How does the game fit the theme?
My game fits the theme "Nothing can go wrong.." by creating a high-pressure scenario where everything can go wrong at any moment. The player is constantly racing against the rising lava, and even the smallest mistake—like mistiming a jump or slipping off a platform—can lead to failure. The theme is reflected in the tension and urgency of the gameplay, where the player is always one step away from disaster. Despite their best efforts, the threat of the lava reminds them that nothing is guaranteed, and everything can go wrong in an instant.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
For this game, I used some third-party assets that are authorized for use. Specifically:
The character sprites, platform sprites, background art, and sound effects were sourced from third-party creators.
All the code, including the player movement, lava mechanics, and level design, was written by me specifically for this project.

How many people worked on the game?

I like the fast pace nature of this one, but the jump is very floaty and it doesn't have much fine control on it, it always jump the same height regardless of me tapping very quickly the spacebar or holding the spacebar, I think it would benefit making the jump height be based around for how long you held down the spacebar for more finetune control over your jumps.

Jumps to be kinda unforgiving if you slightly miss, like when you jump towards a platform and the character feet are a few pixels below ground level, it just blocks like a wall and you fall, some edge nudging would be nice.

I also saw that you have jump buffering and coyote time, but the coyote time is kinda OP rn because I can abuse it and still be able to use two jumps.

Pretty good job on the slopes, I know they are the vain of the existence to any game developer, they are still kinda wonky but they behave pretty good and don't make me slide and let me move up and down and jump which is all that counts. So good job on that.

Finally, this is personal suggestion, I think having a wall climb, kinda like Celeste does, could be super cool in the game.

Overall, nice game, nicely put together. If you plan on expanding this game, I can't wait to see what this game can become.

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll definitely look into improving the jump and edge handling. Glad you liked the slopes! A wall climb sounds like a fun idea too. Appreciate you playing! 😊🔥

Really cool game. I would recommend using a different texture for the lava, as the current one doesn't fit the pixel art aesthetics, aswell as some work on the menus, but when it comes to gameplay, the game was pretty good

This game reminds me many of platformer games. I am one of this genre fans. The game does it job good.

Great game! It was very challenging but I get that it was on purpose. The game looks great and feels good to play!

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😃 I definitely wanted to make it challenging, so it's great to hear that came across well. Appreciate the feedback!

Nice cute fox you have made. I liked the gameplay and idea behind it. The lava could have been a little slower since you have a lot of horizontal jumps, but maybe it's just me being bad at it.

Please play and rate my game as well, thanks!

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you liked the fox and the gameplay! 😊 The lava speed was meant to add some tension, but I totally get what you mean. Appreciate the feedback! 🔥🦊

Nice game, the disappearing platforms suprised me a bit haha.

Well done

Nice game, the idea is good and i found it fun. The character's collider could have been slightly smaller than the sprite itself to make it look like it was touching stuff when it was colliding and the lava could have had a pixel shader/texture. Well done on your first jam!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely consider adjusting the collider for a smoother feel. A pixel shader for the lava is a great idea too! Glad you had fun!

The gameplay feels a bit clumsy, I think the jumps are a bit too short for a smooth feeling. Otherwise the controls are tight! The level design is a bit linear, but I see what you were going for.
Also it would be cool if you'd give credit to the creators of the free third party assets. When people only play on the itch site itself and not the submission site they wouldnt know. Always nice to share and link!

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll definitely take a look at improving the jump feel and level design. And you're right about the credits—I’ll make sure to add them so everyone can see. Appreciate your input!

Fun little platforming game starring a cute fox! The character feels nice to control, the levels are well designed and fun to go through. The rising lava and the fox character reminds a lot of Ori and the Blind Forest, wonder if you were inspired by that game.

If I have one criticism it'd be sometimes, the background and the platform blends together, it's a bit confusing on what platform you can jump to and what's just a background image.

Other than that, good job!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm really happy you enjoyed it! 😊 Ori and the Blind Forest is definitely an inspiration, so it's cool that you noticed! I'll take your feedback about the background into account—clarity is super important in platformers. Appreciate the kind words and the suggestion!

The game has potential, but there's many issues:

  • Not enough contrast between BG tiles and FG tiles
  • Janky slope collision (I keep sliding down them...realistic, I guess, but still frustrating)
  • The tiling feels a little out-of-place at some times (especially the floating grass blocks that are somehow perfectly square)
Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll definitely look into improving the contrast and tweaking the slopes. And yeah, those perfectly square grass blocks might need a little love! 😆 Appreciate you playing and sharing your thoughts!

the lava is an insteresting mechanic
