Lovely music! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :)

Interesting game and concept!

Developer

Thank you, glad you liked it!

It would be an awesome game with better visuals and less difficulty

(also I keep confusing the X and the Z keys because of my AZERTY keyboard)

Also the level 2 is way too long.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We hope to add user-configurable controls and selectable difficulty at some point.

Wow, I was really impressed! This is a music game done right. I really liked the mechanics and how the music and the derived gameplay builds upon your performance earlier. The only thing I'd change is the art assets used for the game. Also, the choice of missile seemed really deadly and my immediate response was the dodge it instead of using my briefcase to swat it away. Maybe try using something else here that may encourage players to try deflecting instead!
When trying to play level 2, I couldn't play it, and got some weird errors on my browser.

Developer(+1)

Thanks Daniel, really pleased you liked it! Much of the art was placeholders due to lack of time, though we're really pleased with Brian as a main character. :)

I've seen other people react the same way to the missile, so I think you're right that it's not clear what to do. Maybe we'll make the missile into something you do have to slide under in a future release, and use something less deadly-looking as the speedy airborne enemy.

Sorry level 2 didn't work for you! Though most people seem to have had no problems playing, we have had a couple of other reports of mysterious bugs. Unfortunately I've never been able to replicate them here - one of the hazards of writing a native browser game I guess!

This was a fun easy to pick up game. I agree with the others saying checkpoints and changeable controls would have been nice, but that's about the only criticisms I can come up with.

Developer

Thank you, glad you liked it! We'll try and get those changes into a new release soon.

Hey! I revisited your game! Take a look here:

Woah, that's a really cool runner! The music is fantastic, and works really well with the rhythm mechanic. The second level might be a bit long, especially without checkpoint, but has an incredible progression! I also liked the background. It creates kind of a mesmerizing experience. Only the controls are a bit confusing at first, but with some practice I got used to it.

A really great game. Good job!

Developer

Great, thank you - really glad you liked it! We've heard from a few people that the choice of controls isn't ideal. I would have liked to have user-configurable controls, but we had to cut that for lack of time - hopefully we can add it in a post-jam update!

Submitted(+1)

Ok, welp, I retract my previous comment.  I played it again and it worked just fine.  Not sure what bugged out the first time but this was a  much better experience.  Really loved the concept!  Very fun.  It was sorta frustrating building my own track because it didn't always sync perfectly but hey, that gives it nice replayability!

Great work!

Developer

Fantastic, thanks for giving it another chance. I'm glad it worked for you the second time around, and that you liked the concept!

Nice Game! I really liked the concept, also I thought the main character animation was very cool! I found it a bit frustrating having to start from the beginning each time I died, seeing that the levels were quite long, maybe some sort of checkpoint would be nice. Also some animations for the enemies would be nice. Overall, really enjoyed it :)

Developer(+1)

Great, really glad you liked it! Thanks for the suggestions too. Enemy animations would definitely be an improvement, it's one of the things we had to cut for lack of time. We'll try and add a checkpoint system in there at some point too, as we're planning to do some post-jam updates!

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that a video of one of my playthrough/reviews is up and you're a part of it!
Take a look here:

Seems a bit underdeveloped.  I got hit once and died? Why are there hearts in that case? Maybe a bug? I dunno!  No music to be heard... A little strange.  Good running game concept.  Could be a really really neat rhythm game too if the obstacles lined up with music.

Overall, good job!

Developer

Well, that's very odd. Nobody else has reported any bugs. The hearts are lives, you lose one each time you're hit, and don't die until they're all gone. There's plenty of music to be heard, and the obstacles line up precisely with the music. Let me know what browser and version you're playing on, and I'll see if I can reproduce your problems.

At first i was like... "Oh an unfinished game"... then "i was like oh simple mechanics runner" then after hitting enemies that actually follow a rhythm, then i was like "ohhhhhh that's so cool!"

Great job on an interesting fun cool game! Caught me by surprise and made me smile. Roller coaster of emotions haha! I don't get why you have a businessman, rats and birds though

Developer

Haha, thank you! Brian's trying to get away from work, but his corporate overlords have other ideas, so they've sent the robot rats and pigeons to stop him. We'll be exploring Brian's back story more once Netflix greenlights the series.

Nice looping effect and great concept! Found the timing of the actions a little tricky as each of the approaching obstacles travel at different speeds. Looking forward to the new levels!

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it! Hope we haven't pitched the difficulty too high, but we wanted it to be a challenge. :)

Submitted(+1)

Super cool. Took a few tries to get the hang of it, but once I did it was pretty fun :D

Can't wait to see new levels!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! New levels very soon, promise!

I really liked building up the beats. I wasn't sure on how the health worked but I enjoyed the concept. Maybe you could skip the tutorial part once the player has gone through it once or put in a checkpoint to get them back into it faster.

Developer

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Health goes down whenever you're hit by an enemy or obstacle, but I think I need to make it clearer. And you're right, the tutorial definitely needs separating off, so you don't have to play through it every time! I'll do that when I upload an updated version later.

This is really cool! I love the recording aspect. I'd love to see more of it, but I start struggling once you add in things to jump over. That's on me though. Also the game seems to be a little inconsistent about restarting after a gameover. Regardless, I really hope to see the idea expanded on in the future!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! Check back if you'd like to see more, we'll have more levels up soon. And thanks for the bug report, I'm working on fixing it!

Submitted(+1)

Great work, I really enjoy the idea of recording the player's motions and playing them back in layers!

Developer

Thank you, really glad you enjoyed it!
