This game is awesome! Very funny descriptions and simple but fun gameplay. The music is great too! Wish I could have rated it during the rating period but great job all the same.

Developer

Thank you! :)

I liked the concept and overall presentation, though I feel there could be a few more graphics effects sprinkled here and there. Also, maybe go for higher-res graphics for llama and sparkles, considering the squares are smoothly rotated anyway <- note: I prefer hi-res graphics to pixel art in general, given similar quality.

Going through one tunnel after another was pretty fun for a while, but the game never seemed to end while not offering any extra variation compared to, say, wave 5 (just going faster and with sharper "turns"). I eventually stopped at wave 17. If you were to expand upon that idea, I recommend adding extra gameplay elements to keep things fresh.

Thanks for the feedback! This game was made within three days, so I hope you understand I had to keep things simple :) I've tried to make the pixel size of the squares the same as the rest, but I didn't like it at all.

Nice entry! I enjoyed the simplicity of it and the ease of restarting. It reminded me of the Mode 7 games for SNES. The only critiques I have are that it was often difficult to tell if you'd cleared a diamond or not (after awhile I figured out the little lama flashed a bit, but it needed more clear feedback) and it was sometimes hard to tell when you were in a square or not especially when they were moving fast away from you. Also a few times when the next wave started I died immediately because the player wasn't centered on the next stream (though that wasn't such a big deal because restarting was so quick and you didn't lose progress).

Graphics were simple but effective and there was definitely something hypnotic about hitting diamond after diamond after diamond, good job!

Thank you for the feedback! :)

The "You bet I do" got me into this entry. Great humour.
Other than that a great game, very neat visuals and overall really polished. Also a lot of fun to play!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you, I'm glad you like it! :)

There once was a llama fairy

in a world that was so scary

he went to space

to return to his race

I hope you enjoyed what I wrote

because your game gets my vote

Quite cute GFX and gameplay :-).

From wave 4 more and more practice can help to get through - in my case.  Nice!

This was really fun! It was really straightforward but also super addictive, and the neon squares were positively hypnotic. The music was a great fit too, really amplified the trance-like feeling of this game. On one hand I want to say it’d be cool to add some more stuff, either with mechanics or with visuals, but on the other I really liked the simplicity of it all and I’m not sure if adding more stuff would ruin that. Reminded me of super hexagon, in a good way (though not nearly as difficult)

Also I’m still seeing floating neon squares like 5 minutes after closing the game so I guess that must count for something

Nicely done!

Developer

Thank you! :)

Awesome, your optical illusions are  really cool. The moving background gives a sense of actual space movement. I love the music and the llama is cute!

At first I didn't know what to do though, but thankfully the restart is very fast, so I figured it out eventually.

Did you make everything yourself!? Those squares are awesome! I like how you show the ones that are coming so you have some preplanning to get there because you fly so slow. Very tactical.

Saving is awesome too!

The only hard part I had was sometimes I would fly to far and the coming square is off-screen.

Developer

Yes, I made everything myself! Thank you for the kind words :)

The off-screen squares are there to make the levels somewhat harder. But if I ever continue with developing this game I'll remove that because it seems to annoy a lot of players.

Submitted (1 edit)

I guess if it spawns in the same area all the time, it's like a shmup with a memorization part. I think it would be okay, if you maybe warn about that in the beginning "some squares might appear off screen" (would be part of a "how to play" section); or else we don't know why we lost. OR, put an indicator as to the direction to look. Otherwise, it's just a guessing game for first time players, and the feeling of "redoing" something feels like a "failure" for people that don't traditionally retry levels and want to do it in one go.

So THIS is what space looks like! Great Depeche Mode sounding 80's synth pop music! I got to wave 13.  I had a good time playing this game! Good Job!

Developer(+1)

I walked downstairs immediately after reading your comment and there suddenly was a Depeche Mode CD on the kitchen counter for no apparent reason. Freaky! *Twilight Zone Tune*

Nice runner.

Good luck in development =)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Although I made this game just for this jam. No plans to further develop it ;) (maybe there will be a post-jam release version later)

Very creative! That was unexpectedly too fun! Very easy to play and has a saving system (still on wave 11 here). I have some suggestions that crossed my mind. Don't need to take them by heart, they are just ideas:

  • How about change the color of the square after the Fairy pass through it (for example, desaturated orange) and play a subtle sound effect?
  • In some waves, I lost track of the next square and didn't know where was the next one. It didn't happen often, but when it did, I ended up losing. How about making a pointer arrow to show the player where the next square is when the player strays away too much from it?
  • Should the player immediately lose when a single square is missed? The game could be a little bit more forgiving, allowing the player to miss at least one or two, before losing.
  • Besides squares, more geometric shapes could be used, to diversify and bring engagement (the tenth wave was hypnotic!). But maybe this doesn't need to be mentioned as I consider it to be an extra polish.
  • (Edit) Also, when a lot of squares are aligned, how about making the colors of the far away squares less relevant, for example, by minimizing their neon effect (or desaturating them)? I don't know, maybe something to hint to the player that the square ahead should have the highest priority.

That's about it. Very promising game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the list!

1. Good idea!

2. The off-screen squares seem to annoy a lot of players, so I will remove them if there will be a post-jam version of the game.

3.  I think there's plenty of room for mistakes already.

4. I tried that but it felt weird... and also like a Playstation™ commercial ;)

5. Maybe I'll try that and see how it turns out someday.

Really fun concept! Hahaha it's cool game to play, nice music and the destruction of the Llama is quite a thing! Congrats!

Developer

Thanks again! ;)

we are 2 people working on this game :) so we both played and commented your game thats why there are 2 comments! nice game!

Cool concept! The 3D effect is not 100% convincing but it's pretty good for a jam. It gets the point across. Keep it up!

Developer(+1)

What 3D? ;)

Fun game! - Reminds me of that old C64 game, Master Of The Lamps! - Enjoy it? - "You Bet I Did!"... :D

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

...but without the tedious 'hit the right colored note on the gong'-BS between the levels ;) Thanks for having fun!

(+1)

Ha ha! - Oh man, you just reminded me! - yeah, that was soooo boring! - kind of like the tedious 'deflect the balls with a shield' intermission in IK+ / International Karate + spoilt the beat-em-up action!  :)

Good luck!

Developer(+1)

Well, it wasn't exactly boring; it was plain IMPOSSIBLE during the last stages, where there's no color anymore and you have to select the right gong by ear!

I kind of liked the IK+ ball-deflecting stages. If you keep up it gets crazier and crazier :)

That was one roller coaster ride! I can still see the rainbow squares even as I type this. What did you do to me?  I enjoyed this game... but at what cost? I'm like moonrisen, I stopped at wave 13. I need a break from the game but I am so going to get to level 20 when my eyes feel better.

Btw, I heard they're setting up a self-help group for people who played my game.

Submitted(+1)

Your game is amazing, it remembers me a bit of super hexagon with the music and movement, I really like it! polish and great visuals! congrats!

Submitted(+1)

This game is glorious! Really did feel like a rollercoaster, especially when it would dive straight down. It got really fun when things started to speed up really fast. I got to wave 13 before I stopped. I was getting a little dizzy but having a lot of fun with it! I'll probably go back and try to get further. I'm curious to see how crazy it gets at wave 20.

Fairy Llama is adorable! I love the pixelated sparkles, I'm a sucker for that sort of thing. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words! :)

Love Fairy Llama and hope to see them again! I felt like I could have done with some indication that I had successfully passed through a ring/square, like a sound or effect because of the perspective etc. and sometimes one of the "rings" would appear off screen, but I understand because we have so little time to make these Jam games. Great fun! Thank you!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The indication sound is a nice idea, although it may drive one crazy :) But it could do with a subtle hint, I agree. I was aware of the 'off-screen rings', but I left them in just to annoy you :D

Submitted(+1)

9/10 would go to space again.

Submitted(+1)

Very nice chill game! I had some trouble getting oriented in the first couple of waves but I think the pacing of the squares around wave 3 is where it starts to feel like you can get into a nice flow state.

Developer

Thank you! Yes, the first two waves are there with a tutorial purpose. To make sure the player would understand you have to go through the cubes.
