Wow this one had such a cool design, really loved the segments of the books they were very atmospheric, and the writing was superb! It really transported me to that Victorian style of writing that I adore.
The ambience, and music was on point and so is the voice overs, rarely do I see voice overs as good as this.
This was a really cool metroidvenia style game!
Thank you so much! That's some really nice feedback, we're so happy you enjoyed the game! Especially so that you enjoyed the writing, I was a tad concerned it may be "too much", but I had far too much fun writing it to consider toning it down.
Very cool style!
Thanks very much!
Great atmosphere. I really liked the art and the voice acting was great. I loved how when you moved the clock the pixel art would match whatever time you set. Well done!
Thank you! I put a bit too much time into getting the clocks to work and synchronize so it's awesome to hear that somebody appreciated it.
Really good scares with how the map and enemies change as time passes, this one was a lot of fun! I really loved the art style, the character sprites were really well animated. The voice acting was a really good addition and adds to the immersion!
Thank you! Awesome to hear that you had fun with it. We had a great time recording and implementing the voice lines, though it was rather a lot of work. Very glad to hear that people have been enjoying it.
A very thrilling experience, the audio is perfect and the graphics reminded me a lot of the Clock Tower game! The idea of discovering the story of the game in text excerpts was quite interesting to me, and the transformation of the father was very surprising, because like another comment I swore he was the protagonist's brother.
Hi! Thank you for your comments! Clock Tower was definitely an inspiration so it's awesome to see somebody pick up on that. Indeed the character originally in the bedroom is Nathanael, the protagonist's brother. Jebediah, the father, is the character in the cage in the library. We're hoping to improve the narrative and make it clearer in future updates because, as it stands, it is definitely a bit unclear (ambitious scope meets deadline ... casualties ensue).
Again, thanks for your comment, we're very happy you enjoyed it! Will be trying out your game later this evening - I am looking forward to it!
Great voice acting and I liked the art and especially the player animation. Might be better to show the text a little bit at a time so you don't scare the player off. It was fun exploring and finding all the interesting details like the bat outside and the creepy butcher room.
Hi! Thank you so much! We had a great deal of fun recording the voice lines. And thanks for the feedback regarding the text, we'll definitely work on that for future updates.
I haven't gotten round to trying your game yet but I'm looking forward to it - the art looks awesome!
Haha, yeah, our artist got really excited for his first game jam and produced a ton of awesome artwork.
I really liked the atmosphere of the game. I did struggle a bit with downloading and getting the game to run on my laptop, and was very confused at first with the concept of time in-game. I couldn’t get far but I would love to keep trying at it!
Hi, thanks so much for trying out our game and for the feedback!
If I may ask, what issues did you have getting the game to run? And yea, definitely the progression is something that we want to work on for future updates. If you'd like to experience the full game, there is a written walk-through on our itch page which lists the steps required to solve the game.
Thanks again for giving it a shot!
P.S. I really enjoyed your game, one of my favorites so far.
This was a little hard to play, but I really enjoyed the look of it. At first there was just a guy chilling next to me, so I assumed he was my brother. Then he started following me and chilling with me, so I was like "Oh, hey!" He followed me for a while and didn't bother me. Then he choked me out a few times and then stopped and wandered around. I wasn't able to get terribly far but I would have liked to. I just noticed there is a walkthrough and I'm not terribly sure I'd have been able to get that far on my own.
Hi, thanks for trying our game!
Yep, that's totally fair. I think that making the gameplay clearer is definitely our number one priority for future updates. I was trying to lean into the idea of putting the player in a situation and letting them figure things out on the fly - very much inspired by the PT "Silent Hills" demo, but ultimately I think it's definitely just too opaque.
Thanks again for giving our game a shot and for the feedback!
No problem, I hope you do keep working on it. If you don't mind my saying so, you might want to work on the character movement a little bit. Out of anything, that was really what made me enjoy playing the least. The writing was great, the graphics were fantastic, but the movement felt a little weird.
I don't mind at all! We're novice game devs and getting good criticism so that we can improve is our number one priority at this stage. I'll definitely take a look at the movement. Thanks!
Absolutely nailed the atmosphere! Great visuals, but I'll admit I got a little lost after a while.
Admittedly, probably a skill issue. I have trouble with big blocks of text, so if there were tips in there I might've glossed over it. It'd be helpful to have a logbook of sorts that could automatically keep track of the relevant information for gameplay if that's important.
Really neat to hear voice acting in a jam game though! Really well done, and the spritework was really cool!
Thanks for the feedback!
No I think the progression is definitely a failure on my part. I wanted to try and encourage players to try and explore and pick up subtle clues to progress, but in reality I found it very difficult to design clues that were organic and easy to pick up on. An issue compounded I think by the somewhat convoluted nature of our story and cosmic horror in general.
Great suggestion with the logbook, I will definitely give this some serious thought for future updates.
P.S. there is a walk-through on our Itch page with the puzzle solution if you weren't able to make it through and would like to see how it plays out! I definitely had the feeling last night that this was going to be an issue haha.
Thanks so much again for your kind words and highly valuable feedback. :)
