Cool idea! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :)

Good concept, but I never know what is the good timing to attack...

Great game, I really like games that try to push audio as the main gameplay mechanic! Well polished.

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that a video of one of my playthrough/reviews is up and you're a part of it!
Take a look here:

Well, this was a really neat concept.  Pretty hard to time overall, it's especially frustrating when you get a hit at the same time as an enemy and take damage.  Feels like a ripoff almost.  The last level was just way too hard for me.  I wasn't able to do it.  Maybe a little overtuned although, I'm guessing that was on purpose.  Would have liked to see the ending on this one =D

Great work!

Nice, really cool idea. Found it almost impossible at first but started to get the hang of it once I started thinking of the sound as a real thing coming at me and letting my brain figure out where it was. Still difficult though.

Well i'm impressed !

The idea was simple and i think it's a really cool game with a really nice atmosphere !

The thing that i got some difficulty to hit the enemies, sometime i feel that the attack button got a lack of reactivity.

But overall it was really cool idea that you must develop in the future !

Developer

Thank you so much!

Yeah, the attacks have some cooldown effect between them but I found a bug where the unsheathing sound still plays! Gotta fix that one up since it doesn't help either haha

Really enjoyed this one after I got used to noticing the sounds of approaching enemies (and also how loud / in the centre they have to be before I can attack). The in-game visuals are really nice and, together with the sounds, set the atmosphere very well. I actually felt like a blind swordsman!

Developer

Thank you very much! Yeah, this is just a matter of getting used to the timing of the enemies! And it makes me so glad to know you had that feeling while playing the game. :)

Love the concept, and how the difficulty is increased by adding more layers of sound.

It's difficult to tell the point at which an enemy can be attacked.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you!

If you close your eyes, it becomes easier. I noticed that when testing :) It's a matter of trying many times until you learn the right moment to attack. :)

Love it ! everythings great about i would just like to see it being more dramatic when he blocks/attacks so just more animations not just unsheathing the blade!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much!

Well but the idea is that he attacks so fast you're not able to see it. :) That's why he just takes the blade out and then... Slash! :)

Yeh i know Its from the Hiten Mitsurugi technique haha! maybe then a screenshake or something or blood from the enemies i dunno just my thought about it needing to be more dramatic in a way when u get an enemy! (orrr just as another person here said an unsheathing sound? i suppose that could give us a feel as well :D)

This is a really neat idea and the atmosphere/art sell it well! My main critique would be that is very hard to tell when an enemy is close enough to attack, which left me mashing the attack key whenever I thought it would be right. It may be nice to have a subtle unsheathing sound when an enemy is within striking distance.

Developer

Thank you very much!!

The key is to learn the timing by trying many times. :) It also helps if you close your eyes. :) Having an unsheathing sound  is a nice idea, though! I will check into that, thank you!

Love the intro in Japanese, it really adds some depth to the game. I have hearing problem with one ear so its pretty hard for me to distinguish the stereo sounds, it would be nice if you have an option to bump up the difference so its more recognizable. Is there a pattern to the monsters tho? There was a couple of rounds that I tried to hit only 1 side but still couldnt hit any. Would love to get some tips to see the winning message of the game ;D

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! And that option would be something to consider, yes!

You have to keep trying and see if you can get the timing correctly, try closing your eyes! It helps! :) Also, every intro gives you hints on how to beat every type of enemy!

Oh every intro has a hint on how to beat the enemy? I gotta try it again
