I like the visuals, but the controls were confusing.

I really liked the visuals and all, but I could not get a hang of the controls. Perhaps also because it was late last night... Anyhow please find my video review:

Thanks so much for playing and linking to your play through, I really appreciate it! Aaah, entirely my fault, seems like the second level really stumps most of streamers I’ve seen playing.

The trick I should probably add to the itch page is: the less time you leave between your double jumps, the higher you get.  so a quick spacebar double tap propels you upwards. 👌

I really liked your art, music and sound effects. Loved the character design and platform design, especially, Lane is so adorable. Really loved your poem!!  Also, loved the illumination of the soul and when entering the exit portal.  However, I had some difficulty while adjusting to the acceleration and jump as it was somehow hard to predict sometimes. I think with that fixed it would be an amazing experience. Overall, great art and great idea!! Loved it!! Keep it up!!

Also, I would really appreciate it if you can play and review my game. Thank you!

Developer

Thanks so much for your feedback, really appreciate it!!! Glad you liked Lane, I had a lot of fun refining the various animations and effects.

But maybe I should have spent more time on refining player movement, looks like my taste for really really fast acceleration is not vibing with a lot of players. Thanks again! 👌

I really liked it! The music is so relaxing in contrast to the scope of the game, but I think it makes it even better! Maybe a SFX for when you double jump and/or pick up the little purple gems would be appreciated. Overoll, a fun (and slippery!) experience! Well done!

I would really like if you gave a look to my game, too!

Thanks so much for trying the game out and the nice words, really appreciate it!

Re. The sfx, that sounds like a bug as there are sfx for double jump and picking up gems. Not a big deal, but i’d love to figure out why they wouldn’t pop for you. Which platforms / browser did you play on?

Thanks in advance!

I played on my Lenovo, using Windows, I hope you figure it out!

Cool little game! Really enjoyed your SFX and music a lot. The art style and game mechanics fit the jam's theme very well. Only thing I'd recommend tweaking is the acceleration speed. Either that, or extend your platforms' invisible colliders just a tad. Maybe it was just me, but my brain had some difficulty gauging when to jump. With the speed ramping up, I often clicked jump a millisecond too late and just fell down. Love your interpretation of 'less is more' with the little burdens to pickup. In my opinion, that took this game to a whole new level. Overall, great work!

Would appreciate it if you checked out my game too!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Totally agree with you, the game definitely needs coyote time and input buffering, I'll make sure to not skip those in my next platformer. Thanks again for the kind words!

Very cool game! I really like the art and music, the character looks really good and the overall atmosphere is fantastic. The platforming like many have pointed out can be a bit slippery and frustrating, I really like the idea and maybe with a bit more work, it can be even better!

But still a very nice game! Great work!

Developer

Thanks so much!

I liked it, but the movement was really slippery and was a little frustrating at times. Still, good job!

Developer

Thanks so much for streaming the game, can't believe you spent so long trying it! You rock!

Submitted(+1)

I really love the visuals, but it's a bit hard because of the lack of coyote time, as it would lead to me dropping the ball thing and haveing to run and get it.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! Totally agree on the coyote time, will make sure to include it in my next platformer!

Neat game with a cool mechanic and some lovely visuals

Developer

Thanks so much!

the visuals were beautiful but the mechanics were a bit laggy. cute game

Developer

I'm sorry the mechanics didn't vibe with you. Thanks for the nice words about the art!

The art style was very nice to look at and I enjoyed the multiple jump mechanics when its is quick succession! The controls felt hard to use because of the build-up in speed when running. Overall, this would be a great game to speed run and I really liked the visuals!

Developer

Thanks so much for the nice comments, really appreciate it! Yeah the overall movement needs a bit more work but I wanted to focus on art and sound this time around. Thanks again!

Criticism -

The main mechanic - the less collectibles the "more fast" your speed - didn't come into play too much as most of the puzzles only required you to have one collectible on hand at any time.  Introducing more puzzles earlier surrounding having multiple collectibles at a time would have really helped cement the game as part of the theme.  Another minor nitpick, the player and the background clouds being the same color made it hard to track the player at times.  I would suggest making the player a different color to stand out against the clouds.

Support -

Other than the minor nitpick above, the art style was very pleasing to the eye, and the music fit the casual, calming nature of the game.

Developer

Thanks so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it! Those are some very good points, I also think a puzzle like level design would have worked better with the main mechanic. Thanks again for dropping by!

Nice idea, I like the atmosphere!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for streaming the game, was awesome seeing it played!

I really liked the artwork and music, and the game idea is really fun with its little puzzle like feel though the jumping seems a bit off when it comes to the edge of the platforms. Though still an amazing game I could see myself getting lost for hours with this

Developer

Thanks so much!!! Agreed with the edge of the platforms, I think I need to work a bit more on my 2D platformer character controller. Something like coyote time and jump buffer would be nice to have too. 😉

Submitted(+1)

Very nice. The only thing i have to say is that sometimes you press space a little to early resulting in a double jump, but apart from that it's a very good game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Ah yeah, totally agree. I should look into implementing a jump buffer to avoid that. Thanks for pointing it out! 👌
