How does your game fit the theme?
Our Wave Based Shooter Game Disco Dice fits the theme in a few ways, the most obvious being the aesthetics. However, there are some behind the scenes features that use this theme as well - as on a dice you can roll 1-6 - this is where we got the idea to make all the enemy dice stats to be randomized (Movement Speed / Health / Amount of Score Given When Hit)

The audio is a bit too loud I think. Also, sometimes enemies would spawn on top of you - perhaps you can fix this by adding a check to make sure no enemies spawn near a certain radius around the player.

I enjoyed it though, definitely a decent game!

Cool concept! Would have been nice to see you do more with it, but it was fun to roll around and blast the dice. Just wish the explosion was a little more powerful!

Your player and enemy look cool, but the rest can't be said about the UI or background.
I think they could've fit together more nicely by using a color palette.

The gameplay is not my style and also feels a bit generic. Though the idea of having the cube roll on it's sides instead of walking normally is interesting, that doesn't really affect anything.

I liked the explosion.

Neat idea, the art looks nice too. It would help a lot if you were able to hold down the mouse instead of having to click for each and every shot. -Kaylee

This looked immediately interesting to me as it looked similar to my own game idea. After playing it I can say that it did not disappoint at all. Loved seeing a different take on a similar concept. Very fun game that fits directly into the type of game I like. High replayability factor and exciting visuals. Good job!

Thanks Rolim, I just had a chance to play your entry as well, that level effect is really impressive! I wish I had done something similar!

A cute little top-down shooter! Since you asked for feedback, I would mainly suggest adding a more interactive twist: randomizing the score is a boring piece of output randomness. A more interesting idea would be to base the score on the sides of the dice (as others have suggested!) or perhaps on something like the distance the bullet had to travel (rewarding close combat), etc.
While the concept is basic, the game looks fine and the dice move in an interesting way. Congrats on the entry!

Thanks for the Feedback TonyL, In the future once the Jam ends I plan to add a few more interactive twists - maybe I should have prioritised these earlier on in the jam over visuals, but got stressed with wanting a completed product! I definitely agree score does not effect the way the player decides to play the game, I was thinking basing bullet damage on which side of your dice is currently facing upwards!

Really fun game to play! The attacking feels really nice and I actually like the movement despite it being a little restrictive. I think if anything I would make the enemies follow the same movement style instead of rotating differently to make everything a little more cohesive. The music is also a bop, I love it hehe. Great work overall, I had a lot of fun :)

Developer

thank you! The movement of the enemies was actually stumbled upon by me trying to replicate what I had done for the original player movement and ended up strangely liking it - I think it will come down to experimentation and some polls on itch!

Very cool game with insane visuals. It is easily expandable into all directions. I would definitely  randomize the dice shooting, based on the dice facing side. That way there would be a tradeoff between staying still to keep attacking with the same modifier, or move to avoid enemies. Overall one of the most fun entries i tried :)

super fun game and quite challenging! i would say you could dive a bit more into the theme by altering your stats or giving unique attack at random, but awesome work!

Developer

That was our original plan altering your attack stats based on what dice face is facing upwards - but decided to go for MVP before anything else! Will definitely add that in the future

I believe you can go even further and  add more tactic to the game by matching a player damage with the top edge.

I really enjoy the game though. Nice job!

Dude we litteraly had the exact same idea but the difference in skills is just unbelivable I also wanted to make some kind of weapon change by face number but I was so slow on implementing the game that I didn't have the time Overall great game definitely one of the jam's best !

The movement is interesting and visuals were cool.

Both the movement and the shooting felt really god and even though I was worried they wouldn't mesh well but damn they did, and it made for some great and juicy gameplay!!!

Really good job! :D

Really love the look you went for and the music is matching it nicely. Like the movement and idea to have the enemies move in a 45° angle to you. I would have prefered to hold down the mouse button for auto fire, the button mashing is tedious and messes up your aim. Overall very coherent, nice atmosphere, good job!

Developer

thank you so much! Hold to move and hold to fire were two of the final stretch polishes before I managed to upload the game - but i didn’t manage the shoot! Keep a close eye soon after the jam because I will change it ;)

Great game! love the music and visuals, waiting for you to develop it further

I really like the style you went with. There's one bug i found: you can stack bullets while paused. Otherwise a very well-made game!

I absolutely love this. The EDM music and whole cyberpunk/neon theme is right up my alley. Would def come back to play this again. The movement of the dice is clunky yet enjoyable as it fits the game, so not a negative! Only thing for me is I prefer an automated shooter, so hold and aim instead of clicking so many times a second. Great game overall!

Developer

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Hold to shoot was one of the final targets that I never quite managed to get functioning in the end but as soon as the Jam ends and I can edit it - it will be changed. Il post a full dev notes stating what I plan to do with the game once I get a chance!

Great atmosphere and visuals. I really love the movement of the characters, it was satisfying to control and watch the movement. I think having a few different kinds of enemies could help the game by requiring a bit more strategy from the player. Congrats on what you've accomplished!

Developer(+1)

Aha Thanks for the feedback! - as for the different enemies that is something I had planned to add, mainly dice with [1] on all their sides  being quick , but low health points and damage as well as being rather small - and up to [6] with low movement speed but a lot of health and damage as well as being huge!

Submitted(+1)

A good polished game with a good difficulty curve.

Shooting feels very good and the glowing atmosphere looks great.

If the explosion would be a little bit bigger than it would feel more powerful.

Except for that a very great game !

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the feedback
I also checked out your jam submission I liked the gameplay idea of cheat the dice a lot

Submitted(+1)

I like the aesthetics. I think the explosion could be bigger.
