Game was fun and it give´s me ninjagaiden vibes or somehthing like that. Controls felt kinda weird sometimes and wall jump was weird but they did their job. At first i tought the optimal stardegy was just spam use laggy dash and kill enemies with projectiles but i like mixing game to final fight where you have to use both weapons becouse of intensity and length of fight. I also streamed it on twitch so you can watch me live reactions afterwards on vod https://www.twitch.tv/tipu_real

Thanks for playing my game! I am extremely happy that you enjoyed it!!

Well done on the game! :)

I managed to get to end (though the last part definitely took a few tries haha). I don't know if this was the case, but from attacking an enemy with the melee attack, it seemed that you would be left vulnerable to get hit (I guess unless you managed to speed away by clicking?). I think some effect when hitting an enemy would have been great. At first I honestly couldn't tell if I was doing anything to them at all. I think the projectile was my favorite as I could just shoot up enemies from a distance while dashing away to build it back up.

Once again, awesome job!

Developer

Thanks a lot! I need to work on the attack. I am learning a lot from the people here. The feedback is simply amazing.

Great submission and great take on the theme! The only thing I could critique on is potentially having a narrative in there (but honestly it's still great without one), and maybe have the art be more consistent, but even then I'm just nitpicking, this game was great, keep up the great work!

Adding sound effect when hitting an enemy would be better, but it was really fun game. I found dashing mechanic so satisfying!

Developer

Thanks a lot for your feedback. I was thinking of adding something like that combined with a health indicator for enemies. Thanks for playing my game!!

Amazing game. Jealous of how polished and well executed this is. I found it hard because I suck, but I have a lot of appreciation for the details put in here.

Developer

Thanks a lot for saying that! There is still a lot I wanna improve in this game but your kind words just make me more excited to work on this.

Amazing entry! Loved the high risk, high reward gameplay fitting the overal theme and overall it's amazingly executed. Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thanks a lot! It's my first game. It just makes me so happy to know that people are enjoying something I made.

The feedback here has been amazing. These 2 weeks have taught me more than the entire last year did.

Nice work! I liked a lot the character art and its animations. The attacks felt I little janky, I couldn’t really hit anyone without loosing almost all the energy. Nonetheless I went for a no attacking run and it was really fun!

Developer

The original plan was to make a game where pacifist route was encouraged but I just felt like a little action would be fun so on 4th day, things changed. I understand the attacks don't give the game-feel I intended but I am working on that. The attacks should feel a little more weighty. Thanks for the feedback!!

Super Meat Gaiden Z

Theme:

The balancing of the attacks was a common use in many of the jams but this was done very well!

Visuals:

This game looked RADDD! The 80/90's stylized city landscape with great parallax effect and brilliant use of particle effects really kept the eyes happy! The visuals had some slight inconsistency issues though since the main character was super details while the environment looked almost like cardboard cutouts, and the enemies were pixelated.  I feel like time was the main issue here though because there was a lot in this game, so I can accept the compromise on some of the lesser important areas of this. The UI looked a little basic and out of place as well. And for the walkable platforms, it would have been nice to have something signify what was traversable. Like neon bloom on the objects, or some type of outline to distinguish the scenery from the platforms. The attack animations, especially the melee was fantastic! Very anime/dragon ball z-esque.

Innovation:

A well structured platformer. The main gimmick for this game was the balancing of your attacks, which honestly was cheesable by just spamming left and right mouse click alternatively. So the balancing act was completely removed. I later changed tactics to try the "intended" way of play and it made the game more fun and challenging. Maybe a cool down on the attacks would help with this.

Sounds/Music:

The game implemented juicy sound effects and a decent track of music. This was just a solid category. Nothing really lacked, but at the same time, nothing was extraordinary here. Still, keeping the volume up while playing this game will not get irritating or repetitive, which is a huge bonus!

Overall:

If you like ninja gaiden from the retro age, super meat boy, and anime like dragon ball z, then you will be pleased with this game. A very strong platformer that has some nice difficulty, appealing visuals, and balanced gameplay (as long as you don't cheese the game). This is a worth while try, and I think this should be further expanded upon. Add a story, make the art styles more consistent, polish the audio up a little more and you could have a heck of a game here!

I streamed it here, starts at 1:08:00.

Oh my god!! Thanks for playing my game!!! It's just amazing. It was my first game. So, Your feedback gave me so much to learn. Thanks a lot for this. I am pretty sure that I have learnt more from this community and people like you in the past 2 weeks than I did in the last year.

You just compared my game to some of the legends! It makes me so happy😭. I wish I make anything like those masterpieces in my life.

Again, Thanks a lot! To see anyone having fun because of something I made is one of the best feelings in the world.

I like the Look and visuals. But i think if found and bug (i dont know if it ment to be like this)

If you got an wall to your right and hold the D key and Jump you can Claim the wall realy fast.

Developer(+1)

Actually, I designed it that way!

I thought it would be better to go "Jump jump jump" rather than climbing some ladder! It looks a little odd but gets the job done.😅

Thanks a lot for taking the time to give me some feedback and playing my game. I hope you had fun!

Yes, a health indicator is really needed. The audio is just me making some weird sound and then editing the pitch. ðŸ˜… It was added at kinda last moment so didn't have much time. I would save more time for audio in the next game jam.  ðŸ˜…

Give me some time. I have downloaded your game. Looks amazing! Would surely play and give a rating!!

Very nice game ! Has some dead cell vibes :D

Developer

Ohhh!!! Thanks a lot for saying this!! I love that game so much! To be even compared with that game is like a human being compared to one of the indie game Gods! :D

One of the things that I enjoyed the most about this game is how smooth the mechanics are.  The tutorial was very clean and I like that I was able to hurt myself to make myself  stronger if need be. Dashing and wall jumping just feels so good and it gives me that classic Mega Man X vibe. Great job at fitting the theme and making a fun experience. I can definitely see this game with a whole array of cool moves and a storyline!

I found a cheating enemy !

I wish I was able to use the space key to jump :x

By the way, I see you're using Unity so let me give you a tip. When you spam the right click button to throw lightening bolts the sound is odd, that's because you ask the Audio Source to play everytime you click. So if you ask it multiple time the sound will be stopped each time you click again. To fix this instead of using "yourAudioSource.Play()" you can use "yourAudioSource.PlayOneShot(yourSound)" :)

Developer

Oh, thanks a lot for that advice! I will update the game once the Jam ends. The decision to not add the spacebar as a jump was was really bad. I would make sure that from next time the controls suit everyone. Also, I didn't have any idea about audioSource.PlayOneShot(sound). I would use that too.

Thanks for playing and rating my game! Cheers!!

Submitted(+1)

I spammed lightning bolts for the regular enemies. Only for the very last boss did I have to use the intended mechanic of switching it up.

Still this was very fun, great job on sound and graphic. Especially liked the simple black buildings. Animations sometimes feel a bit clunky, no biggy for a jam game. I think this game would be great to play on a controller.

Developer

I am still very rough in animation. I am learning it. I hope I get better by the next BTP Game Jam.
