Really great art and story! Not sure we can trust this Aderaz guy though... are we quite sure the you know who was you know what instead of going you know where?!
Haha, maybe we'll learn more about Aderaz one day. Thank you for playing!
Man I genuinely love your pixel art; it totally fits the vibe for a project like this. While playing, I kept thinking about where a project like this could go. I could very easily see it broadening with more exploration, items, puzzles, and maybe some more characters to talk to. Nice Work!
Side note but it still blows my mind this runs on actual hardware. So cool that people can just do that these days
Thank you so much! I definitely agree on all those things that could be incoporated, I would really love to make a more non-linear Hagrode game.
A neat little story. The art is great, the closeup pixel art especially. (And whether or not it was a technical limitation) I thought the small detail of the color pallet changing near the end when the light speaks was brilliant.
The music was somewhat grating, but had a unique tone to it, and was very well made given the hardware limitations. Lastly, I did want to note that the movement was somewhat slippery, even though that doesn't really matter for this type of game.
Overall - I can tell that a lot more thought and writing went into this than is shown in the game, and I have a great respect for that. Well done!
Thanks a lot! Yeah, sorry the movement sucks in the future I’ll definitely play around more with better platformer movement plugins. Also the colours changing when the Light speaks is a technical thing that happened entirely by accident, but I liked how it looked too 😄
Really enjoyed playing through this, the pixel art was simple but well thought out and gave everything a fun retro feel. The music was brilliant! Gave the entire game a nice eerie feel and again, hit that nostalgia factor. I even went back and played the other two Hagrode games and as a series I really like them and cant wait to see where the series goes from here :]
Thank you so much, I’d love to make a really expansive Hagrode outside of the jam. Maybe one day 🤔
TO BE HONEST, I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT LIKE THE MUSICAL ACCOMPANIMENT) I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS SUCH A STYLE, BUT I COULDN'T STAND IT)
The music isn't a style, it's limited to hardware limitations of a GameBoy.
Damn this was so good. Very Lovecraftian writing which I love. Plus the pixel art is amazing. Going to check the other two Hagrode games now.
Thank you so much, that means a lot to me!
I loved the dread that builds the further and further you descend, the story was so much fun to read as you play. I think the hopelessness of cosmic horror really came across well here too. The audio and art intertwine so well, made me nostalgic for when I used to play Pokemon Leafgreen as a kid!
Great game!
Thank you so much!
Interesting little game, I can tell a lot of thought was put into the wordlbuilding and lore! The retro vibes were really on point too :) nice job!!
Thanks :)
Interesting story and worldbuilding - I immediately went to play the previous games for more lore. Also loved the art and music!
Thank you, I’m glad you liked the world building. Also I’m glad you went to try out the others :)
Loved the pixel art, in particular the statues and the colour choices. The music was spot on, too. The whole game was just dripping with those tasty retro vibes.
Thanks so much for the comment!
An experience that really manages to capture the charm of retro games! I love that it conveys so much even with graphics like that, and apart from the game pausing a bit when finishing climbing the stairs, I didn't encounter any other issues. I'll definitely be checking out the previous ones!
Thank you!
This was an interesting story, and I'm going to look up the previous ones now that I know they exist. Movement was a little wonky, with the acceleration and deceleration and the animation not matching the movement it made it a little tough to control, but I would definitely keep playing the rest of the games in the series despite that little hurdle.
Thanks! Yeah I understand where you are coming from, for the time I just used the default GB Studio platformer movement, it might be something I could tweak with a plugin or something.
Probably my favorite entry from the ones you have made Luke! And the fact that I can play it on my miyoo mini just adds even more cool factor to this.
The art was really well made, the sprites were fun to see, and the sound was appropriate for the title! Great stuff and loving the supplemental materials!
Thanks dude I really appreciate the lovely comment!
cool as hell graphics frfr
Thanks a lot :D
An awesome short story! Really like the art-style and overall it feels very polished.
I did encounter what I presume is a bug, though not sure if it's on my end or otherwise. Playing through a Firefox browser, the time taken to dismount a ladder seemed to increase as the game went on, until the point it was taking well over 10 seconds by the end of the game. Other than this minor niggle, great!
Thank you! That bug is strange I haven’t encountered it myself in Firefox, hopefully it won’t become a problem for too many people. Thanks for playing :)
