, nicely done. :)
I am looking at how can expand the game and the idea of feedback had not occurred to me. I will have a look at a couple of ways to give the player some idea of how much damage they are doing to the asteroids, maybe some way of changing the colour of the asteroids as their hitpoints drop and I like the idea of particle effect explosions for each bullet hit. Thanks for the feedback, it really helps.
Great shooter game! I agree with the others that this could be expanded upon with enemies and more things going on in the map. You should definitely continue on with it. Great work for a 2 week submission!
Solid little shooter, needs a bit more going on (enemies, power ups, faster speed, etc.)
But all works and plays as I believe it was intended too, so great job!
I like it, but it feels a little repetitive over time. Could have been nice to have enemies of some sort.
I'm happy you liked it. Enemies would be nice. I haven't had a great deal of practice doing enemy A.I. but it would be a nice challenge.
Alot of fun. Didnt find any bugs so very good job. Well done.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. This game jam has been fun.
Fun space shooter set up :).
My suggestions would be shorter levels, and ramp things up more. It felt a little slow paced.
But the concepts solid, the controls feel good, and the mine checker was a nice touch.
Nice job on this, well done.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It definatley needs more variation in levels now that I have had time to play it a bit more. If I take it further I will probably add more challenges and add a more of a difficulty curve to make it more interesting.
Simple and fun Idea, I would have chosen a more pixel look, it ain't need that high graphics :)
I really like the 3d menu, the whole menu and settings are well done!
The music is also nice and fits to the game!
My original idea was to use voxel models but I quickly realized I needed a lot more practice at making the models. But I agree it would have made a great look for this type of game.
A simple game. Fun to play. Nice work.
Simple idea and well executed, good job! I would suggest making the fire button be something you can hold down. Since the asteroids take so many hits, you end up clicking repeatedly and I could see my finger getting sore from it. Would be a good accessibility improvement. A level progress indicator would be good, too. I'm not sure what was new about level 2 vs level 1 either.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great entry. The graphics are nice, the movement feels really good (after comments are saying you doubled it?), and the audio is great. I always appreciate volume controls in a jam game and you excelled in that. Overall, great entry! Good job!
Thanks. I agree about needing something to make the levels more distinctively different. I admit it is a lack of testing time. But this has been a great learning experience.
For a simple idea you have done great, I got to level 3 and pink spinning coins started floating down, might be a material issue. I couldn't collect them and they didn't destroy me. I like the explosions the asteroids make and was hoping for a powerup, future update?
Yes, in the slight rush to finish yesterday I forgot to add a collider to the object. So it was impossible to collect. I had implemented the pink spinning disks are extra lives, and the other 2 types are weapons upgrades to 2 and 3 guns. I really need to work on my texturing skills.
I second the motion to make everything faster.
I like the effort you've put in. My main improvement would be to allow the player (rocket) to move faster, that would make it more fun. Well done!
