That creepy mood is well done with the good creepy audio on it x) I played on easy because I am easily scared, but nice work ! I'm happy i found the final exit x)
Very intimidating and intense. Gets scarier and scarier as you proceed further. The music feels like it's talking to you, and then the words on the walls - literally talking to you. Absolutely thrilled. Great job.
i saw this in the stream and now i've played it. Really good design and love the artwork. Excellent job.
I'm confused, but in a good way. This was uncomfortable in so many ways... Really nailed the mood and that light and shadow play. I did keep spamming jump all the time though, as I felt it was making me go way faster.
Nailed the mood. I like the feel of it. I had no idea where to go though. I spent time following different colours and ended up looping ot got lost. There didn't seem to be a reason to have the jump and when the timer hit 0, my guy just ran forward to no end.
Would be cool to build this into something bigger with some more lore in the environment, etc. Way to go!
Very spooky and trippy! Love how things get weirder as the levels progress. I got about four levels in before I ran out of time.
Love the Dali meets Alice and Wonderland vibe when I saw it in the first stream, had to come back and play it. It was great fun and suspenseful. Great submission!
Good job! I like that you made an easy mode, and thanks to that, normal mode can be merciless for a player :D In one moment you get this feeling of despair that everything looks the same and it's impossible to go out from here. Maze as a very popular motive in movies, mostly is made as a pretty boring/irritating element in video games, I think you achieved to overcome that.
Also I saw your page on ArtStation and it looks very, very, very interesting from this upper perspective (also graphics look better IMHO). I know it's harder to make a "maze" feeling when you see surrounding rooms, but maybe it could be also a worth trying conception?
My biggest problem was with movement, specifically that you can’t stop moving immediately, and because of that I couldn’t really read most of the writings – I didn’t want to lost time for aiming to stop in a good position.
Thanks, appreciate all the comments and the effort you made to test.
Happy you like the easy mode too, that was a last few days decisions to add :)
Yes I am still tweaking the movement, it uses the new Input Controller and is coded to have a maximum speed that you accelerate and decelerate to.
One of the decisions you need to make in the game is to run hard or to stop and read the messages, putting that choice there creates a conflict in the player (at least the first time). I refer to that in one of the messages on the way that asks "Do you have time to read this?
I'll have a play with increasing the stopping speed but I like some conflict to be there :)
I also agree that a minimap ( I think that's what you are suggesting) for easy mode would be good too.
this game gave me the creeps. I couldn't trust even one word written on the walls lol.
I don't know if it was just my mind playing tricks on me or not but at some points I heard some foot steps and I legit got scared for my life also one time I passed a light and saw my shadow and got goosebumps thinking for a second actually someone is following me.
haven't escaped from the maze yet. but I will try my best to do it.
great vibe and mood. and the music choice was brilliant. awesome work thumbs up.
Glad it had an effect on you, my son said to me "even if there is no threat, make it feel like there is one", so Bradley and I did our best :)
Most of the messages on the wall are accurate, gold lights the way, but with only one of three exits in normal mode not all gold helps.
And it does get darker as the time runs out, hitting good clocks makes it brighter again.
And of course, not every speed and time boost is a positive bonus.
Thanks for playing.
Thumbs up to Bradley for his amazing idea. I definitely was feeling threatened.
I was thinking probably some of these messages are actually trying to help me but stuff like "your mind is your worst enemy" made me not trust them lol. felt like they were written by another person who previously was trapped in the maze and went crazy lol.
When I tell you that this game is strange, I hope you take it as the compliment it is intended to be. Movement, not great. Atmosphere? Really cool! Very off putting aesthetic. Reminds me of Xen in Half Life, or the creepy parts of Psychonauts. I think I was on the last level when I ran out of time because of a room full of dud clocks. Has my vote for creepiest entry to the jam!
Very cool level design, the atmo is great! Movement still needs some work, but game is playable it after getting used to. I really liked that you have a highscore which you actually save :D
Spent all my time trying to find the first exit, despite my best maze solving techniques. The hint about following the gold lights probably cost me 2 mins.
Movement controls should be improved I think. Its floaty right now and the glacial speed doesn't match the super shuffle the character is doing. I vote increasing speed and reducing the time you have to solve the maze to make up for it.
Thanks, yes I need to spend more time on the player controller and animation.
I got to the point where I didn't want to risk breaking it altogether so I stopped tweaking it, but it is an unfinished challenge.
I also want to play with adding more mass to the rigidbody and increasing the forces to give it a better feel and remove that floatiness.
My first attempt to use Unity's new input controller.
Thanks for confirming this opinion.
The atmosphere and the audio is certainly very eerie (I hope that's what you're going for :D). Movement is a bit clunky, especially the jump animation - but the control is solid! Good job on making this in 2 weeks!
I don't think this is my style of game. The tank controls were a little strange to get used to and the rooms were a little too mazelike, in that it was hard to keep a mental map. That's the point of a maze - I get that - but I'd hope there's room for design in a full release to help the player navigate more easily.
Congrats on busting this out in two weeks! There seems to be a good amount here and it looks really nice and fleshed out. I imagine that's a lot tougher in a 3rd person 3d game. The music was just unnerving enough to make me not want to play a second time to try to finish lol. Not my kind of game :)
Good job and well done!
To ease the difficulty we created an easy mode, so people can get to the end and get a high score and have a good look at all levels.
In normal mode there is only one exit on each level.
In easy mode all exits are available (up to 3 per level).
It does mean you get a * by your highscore but you get to have a look around.
I was trying to decide whether to do a minimap showing the exits or enable all exits for the easy mode and went with multiple exits.
Maybe I'll add a minimap also to easy mode.
I'm sorry its not your style of game but appreciate the feedback.
I love the atmosphere on this one. Its very tense and a good mazer / puzzle solver :D
nice work!
The lighting is epic too :D
